Stellar Slacker: I Thought This Was an Idle Game!

Felix woke up from his afternoon nap feeling pleasantly refreshed.

The warm breeze from the southern valley carried the fragrant scent of the Sun-Lotus Cabbage blooming in the garden. The five-star vegetable’s ruffled leaves glowed like polished gold, bathing the yard in steady, soothing warmth.

Down in the tall grass, the Thunder Gryphon rolled over onto its back.

The imperial war-mount stretched its feathered paws toward the sky, giving a contented rumble as it scratched its shoulder against a boulder. It looked less like an apex predator and more like an overgrown barn cat enjoying retirement.

Inside the quiet kitchen, Grandmaster Vivienne’s Sovereign Heart Seal remained tucked beneath the wobbly leg of the pine table. Underneath the jade square, the ancient jade seal rested against the wood. The ancient relic hummed with faint violet sparks, faithfully anchoring a jar of pickled radish and a teapot.

On the porch railing, Barnaby the clockwork owl sat stiffly on watch.

The hand-carved oak bottle cork was pressed firmly into his brass beak, keeping his motivational speeches locked away. Under his left talon, the owl held a polished copper coin, amber crystal eyes watching a fat bumblebee hover over the garden fence.

Felix sat up slightly in the Zero-Gravity Recliner.

The chair floated smoothly on magnetic coils, tilting to support his spine as he reached for a blue ceramic bowl on the side table.

Inside the bowl were honey-glazed sesame crackers that Lyra had left for him. Felix picked one up and took a crunchy bite.

The roasted sesame seeds and crispy spirit-wheat crust dissolved into sweet, buttery perfection.

”Top-tier snack,” Felix murmured around the cracker. ”Crunchy, sweet, zero grease. The imperial baker deserves a raise.”

Beneath his ribs, his 2.0-Earth-Mass terrestrial core hummed with steady warmth.

Two complete planetary masses of compressed iron, nickel, and silicate purred like a massive engine, perfectly balanced. Felix barely noticed the astronomical gravitational potential inside him. To his senses, it felt like nothing more than a deep, satisfying stretch after a long rest.

He picked up his brass-cased AetherDeck from the armrest and tapped the screen.

The obsidian surface chimed, bringing up the dark corridors of Catacomb Crawler 8-Bit:

[CATACOMB CRAWLER 8-BIT: CURRENT RUN]

Current Floor: 28 [The Sunken Void Grotto]

Objective: Reach Floor 30 (The Abyssal Core Chamber)

Obstacle: Guardian Barrier Engaged

[ALERT: AREA BOSS IN PROXIMITY]

Target: Abyssal Void Kraken (Stage Elite)

Health: 500,000 / 500,000 HP

Armor: Invulnerable Void Carapace (Damage Reduction 99%)

Mechanics: 360-Degree Sweeping Tentacle Flail

Threat Level: Maximum (One-Hit Lethal)

Felix stared at the pixelated boss icon on the screen.

In the center of a submerged stone grotto, a massive purple-and-black squid with eight blocky tentacles was camped directly on top of a locked golden vault door. Right beside the monster sat a glowing golden chest containing the stage progression key.

Felix tapped the boss to inspect its behavioral scripts:

【Target: Abyssal Void Kraken】 【Grade: Primordial Calamity Beast (Stage Mini-Boss)】 【Behavior Profile: Territorial Guard AI】 【Inspector Note: A bloated ancient sea terror that has guarded the Sunken Palace for ten thousand years. Aggressively attacks anything in its 10-tile radius. However, its sensory receptors are hyper-sensitive to celestial carbohydrates.】

Felix rolled his eyes and let out a dry scowl.

”Five hundred thousand hit points,” Felix muttered, shaking his head. ”And ninety-nine percent damage reduction. Who designed this garbage?”

He took another bite of his sesame cracker, chewing thoughtfully.

”If I fight this thing properly, I’ll have to dodge-roll through seventy consecutive attack patterns,” Felix said. ”That’s forty-five minutes of thumb fatigue. My stamina bar would drain to zero. I am not ruining my afternoon for a damage sponge.”

The screen door pushed open with a soft click.

