Stellar Slacker: I Thought This Was an Idle Game!

The afternoon sun rested over Solitude Spire like a warm golden blanket.

Felix Vance lay stretched out in his Zero-Gravity Ergonomic Recliner, hovering an inch above the porch floorboards. The micro-gravitational levitation coils hummed softly, cradling his spine at a cozy one-hundred-and-twenty-degree angle.

A frayed straw hat covered his eyes, shielding him from the glare.

His bare feet rested casually upon the polished cedar railing.

Down in the overgrown front yard, the Thunder Gryphon was sprawled on its side in the clover. The massive beast, gifted by the humbled Imperial Ministry, looked less like an apex aerial predator and more like an overgrown golden retriever.

It let out a rumbling snore, paws twitching as it chased imaginary rabbits in its sleep.

Near the stone well, the Sun-Lotus Cabbage stood in full, radiant bloom.

Its layered emerald leaves glowed with a soothing yellow luminescence, pumping sweet honey-scented warmth across the yard. Thanks to that leafy vegetable, Solitude Spire maintained an eternal spring climate of sixty-nine degrees.

Inside the quiet kitchen, the short front leg of the pine table rested firmly atop Grandmaster Vivienne’s Sovereign Heart Seal.

The multi-million-year-old primordial relic crackled with faint purple static beneath a porcelain jar of pickled plums. Carved on the underside of the jade square were tiny ancient runes reading the ancient jade seal. The kitchen table remained rock-steady, without any wobble.

Perched on the cedar railing beside Felix sat Barnaby the clockwork owl.

The brass automaton’s feathers caught the sunlight, gleaming alongside the sharpened copper tip fastened to his beak. Wedged firmly between his brass mandibles was the hand-carved oak bottle cork, held firmly alongside a shiny copper penny.

Barnaby’s internal cogs spun in furious, muffled agitation.

Whir-clack-whir.

The owl glared through amber crystal lenses at Felix’s bare toes, dying to deliver a thunderous lecture on morning diligence. Yet all that escaped the oak cork was a faint hiss of steam.

Felix reached out with one lazy finger and nudged Barnaby’s brass belly.

”At ease, Barnaby,” Felix murmured from beneath the straw hat. ”Quiet shift today. You’re doing great.”

Barnaby’s optical shutters clicked in quiet fury, but he could do nothing except puff his mechanical chest.

Inside Felix’s chest, his internal cultivation purred with steady rhythm.

The 2.0-Earth-Mass terrestrial core rotated slowly within his dantian, locked into the firmament like a celestial anvil. Two full planetary masses of compressed gravity radiated through his bloodstream, keeping his spiritual foundation heavier than a mountain range.

Yet to Felix, it merely felt like a cozy weighted blanket on a chilly morning.

The wooden suspension bridge leading to the spire suddenly groaned.

Light, disciplined footsteps echoed across the planks.

Lyra Ashford emerged from the mountain mist, carrying a polished lacquer tray in both hands. Her long silver hair was tied in a neat ribbon, and her violet eyes shone with quiet discipline. She wore pristine white-and-silver disciple robes, her posture straight as an imperial lance.

On the tray sat a pot of jasmine mist tea, a dish of sliced cloud-melons, and three warm steamed buns stuffed with sweet red bean paste. Beside the teapot lay a heavy scroll wrapped in crimson imperial silk.

Lyra reached the porch, stepping across the cedar threshold without a sound.

She knelt gracefully beside the low pine side table, lowering the tray with solemn reverence.

”Senior Brother,” Lyra whispered softly, bowing until her forehead nearly brushed the tray. ”Your afternoon refreshment has arrived. The red bean buns were prepared by the Imperial Pastry Guild.”

Felix tilted his straw hat up by half an inch. One sleepy brown eye peered out from beneath the brim.

”Buns still warm?”

”Steamed less than ten minutes ago, Senior Brother,” Lyra answered immediately. ”I carried the tray using the Feather-Light Wind Stride.”

”Good work, Lyra. Five stars.”

Felix reached over, snagged a warm bun, and took a large bite.

The sweet, earthy red bean paste burst across his tongue, perfectly balanced by the pillowy dough. He chewed slowly, letting out a satisfied hum that resonated with the purring core in his chest.

Lyra’s breath caught in her throat.

The Five-Star Astral Benediction! she thought, her pulse hammering with awe. Senior Brother praises my trivial service with the words of heaven!

Felix swallowed the bite and pointed his half-eaten bun at the crimson scroll.

”What’s the fancy rolled-up paper?” Felix asked. ”Tax audit?”

Lyra picked up the crimson scroll with both hands, holding it aloft like a holy decree.

”It is an imperial summons, Senior Brother,” Lyra whispered. ”This morning at sunrise, the Imperial Court and the Grand Elder Council enacted the Imperial Exploration Decree!”

Felix took another bite of his bun. ”Exploration Decree? Sounds like extra work.”

”Three hundred miles beneath the northern mountains, the ancient seals have broken!” Lyra declared, her eyes ablaze with fervor. ”The Abyssal Crypt of the First Emperor has opened!”

【Target: Imperial Exploration Decree】 【Grade: Divine Sovereign Mandate】 【Status: Active Mobilization】 【Inspector Note: A high-level parchment declaring an imperial expedition into a subterranean nightmare. Great for wrapping leftovers, terrible for life expectancy.】

Felix glanced at the floating blue brackets, then back at his pastry.

