Chapter 986: Chapter 431: The Might of Light Magic Riding

As Veronica infused magic power, rings of white magical light were injected into the optical instruments, and the Light Magic Riding was fully activated under the efforts of the witch apprentices.

About two hundred meters away stood a target, over two meters tall, a stuffed form decorated with straw and rags, shaped like a knight.

With the busy activity and energy charging by the wizards, the eight copper mirrors lit up one after another, and enormous energy was continuously compressed and focused through these mirrors. The flashing light orb gradually transformed into a white beam emitting high heat, the Soul Flame.

”Whoosh!” In front of everyone, the beam was launched from the Light Magic Riding, drawing a long trail over a meter long under the blazing sun, hitting the target amidst the gaze of all.

”Bang!” Amidst the swirling dust, Laine and others watched the target area with anticipative eyes, gradually approaching.

The target composed of straw and rags was burnt halfway through, directly penetrated.

”The effect is good.” Laine and others nodded in approval, and Laine shouted toward Veronica: ”Is this the maximum range?”

”No, the maximum effective range is three hundred to four hundred meters. Beyond that, the accuracy of the beam is insufficient, and the power decreases,” Veronica answered from atop the Light Magic Riding: ”Four hundred meters is already the maximum range. For a good attack effect, two hundred to three hundred meters is the optimal range.”

”Alright, let’s try again!” Laine gestured for the experiment to continue.

The soldiers carried several new targets forward, positioning this time at about three hundred meters, with a scale armor draped over the target.

The Light Magic Riding activated again, and the laser penetrated the target, leaving only a charred, large gap; the entire scale armor was melted by the laser formed by the Soul Flame.

”This power is decent, but the damage area is too small, difficult to cope with numerous and varied enemies.” Belgar observed the power of the Light Magic Riding, and the King of Eight Peaks nodded as though it made sense: ”But our enemies aren’t made of straw and rags; this power is far from enough.”

”Then let’s continue,” Laine indicated for soldiers to bring in new targets.

”Yes, my Count.” Several soldiers withdrew and returned with a smaller target.

This target no longer resembled horseback riding, only with a simple human height, clad in chain armor and chest armor, wearing a helmet, a standard knight’s attire. Brittania knights don’t always afford plate armor; most wear a combination of chain armor, chest armor, and arm guards paired with a cavalry lance, sword, and shield.

”The Light Magic Riding is not designed for combating large groups of enemies; it’s more for sniping enemy leaders and giant beast units.” Laine signaled everyone to step back.

The Light Magic Riding activated again, a mighty beam released from the optical instruments on the vehicle, slicing through the hot summer air.

”Boom!”

Everyone crowded around to observe.

This time, the beam didn’t melt the target in half, but the Soul Flame penetrated the chest armor and the chain armor underneath, burning through the rags and straw, leaving behind a pool of steaming molten iron.

Breaking through perfectly, everyone immediately realized that this war machine held immense power, capable of piercing a whole set of standard knight equipment, suggesting it could almost penetrate most powerful foes in the entire Old World!

Olivier even showed some regret on his face, as this was a complete set of standard knight half-body gear used as experimental material, and burned through.

”Well, such a powerful war machine can be used.” Belgar, now less critical, raised a new concern: ”Not bad, Lord Laine, the weapon’s power is sufficient, but how is the ammunition supply? How many such beams can your female courtier launch, and how to deal with agile giants? The target of the Light Magic Riding is large; what if the opponent focuses fire on it? How long can it hold out?”

Laine thought that Belgar was indeed an outstanding warrior and besieger, raising sharp questions that hit the core issues. If the Light Magic Riding were just a large mobile turret, it would be best mounted on the Wizard Tower for defense use, as many problems could arise in real battle. Its target is large, making it prone to enemy encirclement, and if it couldn’t fire many times, it would be less useful than the Dwarfs’ cannon and organ cannon.

Dwarfs don’t use magic, yet they aren’t entirely ignorant of it, as runes are their form of employing the Magic Wind.

Unable to answer these questions, Laine, ultimately a warrior, gestured for Veronica on Light Magic Riding to come down and explain to everyone after part of the experiment was completed.

After continuously releasing the Soul Flame, Veronica stepped boldly down from the war chariot, the Jialan Witch full of pride, glancing at the female sorcerer Teresa, who showed a displeased face, then explained to Belgar one by one.

”The Light Magic Riding can stably overload up to twelve times in a short period. If exceeding twelve times, the magic array and optical instruments will automatically enter self-protection mode and lose functionality,” Veronica explained: ”Twelve times of high-powered Soul Flame beams are sufficient for the battlefield.”

”Next is defense; the vehicle body of the Light Magic Riding is engraved with defensive arrays to withstand most long-range weapon attacks, and with four warhorses pulling the carriage simultaneously, this war machine can move at relatively high speed, avoiding encirclement or siege.”
