Stellar Slacker: I Thought This Was an Idle Game!

By 12:30 AM, an unprecedented silence settled over the floating archipelago of the Radiant Dawn Academy.

This was far beyond the ordinary quiet of a sleeping mountain.

This was the breathless, trembling hush of an entire civilization brought to its knees by an act of cosmic godhood.

Across all seven spires, thirty thousand disciples, three hundred senior elders, twelve visiting grandmasters, and twenty imperial sky-captains remained frozen on open balconies, stone terraces, and marble bridges.

Zero flying swords dared take to the sky.

Zero spirit beasts were permitted to utter a sound.

Down at the academy stables, five hundred war-horses and three dozen flying drakes had their muzzles bound in padded velvet wraps to prevent even a single whinny from drifting toward the clouds.

At the base of the wooden suspension bridge leading to Solitude Spire, Arch-Inquisitor Valen stood guard in person.

He wore his formal black inquisitor robes, but his brass sword was sheathed. His forty elite enforcement officers formed an unbroken cordon along the mountain gorge, holding heavy silencing talismans in both hands.

”Hear my absolute command,” Valen whispered, his voice barely carrying three paces in the night air. ”The sound threshold for this entire quadrant is capped at eight decibels. If a disciple sneezes, gag them. If a bird lands on this bridge, catch it with bare hands. Anyone who disturbs the Recluse’s rest will be thrown into the southern abyss without a trial.”

The forty enforcement officers bowed their heads in grim, terrified understanding.

From the dark mountain path behind them, Elder Shen of the Medicine Pavilion hurried forward.

The elderly physician was clutching an antique jade diagnostic mirror with trembling hands. His silver hair was wild, and his eyes were wide with shock.

”Arch-Inquisitor,” Shen whispered frantically, his voice shaking with awe. ”The reports from the infirmaries... they defy all natural law!”

Valen turned his head slightly, keeping his voice below a whisper. ”Speak quietly, Shen. What happened?”

”Every chronic injury across the seven spires vanished during those ten minutes,” Shen murmured, pointing a trembling finger toward the heavens. ”Disciples who suffered shattered meridians twenty years ago woke up with their spiritual pathways completely restored. The herb gardens on the Fourth Spire... the ten-thousand-year frost ginseng didn’t wither from the heat. It absorbed the golden light and evolved into Nine-Sun Celestial Roots!”

Valen stared at the medicine elder in stunned silence.

”He does not merely hold the power of destruction,” Valen whispered, his throat dry as desert sand. ”His casual breathing purifies the land. His slumbering pulse radiates life itself. And two months ago, we sent him a written demand for three silver coins in unpaid library late fees.”

Shen went pale as a sheet. ”Tell me you burned that record.”

”I ate the paper twenty minutes ago,” Valen said flatly. ”Starting at sunrise, the First Spire’s finest bare-footed couriers will deliver forty baskets of fresh melon and glazed roast pork to his doorstep every morning. If he wants gold, we give him gold. If he wants silence, we will execute anyone who breathes too loud within five miles.”

Fifty paces beyond the suspension bridge, Solitude Spire stood peaceful and untroubled under the cold starlight.

On the covered cedar porch, Lyra Ashford remained kneeling beside the low pine tea table.

She had placed her ancestral silver rapier flat across her lap. Her long silver hair fell loose over her shoulders, and her violet eyes watched the quiet night with calm reverence.

Her heart had never known such profound, crystalline serenity.

During those ten minutes of golden midnight sun, the primordial solar radiation venting from the cottage had washed over her body. The lingering cold-poison that had plagued her meridians since childhood was completely gone, vaporized by the pure Yang photons.

Her spiritual veins now pulsed with a soft, warm amber glow. Her sword intent had shed its icy sharpness, transformed into a radiant, sun-forged blade that could melt iron with a single glance.

She looked toward the closed bedroom door with tear-filled eyes.

Three months ago, she had arrived at Solitude Spire as a desperate fugitive.

She had fled the Ashford Clan’s bloody palace coup with assassins on her heels, clutching a stolen sky-compass, fully expecting to die in the forgotten ruins of the Seventh Spire.

Instead, she had found Senior Brother Felix.

She had found a young man wearing frayed straw slippers, lounging in a floating chair, eating salted radish porridge, and complaining bitterly about mobile game drop rates.

Back then, she had thought him an eccentric mortal squatter.

Then she thought him an eccentric hidden hermit.

Now, she understood the terrifying, blinding reality:

Felix Vance was the supreme living pillar of the universe.

He didn’t cultivate like ordinary mortals. He didn’t lock himself in freezing caves for centuries, starving himself and coughing up blood over ancient scrolls.

He practiced the True Dao of Inaction. The Dao of Idle Progression.

While the fools of the empire fight and bleed for scraps of spirit stone, Lyra thought, her chest tightening with overwhelming reverence, Senior Brother lies flat upon his back and allows the universe to cultivate itself for him! His laziness is not sloth. His laziness is absolute, effortless mastery over all existence!

【Target: Lyra Ashford】 【Comprehension: Dao of Idle Progression (Transcendental)】 【Inspector Note: Has thoroughly brainwashed herself into believing afternoon naps are the supreme cosmic art. Will guard your porch against all mortal life forms with religious fury.】

Lyra bowed her head until her forehead brushed the cool cedar planks.

”Rest well, Senior Brother,” Lyra whispered into the quiet night. ”This disciple will guard your sacred threshold against all mortal filth. The heavens may fall, the stars may burn, but your slumber shall remain undisturbed.”

Down in the clover yard, the Thunder Gryphon let out a long, rumbling breath in its sleep.

The colossal golden beast was stretched out like a contented hound, its head resting comfortably on a patch of crushed dandelion greens. Its feathers caught the starlight, shimmering with the rich, lustrous glow of freshly minted coins.

