When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 173: Chapter 169: Good-for-nothing x Pure Little Overlord 8

”Assistant Li? Didn’t Father say my confinement wouldn’t be lifted until tomorrow?”

Ji Xiaosong asked with difficulty, her voice hoarse.

”You... you’ve been in here the whole time?” Assistant Li was still in disbelief.

”Where else would I be?”

She slowly got to her feet, her bare feet touching the cold tile floor.

Assistant Li didn’t see the cold smile that touched the girl’s lips as she lowered her gaze.

”This person trending online...” Assistant Li shoved her phone in front of Ji Xiaosong’s face.

Ji Xiaosong tilted her head, looking at the picture of herself in smoky makeup, and suddenly let out a laugh. ”This girl has a beauty mark under the corner of her eye.”

She lifted her bangs, revealing nothing below her smooth right eye. ”I heard Starry Entertainment is developing virtual idols. AI face-swapping technology is really amazing these days.”

”Something like a beauty mark can be faked. I’d rather believe you actually went to Starry Entertainment. Miss, I think you should be well aware of your value to this family. If you don’t behave, you’ll be left with nothing.”

Assistant Li shot her a contemptuous glance and continued, ”We’ll file a lawsuit against Starry Entertainment on your behalf. You don’t need to worry about anything else.”

She looked at the butler and ordered, ”Bring the young miss something to eat. Don’t let her die; she can still be sold for a few contracts, at least.”

”Yes, Assistant Li. I’ll give the order right away.”

The butler left, and Assistant Li didn’t spare Ji Xiaosong another glance before shutting the door.

She originally didn’t know anything about the entertainment industry; after all, the Ji family had no connections to it.

But Ji Xiaosong’s various short videos and pictures had spread everywhere in an extremely short amount of time, and even some company employees had become her fans.

They were posting dozens of times a day on their social media feeds and short-video platforms.

They were acting just like crazed fans, making it hard for her not to notice.

Whether it was true that Ji Xiaosong went out to compete or not, there was a problem with the Ji family’s security, and it definitely had something to do with her.

Otherwise, how could a good girl who had been strictly supervised for over twenty years possibly do something so earth-shattering?

’Someone must be acting in her name!’

On her own authority, Assistant Li hired another thirty bodyguards, arranging for them to work in shifts day and night, stationed on every floor of the Ji family villa.

She refused to believe that anyone could escape under such tight security.

After Assistant Li left, the butler personally brought in a bowl of vegetable congee.

In the past, he wouldn’t have been so kind.

But that one glimpse he’d just had of Ji Xiaosong—the image of a fragile, broken beauty—had been too powerful.

People are all drawn to beauty, and he was certainly no exception.

Anyone who has spent time with a true beauty will find themselves unconsciously growing gentler.

’I can’t make a move on Miss Ji Xiaosong, but it’s nice just to get closer and look at her a few more times. After all, once the Ji family sells her off, I won’t be able to see her anymore.’

The butler tiptoed into the confinement room, placed the vegetable congee on the floor to the side, and gave a slight bow, an unnatural smile on his face. ”Miss, please have some congee. Don’t starve yourself.”

Ji Xiaosong glanced at the bowl of congee, hesitated for a moment, then slowly walked over, sat down, picked up the bowl, and began to sip it slowly.

Her movements were very slow, as if she had to savor every single sip. She looked as though a long period of confinement and hunger had left her body so weak that she could only slowly regain her strength.

After a while, Ji Xiaosong finished the congee, wiped the corner of her mouth with her hand, and looked up with a hint of timidity in her eyes. ”Thank you, Butler.”

The butler looked at her, his gaze now more probing. ”Miss, have you really been in this room the whole time? You haven’t gone out?”

Ji Xiaosong quickly shook her head, her voice tinged with grievance. ”Butler, I really haven’t. I’m under confinement, where could I possibly go? This room doesn’t even have windows; I can’t get out at all.”

The butler frowned. ”But the rumors outside are running wild. They say you entered some kind of competition, and there are even photos and videos of you online.”

Ji Xiaosong looked completely baffled. ”I really don’t know anything about it. Maybe someone really did use AI face-swapping to frame me on purpose. Butler, you have to believe me.”

As she spoke, her eyes reddened slightly, and she looked as if she were on the verge of tears.

Seeing her pitiful appearance, the butler’s suspicions lessened. ”Miss, don’t blame Assistant Li. She’s just looking out for the Ji family’s interests. If something really happened to you, it would be a huge loss of face for the family. Singing and all that... that’s work for lowly performers. You shouldn’t be showing your face in public like that.”

Ji Xiaosong lowered her head and said in a small voice, ”I know. It’s my fault for making everyone worry. I’ll be obedient from now on and won’t cause any more trouble.”

The butler sighed. ”It’s good that you understand. Get some rest. If you need anything, just let me know.”

With that, the butler turned to leave.

At the door, the butler glanced back at Ji Xiaosong one more time. He saw her sitting all alone in the confinement room, her figure looking especially frail.

He opened his mouth as if to say something more, but in the end, he said nothing and closed the door.

’The Ji family aren’t fools. Assistant Li will definitely tell others about this.’

Ji Xiaosong thought for a moment and decided she wasn’t going to stay here any longer.

She wiped the data from the phone that had a tracker installed, then smashed it to pieces.

Once she was sure no one could possibly use it again, she stored all of her belongings in her space.

When night fell, she vanished in a flash and left the Ji family estate.

Walking along the empty street, Ji Xiaosong contemplated her next move.

She still had twenty thousand yuan in her account, and the money from Jiang Yao wouldn’t arrive until the fifth of next month.

With twenty thousand yuan, she couldn’t rent a place with very good security right now.

After thinking it over, Ji Xiaosong decided to call Jiang Yao.

After all, besides asking Jiang Yao for help, she had no other friends to turn to.

In all her years under the Ji family’s strict control, she had never been allowed to make a single friend.

”Hello, Jiang Yao, it’s Ji Xiaosong. I don’t have anywhere to go right now. Could I ask you for a safe place to stay?”

When Jiang Yao received Ji Xiaosong’s call, he looked at the caller ID several times.

”Not a problem. I happen to have a large flat in the city center. You can come and stay there directly.”

”A large flat in the city center? The kind that costs at least one hundred and forty thousand a month to rent?”

”That’s the one. Just think of it as an employee benefit. I don’t usually stay in that apartment anyway; it’s just an investment.”

Jiang Yao said it so casually that if Ji Xiaosong didn’t know the apartment was worth over a hundred million, she might have actually believed him.

But right now, she had no other choice. Since Jiang Yao had extended an olive branch, she would accept it.

”Send me the address. I’ll head over now.”

Jiang Yao quickly sent the address. By the time Ji Xiaosong arrived, he had already been waiting at the entrance of the residential complex for quite some time.

”How did you get here so fast?”

”I usually live on the floor just above the one you’re about to move into.”

Jiang Yao naturally took Ji Xiaosong’s suitcase from her. ”The security in this complex is probably the best in the entire city. Even other residents can’t get to your floor without your fingerprint and iris scan.”