Lyra Ashford stepped outside carrying a porcelain jug of fresh spring water. Her disciple robes fluttered in the mountain air, silver hair gleaming beneath the sun. She approached with quiet grace, her violet eyes filled with boundless respect.

”Senior Brother,” Lyra said softly, refilling his celadon tea cup. ”You have awoken. Did your slumber bring peace to the heavens?”

”I was sleeping, Lyra, not fighting wars,” Felix replied, eyes glued to the AetherDeck screen. ”I’m looking at this ridiculous boss. The developers made it immune to normal physical strikes.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, it’s taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Lyra’s breath caught in her throat.

A calamity immune to physical strikes? she thought, heart pounding. Could Senior Brother be observing an ancient Netherworld Fiend that bypassed physical laws? An entity existing purely in the ethereal plane?

”Such a creature must be an abomination against the heavenly Dao,” Lyra said solemnly. ”Will you obliterate it with a focused pulse of your planetary mass?”

”Why would I waste energy on that?” Felix said with a lazy scoff. ”That sounds like work. In any poorly programmed game, the dumbest AI always has an aggro exploit.”

He tapped his inventory tab, scrolling past piles of compressed star-iron ore.

Down in the bottom corner of his virtual bag sat an item from an automated daily login bonus:

【Item: Stale Breadcrumb of the Sun】 【Grade: Common Consumable (F-Tier)】 【Nutritional Value: 0.1 Calories】 【Inspector Note: A dried crust of bread baked with Sun-Lotus spirit flour. Worthless to merchants. Smells like concentrated golden heaven to deep-sea predators that haven’t eaten carbs in ten thousand years.】

Felix grinned slightly.

”The behavioral notes say it loves carbs,” Felix murmured. ”Let’s see how smart this ancient squid really is.”

He placed his thumb on the glowing golden breadcrumb icon, dragged it across the map, and dropped it two hundred tiles away into an open digital sea trench leading out of the dungeon.

At that exact moment, four thousand miles south, the subterranean world beneath the Abyssal Mountains shook.

Deep within the Sunken Grotto of the First Epoch, the expedition of the Radiant Dawn Academy stood paralyzed on a stone ledge.

Arch-Inquisitor Valen was trembling so hard his rapier clattered against his scabbard.

Beside him, thirty senior elders and hundreds of disciples were frozen in place, faces pale as chalk. Even the light of their protective spirit lamps drowned in the suffocating black mist.

Before them lay a subterranean ocean stretching into the dark.

Rising from the pitch-black waters was an ancient nightmare.

The Primordial Void Kraken was a creature of prehistoric myth. Its central mantle was the size of an imperial citadel, covered in thick plates of abyssal chitin that had deflected lightning for ten millennia. Hundreds of colossal tentacles, each thick enough to crush a mountain ridge, coiled lazily through the black depths.

The beast lay coiled around the submerged Sunken Palace, eight hundred crimson eyes glowing in the dark like burning embers.

Every breath the leviathan took generated thirty-foot whirlpools.

”It is... the Void Kraken,” Valen whispered in despair. ”The eternal guardian of the First Epoch. Legend said it died during the Great Sundering, but it lives.”

”Elder Valen,” a trembling array elder wept beside him, ”its aura alone crushes our dantian meridians! We cannot cross this water! To fight such a calamity, the Academy would have to sacrifice thousands of disciples!”

”We cannot fight it,” Valen said, closing his eyes in defeat. ”No mortal force can pierce that abyssal shell. The gates of the First Epoch will remain closed to us forever.”

Then, high above the subterranean ocean, the air rippled.

A microscopic speck of golden light drifted down through the granite ceiling.

It was no larger than a grain of sand, yet it fell through the darkness with the radiant warmth of a miniature dawn. It was a single crumb of celestial Sun-Lotus bread, infused with the pure solar essence of Solitude Spire.

The moment the crumb touched the surface of the black water, a sweet aroma exploded across the subterranean sea.

The eight hundred crimson eyes of the Primordial Void Kraken opened wide.

Every pupil dilated until its eyes became massive black pools of pure hunger. The ancient leviathan, which had slumbered in the frozen void for ten thousand years, suddenly smelled fresh, golden carbs.