Near the stone well, the Sun-Lotus Cabbage had fully opened its twelve emerald petals.

The cabbage’s central flower pulsed with a steady, soothing yellow heartbeat, pumping honey-sweet warmth through the mountain breeze. Thanks to that leafy vegetable, the ambient temperature across the entire peak stayed locked at exactly sixty-nine degrees.

Inside the quiet cottage kitchen, the short leg of the pine table rested firmly upon Grandmaster Vivienne’s Sovereign Heart Seal. Underneath the jade square, the secret passkey the ancient jade seal rested against the wood.

The ancient Primordial Relic hummed with a quiet purple vibration, anchoring the floorboards against the immense gravitational mass resting in the adjoining bedroom. On top of the table, the porcelain jar of pickled plums sat completely undisturbed.

And in the corner of the dark bedroom, perched on the wooden windowsill, Barnaby the clockwork owl stood on silent watch.

The plump brass automaton had entered ultra-low-power mode.

His amber crystal lenses flickered with a faint, hypnotic amber pulse, synchronized perfectly to the sixty-hertz electromagnetic rhythm humming from the bed. The hand-carved oak bottle cork remained wedged between his brass mandibles, and the copper penny gleamed like a polished star in the darkness.

Barnaby’s internal balance wheel gave a faint, rhythmic tick... tick... tick...

It sounded like the slow ticking of an ancient grandfather clock, weaving a gentle acoustic barrier around the bedroom that swallowed every stray sound from the outside world.

In the center of the low cedar bed, Felix Vance stirred softly beneath his blankets.

It was 12:45 AM.

He shifted his weight, rolling from his stomach onto his right side. He pulled his knees up slightly, letting out a long, drowsy breath that ruffled the edge of his celestial feather pillow.

Inside his dantian, the miracle of modern physics burned with flawless, beautiful stability.

The miniature Sol-Class star was no larger than a child’s glass marble, yet it contained the compressed mass of an entire planetary system.

At its blistering core, fifteen million Kelvin of thermonuclear heat fused hydrogen nuclei into helium in continuous, perfect hydrostatic equilibrium. The outward pressure of the nuclear furnace balanced the inward crush of gravity down to the subatomic decimal point.

To the high cultivators of Aethelgard, this was the Primordial Golden Crow of Creation. A terrifying, realm-destroying god-flame that could incinerate mountain ranges and vaporize oceans.

Yet to Felix Vance, protected by the AetherDeck’s automated background dampers, it was something infinitely more precious:

It was the most luxurious, comfortable internal heating pad the universe had ever conceived.

The warmth radiating from his chest was dry, clean, and utterly sublime.

It soaked deep into his ribs, warmed his stomach, relaxed the tightness in his lower back, and spread all the way to the soles of his bare feet. It felt like being submerged in a natural volcanic hot spring on a crisp winter evening.

Every single nerve ending in his body sighed with relief.

Felix reached a sleepy hand out from under the heavy cotton quilt.

His fingers tapped the nightstand, locating the smooth obsidian surface of the AetherDeck. He lifted the slate to eye level, squinting through heavy eyelids as the screen woke up with a soft, dimmed golden glow.

A massive, high-priority milestone window filled the display:

Goodnight, Felix Vance. Let the universe burn around you.

Felix stared at the numbers through half-closed eyes.

”Fifteen million units per minute,” Felix murmured, a lazy smile tugging at the corner of his lips. ”Now that’s what I call proper idle scaling. No more manual clicking. No more farming low-level trash mobs.”

He glanced at the milestone reward line.

One free Heavenly Vault Gacha Ticket.

A tiny icon shaped like a golden summoning scroll was blinking in his inventory tray.

Felix hovered his thumb over the ticket for half a second, then shook his head.

”No way am I pulling gacha at one in the morning,” Felix mumbled, rubbing his gritty eyelids. ”Late-night summon rates are always cursed by RNGesus. You pull at one AM, you get ten duplicate two-star wooden swords. I’ll roll it tomorrow after breakfast.”

He scrolled down to the bottom of the prompt.

The radiator mod was running at optimal efficiency. The room temperature was locked at sixty-eight degrees, while his personal microclimate under the quilt was a toasty seventy-four.

”Zero thermal leak,” Felix whispered, his voice slurring with delicious, heavy fatigue. ”Clean background execution. Devs actually optimized the performance for once.”

He tapped the power button on the side of the brass casing.

The screen dimmed to black.

Felix set the AetherDeck gently face-down on the wooden nightstand, right beside his empty water glass.

He took hold of the heavy cotton quilt, pulling the thick layers all the way up to his chin. He tucked the fabric snugly around his shoulders, trapping the soothing solar warmth inside the mattress.

He gave his celestial feather pillow one final, affectionate punch to settle his head into the center.

Deep in his chest, the miniature star gave a gentle, rhythmic thrum.

A wave of golden heat washed over his spine, dissolving the last lingering shred of wakefulness in his mind.

Felix buried his face into the soft linen pillow, letting out a long, happy sigh that fogged the cool bedroom air.

”Man...” Felix whispered into the dark room. ”This new heating mod is top-tier.”

He closed his eyes.

Within three seconds, his breathing slowed into the deep, rhythmic cadence of unbroken slumber.

Outside the cottage, thirty thousand cultivators remained on their knees under the starry sky, holding their breath in terrified, religious reverence.

The three greatest empires on the continent mobilized their armies, diviners wept over their shattered astrolabes, and the Grand Inquisitor guarded the mountain bridge like a faithful watchdog.

And in the center of it all, wrapped in a faded cotton quilt with his toes comfortably warm, the Supreme Solar Emperor of the heavens slept soundly until noon.
