Chapter 1387: Chapter 591: Strike Back at Home! Strike Back at Leonais!

Indeed, Duke Hubert had met Angerong before. The duke had seen him once, and with Angerong’s appearance and stature, it was truly hard not to leave a deep impression.

As Angerong expected, upon realizing it was ”an acquaintance’s doing,” His Grace the Duke generously forgave them for ”meddling” and invited them to his castle, the famous Carcassonne Castle in the Old World.

The duke’s offhand attitude made the female Norsca quite dissatisfied. Ingrid exclaimed, ”Damn, if it weren’t for me... I mean us, only their Lady of the Lake knows if these villagers could hold out until these knights arrived!”

”Shut up, Ingrid. If you don’t want to be left outside the castle overnight, keep talking.” Fugen laughed brightly.

The female Barbarian tactfully closed her mouth, partly out of respect for the strong, and partly because she somewhat knew her strength might allow her to strut before the Beastmen, but against hundreds of knights, it was truly insignificant.

However, Barbarians are good in this aspect, as they would generally unconditionally obey orders when facing a powerful figure like Fugen.

If they encountered those particularly skilled in debate, like Estalians and Imperial Nuer citizens, it would be troublesome. These people are famous among mortals as ”arguers.” They prefer to shout slogans like ”freedom of speech, democracy, equality,” and are known for refusing to lose and relentlessly arguing to the end, often merely opposing for opposition’s sake.

Some die-hard elements would emphasize how unsightly the enemy’s punching stance was, even when punched down onto the ground, which indeed can be frustrating.

Led by Duke Hubert, Fugen led over five hundred troops marching towards Carcassonne Castle.

As the sun tilted westward, the assembled army finally approached Carcassonne Castle.

As one of Brittania’s most important strategic outposts in the south, Carcassonne Castle is not only historically significant but also features many stories about Holy Grail Knights and war in the ancient castle’s history. From its appearance, it is a typical High Elf-style castle, with cylindrical bodies and conical tower roofs, which are particularly striking. ℴ

Inside the castle, Fugen toured Carcassonne with keen interest. The most magnificent architectural features here are the inner and outer walls and towers defending the castle. It has gigantic fortifications surrounding the castle, compact houses and streets, and a perfect Holy Grail Cathedral. Streets inside the castle crisscrossed, and houses stood dense side by side. Entering through the arched gate and crossing the moat via a wooden drawbridge into the castle, the stone roads undulated, twisting and turning, only four or five meters wide. Low stone houses lined the streets, with a quaint style, only the numerous patrolling troops’ stern atmosphere disrupted this beauty.

Duke Hubeard of Kakasong, with a cold expression, spoke a few words to his attendant, who immediately came to Fugen and the others. ”Legion Commander of the Ash Legion, our duke has said that Kakasong Duchy is not a wealthy duchy. We thank you for your assistance during the Beastman invasion, but we have nothing to reward you with. We can only offer food and lodging, ensuring there’s enough lamb for your enjoyment, but nothing else.”

”It doesn’t matter, that’s enough.” Fugen was indifferent to this, as he said, fighting evil was a duty and not something worth boasting about, and having lamb for two meals was nice.

”The duke also invites you to join him for dinner tonight in the Inner Castle.” The attendant continued, ”The duke would like to inquire about the situation in Tiriel.”

”Alright.”

......Dividing line for the dinner......

The time comes to August.

Old World, Brittania, Southern Leonais, Old Musillon Dukedom.

A small army is advancing across the plain.

This army is led by the Old Guard, dispatched by Laine, responsible for supporting the Musillon Nobles in Southern Leonais, tasked with pacifying the local peasant rebellion.

The problem in Leonais is longstanding. Since the bloody battle with Egil the Red-Eyed, the duchy’s situation has steadily worsened. Due to food shortages, knights could not solve the peasants’ hunger issues. They could defeat the peasant rebel army, but pacifying peasants and restoring production was beyond them.

What’s more fatal is that the Musillon Nobles didn’t have enough troops. Despite refusing any orders from Duke Aldred of Leonais after Egil’s invasion, their military loss was significant, which was undeniable. As the rebellion gradually spread across the domain, the nobles were left with just a few castles and a few guarded manors. The nobles were extremely anxious, but powerless. Knights could certainly crush the rebel peasants in the wilds, but that couldn’t fundamentally resolve the rebellion issue.

It’s well-known that bandit troubles roam and avoid battle. Masters of the knights cannot pursue long distances because even if they catch up, the bandit troubles would have already retreated into mountain strongholds and forts for a dead defense, making strong attacks difficult and unrewarding. Moreover, masters of the knights are also short on food.

But now, support from Duke Laine has arrived, led by a regiment of about four hundred Old Guard, accompanying two Peasant Infantry Corps and a Dwarf Artillery unit to Southern Leonais, supporting these Musillon Nobles.
