Chapter 969: Chapter 422: Mogiana’s Dinner (Part 3)

”It really is delicious, soft and palatable, with a balanced flavor.” Laine nodded repeatedly, the Count eating two pastries.

Next, Mogiana brought over charcoal-grilled lamb chops and fried fish and potato strips. Laine heard from Mogiana that recently the Lake God Witch has been researching various cuisines from the northern coast of Brittania.

Unlike the wealthy and fertile southern Brittania, the northern coast has been plundered by Northern Barbarians and Dark Elf Pirates for years, and therefore its resources are scarce. Local food is quite simple, especially with very simple craftsmanship that prioritizes quick preparation and immediate consumption. Locals enjoy pies, tarts, fried potatoes, roasted meats, and fish jelly – these simple foods.

In Brittania’s south, the delicate taste of dishes, the deliciousness of sauces, the magnificent arrangement of tableware can be considered an art form. For example, in the Winford Duchy and Boldro Duchy, there is a diverse array of dishes with unique cooking methods.

The two used knives and forks to cut the lamb chops, as the succulent fat and sinews emitted a pleasant aroma under the silver utensils. Laine gently picked up a slice of lamb chop. Seeing Mogiana also picked up the knife and fork, he decided to start a topic: ”Speaking of Duke Theodoric committing such a great scandal, I thought there wouldn’t be too many knights supporting him in his Duchy, but news says there are actually hundreds who wish to follow him.”

”Theodoric de Borelion, a direct descendant of the first Duke of Borelion, Balduin, as you know, Theodoric is a drunkard and a lecher.” Mogiana answered Laine’s question, her expression somewhat conflicted: ”But what you might not know is that Duke Theodoric is also a very formidable warrior.”

”I know this.” Laine nodded, chewing the lamb chop in his mouth. He hadn’t personally witnessed Duke Theodoric’s martial valor, though there were various messages throughout the Kingdom. This Duke always liked to grip a Lake Fairy-blessed War Axe with both hands, mowing down foes. He neither used cavalry lance nor sword and shield. Many strong adversaries have met their doom under his great axe. In terms of combat skills and brute strength, he ranks among the top warriors in Brittania.

Many years ago, at the knight tournament, the final competitors were Francois and Theodoric. It’s said that Theodoric still harbors resentment over losing to Francois, which further proves his prowess.

It’s a pity, though, that this person is a lecher, especially fond of various illicit affairs, caught with many noble ladies is certainly no accident.

”Theodoric portrays like two different people. On the battlefield, he’s proud and brave, every fight he’s sure to personally lead the charge, returning wounded each time. He treats his soldiers well, often dining together with knights and even squires, sharing joys and sorrows, making many Borelion knights regard him as an idol and role model. Yet in life, Theodoric is a poetry lover and the biggest patron of minstrels; he himself loves composing poetry, especially praising forbidden romances.” Mogiana continued: ”This causes his reputation to be polarizing in the Duchy; many like him, and many loathe him. When many opponents call for him to leave the Duchy, Theodoric never lacks supporters.”

”Hmm.” Laine knew that a person cannot be simply seen as good or bad; people are always complex.

The Lake God Witch’s dinner was very harmonious. Mogiana watched Laine eat the meal she prepared and felt quite content. After serving several dishes, Mogiana brought out an iron plate from the oven: ”This is the last dish, Laine, it’s Brittania’s northernmost famous dish.”

Laine carefully observed the iron plate, the food inside looked like a baked flatbread topped with bacon, parsley, and minced onion.

That’s not the focus.

The focus is, within the baked flatbread protruded eight fried sardine heads, these ”cute” faces all looked upward, mouths half-open, gazing at the ceiling.

”This dish is called ’Stargazing’, try it, Laine.”