”A crypt,” Felix deadpanned. ”So... an old basement full of dusty skeletons.”

Lyra shook her head vigorously.

”Far more terrifying, Senior Brother! The First Emperor was a Sovereign-Realm conqueror! His burial catacombs span one hundred floors, guarded by fiends and obsidian war-constructs!”

She unfurled the scroll slightly, revealing lines of bold golden calligraphy.

”Grand Elder Moros has taken command of the vanguard,” Lyra continued. ”Four hundred elite spellblades, sixty alchemists, and twelve sky-galleons have entered the chasm. They seek the Primordial Void Core—a relic said to command the gravity of the heavens!”

Felix chewed thoughtfully.

”Four hundred guys marching into a damp basement,” Felix muttered. ”Sounds loud. Are they going to bang drums near my mountain?”

”Never, Senior Brother!” Lyra said hastily, bowing low. ”The entrance is two hundred miles away, sealed beneath sound-dampening wards. The Council knows better than to disturb your meditation.”

She looked at him with profound admiration.

Senior Brother already knew! Lyra realized with chilling clarity. The Void Core commands gravity... yet Senior Brother’s chest holds two complete planetary masses! He is testing their mortal ambition!

Felix took a sip of iced jasmine tea.

”As long as they keep it down,” Felix said. ”If an army starts blowing trumpets during my nap, I’m filing a noise complaint.”

”I shall enforce your will, Senior Brother,” Lyra vowed.

Felix set his cup down.

He leaned his head back, preparing to pull the straw hat back over his eyes.

Just as his eyelids fluttered shut, his sleeve vibrated.

BZZZZ.

A sharp, synthetic retro chime echoed from his pocket.

Felix sighed, pulling his brass-cased AetherDeck into the sunlight.

”What now?” he grumbled. ”Daily login bonus?”

He clicked the central thumb-groove.

The obsidian screen flared to life with an 8-bit fanfare:

Felix stared at the screen.

His eyes slowly widened beneath his messy brown bangs.

”A thousand crystals?” Felix whispered. ”One thousand pure gacha pulls? Just for clearing ten floors of trash mobs?”

In Stellar Idle, one single gacha pull cost one hundred crystals. Ten pulls cost a thousand. A thousand crystals meant a full ten-pull on the upcoming Heavenly Artifact banner—completely free.

”The developers actually listened,” Felix said, genuinely impressed. ”Usually these seasonal updates give you garbage like five healing potions. A thousand crystals is a player-friendly patch.”

Lyra watched Felix’s expression shift from sleepy indifference to razor-sharp focus.

Her breath hitched in her throat.

Look at his eyes! Lyra thought, her heart pounding. The decree of mortal emperors left him unimpressed. But gazing into that divine slate, his celestial consciousness has ignited!

She watched the green runes reflect in Felix’s dark pupils.

He spoke of ’one thousand crystals’... Lyra shuddered. In ancient scriptures, ’Crystals’ refer to condensed astral cores harvested from dying galaxies! Senior Brother intends to harvest one thousand stellar fragments!

Felix stretched his arms, hearing his spine pop.

He didn’t bother getting out of the Zero-Gravity Recliner. Why stand up when you can play an idle roguelike lying flat on your back?

He settled his elbows comfortably onto the armrests, balancing the AetherDeck between both hands.

”Let’s see what this new Catacomb Crawler update is all about,” Felix said, hovering his thumb over the glass. ”If it’s just reskinned bats and skeletons, I’m setting combat speed to four times and taking a nap.”

Barnaby let out an inquisitive brass click from the railing.

The owl tilted its head, peering around its oak cork to inspect the glowing screen.

Down in the yard, the Thunder Gryphon rolled over onto its stomach, resting its giant eagle beak on its front paws. Its golden eyes blinked lazily at the porch, sensing the subtle shift in atmospheric pressure.

Felix tapped the glowing [START EVENT DUNGEON] button.

PING!

A crisp retro chime echoed through the mountain air.

On the obsidian display, an 8-bit knight in silver armor materialized at the top of a dark stone staircase descending into an abyss. Below the knight, pixelated torches flickered against purple brick walls, and tiny red dot markers indicated enemy clusters lurking in the dark.

”Graphics are pretty decent for a retro mini-game,” Felix murmured, wiggling the virtual D-pad. ”Nice smooth sixty frames per second.”

Beside him, Lyra felt the ambient spiritual pressure of the mountain drop by ten degrees in a single second.

The air around Felix became terrifyingly still. The space surrounding his chair rippled like clear water, radiating an invisible, micro-gravitational pulse that linked his casual finger movements to the core of the planet.

He has initiated the rite! Lyra gasped internally, pressing her palms against the floorboards. With a single touch of his fingertip, Senior Brother has synchronized his divine soul with the underworld abyss!

Felix took another small bite of his red bean bun, holding the pastry in his left hand while his right thumb flicked the virtual D-pad forward.

On the screen, the tiny 8-bit knight trotted down the dark stone stairs, heading straight into the obsidian depths.

”All right, little knight,” Felix sighed, settling deeper into his reclining chair. ”Let’s clear these ten floors, grab our thousand crystals, and get back to our afternoon nap.”

Two hundred miles away, deep beneath the earth, the ancient crypt shuddered.

The first floor of the First Emperor’s tomb groaned as an invisible cosmic presence descended from above, and the imperial vanguard had no idea what was about to hit them.