The beast’s massive tentacles stiffened in mid-water.

A low, guttural shriek echoed from the depths of the ocean, shattering stone stalactites hanging from the cavern roof.

”The beast is attacking!” Valen shouted in panic. ”Form the defensive sphere! Prepare for death!”

The attack never came.

The titanic kraken did not look at the cultivators. It did not care about the Sunken Palace. It did not care about its ancient sacred oath.

Its colossal body surged toward the golden crumb.

With a flick of its tentacles that generated a supersonic shockwave, the ten-thousand-foot sea monster rocketed forward, swallowing the golden speck in a single gulp.

Yet the crumb’s lingering trace drifted outward along the ocean current toward the vast, southern mortal sea.

The Kraken roared with manic joy.

It completely abandoned the ancient palace, tearing through the subterranean reefs like an unstoppable battering ram. It swam with desperate fury, chasing the golden scent out of the cavern and into the open ocean!

Within three seconds, the subterranean grotto was completely empty.

The waters settled. The crushing void aura vanished into thin air. The ancient Sunken Palace stood entirely unguarded beneath the clear, calm water.

Arch-Inquisitor Valen stood frozen on the ledge, jaw slack.

”It... it left?” an elder stammered, blinking into the quiet cavern. ”The Primordial Void Kraken... just swam away?”

”Look at the residual energy in the water!” the array master shouted, pointing at the surface. ”A divine scent! It carries the warmth of the Great Solar Origin! Someone baited the ancient sovereign of the deep with a celestial offering!”

Valen fell to his knees in the wet sand, mind reeling as comprehension struck him.

”Senior Brother Vance...” Valen whispered, tears of terror and enlightenment streaming down his face. ”He did not send an army. He shed zero blood. He treated an ancient, world-ending titan like a hungry stray dog!”

The elders gasped in horror and wonder.

”The Dao of Effortless Aggro!” an elder cried in epiphany. ”To conquer without striking! To redirect the wrath of the heavens with a mere gesture! His wisdom is ten thousand leagues above mortal understanding!”

Valen clasped his hands toward the distant north, bowing until his forehead pressed into the stone.

”Praise the Slumbering Sovereign!” Valen yelled with fanatical zeal. ”He saved our lives without leaving his chair!”

Back on the sunny porch of Solitude Spire, Felix was casually tapping his screen.

On his AetherDeck, the pixelated Kraken had vanished into the edge of the display, leaving behind an empty stone grotto.

His little 8-bit knight strolled uncontested across the tiles, kicked open the golden chest, and hoisted a glowing key into the air:

[CATACOMB CRAWLER: VAULT UNLOCKED]

Acquired: [Abyssal Vault Key (Floor 30)]

Elite Guardian Status: Lured Away (Despawn Timer: 4 Hours)

Stage Progress: Floor 29 Cleared!

Final Boss Chamber: Accessible

Felix brushed a sesame seed crumb off his shorts and popped another cracker into his mouth.

”Works every time,” Felix muttered, crunching with satisfaction. ”Dumb AI aggro tables. Never fight a damage sponge when you can cheese it with bait.”

Lyra Ashford stood beside him, hands trembling as she took in his words.

Dumb AI aggro tables? she thought, repeating the sacred Daoist chant in her mind. He refers to the primitive karmic instincts of mortal beasts! Senior Brother perceives the strings of destiny that bind all living creatures, manipulating their desires with effortless grace!

”Senior Brother’s mastery over cosmic will is unmatched,” Lyra murmured, bowing deeply. ”You conquered the abyss without lifting your hand.”

Felix glanced up at her, giving a blank, deadpan stare from beneath his straw hat.

”Lyra, I literally threw a piece of stale bread,” Felix said flatly. ”It had zero resale value. Now pour me some more tea, I have to see what kind of garbage boss is waiting on Floor Thirty.”

Lyra poured the cold tea with holy devotion, convinced she was serving the supreme architect of the universe.

Down in the clover yard, the Thunder Gryphon snored peacefully under the golden sun, untroubled by the kraken fleeing across the mortal oceans.
