When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 169: Chapter 165: Good-for-nothing x Pure Little Tyrant 4

Shen Fengming looked at Ji Xiaosong. Though she didn’t want her to leave, she understood her daughter’s circumstances.

It was always like this when her daughter came to visit—always arriving in a hurry and leaving just as quickly.

”Alright. Be careful on your way.”

”Mom, I’ve hired a caregiver for you. She’ll look after you today, and I’ll be back tomorrow.”

Ji Xiaosong said goodbye to Shen Fengming. Now, she had to go earn some money.

The original body had already graduated but wasn’t allowed to work. Instead, Li Liping was constantly dragging her to blind dates.

This wasn’t the life Ji Xiaosong wanted. She had to find a suitable job and move out of that house as soon as possible.

’After the beating I gave the family last night, they definitely won’t be getting out of bed today. No one will care what I do.’

”Rongrong, what kind of job do you think would be good for me?”

”The original body is more beautiful than an A-list celebrity, you can write lyrics, and your singing voice isn’t bad. Why don’t you just become a star?”

”A star who earns 2.08 million a day? I suppose that’s an option.”

With a goal in mind, Ji Xiaosong began looking up entertainment companies in this world.

’If I’m going to do this, I have to aim for the best.’

”Song, while I was floating around outside just now, I overheard someone talking about a ’Best Singer’ competition. Today happens to be the first day of the national auditions. Want to give it a shot? Maybe entering the entertainment industry through a competition will get you taken more seriously?”

”Let’s go!”

Ji Xiaosong followed Rongrong to the stadium.

Because so many people were registering, the organizers had chosen this stadium as the venue for the preliminary auditions.

Ji Xiaosong registered on the spot. Her turn wouldn’t be for another two hours.

During the two-hour wait, Ji Xiaosong found a quiet corner, sat down, closed her eyes, and cleared her mind.

Rongrong stayed by her side quietly, not daring to disturb her in the slightest.

The lyrics to *Graduation Season*, a song the original body had written, began to surface in Ji Xiaosong’s mind. It was a piece from her third year of high school, right before graduation.

She hummed softly, her fingers tapping out a rhythm on her knee as she tried to find the perfect melody.

At first, the melody always seemed to be missing something, but Ji Xiaosong didn’t get discouraged. She tried over and over, constantly adjusting the rhythm and pitch.

Gradually, a tune that was melodious and upbeat, yet tinged with a faint sadness, began to form in her mind.

Two hours flew by, and soon it was Ji Xiaosong’s turn.

She took a deep breath and walked steadily onto the stage. The spotlight instantly hit her.

Down below, the eyes of the packed audience and the judges were all fixed on her.

She cleared her throat and picked up the microphone. ”Next, I’ll be singing a song I wrote in high school. It’s called *Graduation Season*.”

Her words caused an uproar in the audience, and the judges’ expressions turned to a mixture of surprise and anticipation.

The intro began, and its unique melody immediately captivated everyone.

Ji Xiaosong began to sing. Her voice was crisp and melodious, like a mountain spring trickling down a stream or a gentle spring breeze.

The lyrics flowed with the melody, telling of youthful infatuations, the troubles of growing up, and the hopes that came with it.

She was completely immersed in the song, her expressions vivid and her body language natural and expressive.

The audience was captivated by her voice. Some closed their eyes, savoring the music;

others nodded along to the rhythm;

while the eyes of others shone with emotion.

The judges were completely engrossed, their pens scribbling furiously on their notepads.

As the last note faded, the entire stadium erupted in thunderous applause and cheers.

”Excuse me, contestant. Could you please move your bangs aside?” the judge in the center suddenly requested.

”Alright, no problem.”

The moment Ji Xiaosong lifted her bangs, the venue was filled with sharp intakes of breath.

”With a face like that? She’s this beautiful without any makeup. Imagine how she’d look if she wore it! What’s the point of us even competing?”

”Exactly! She sings well, writes her own songs, and is gorgeous!”

”Having such a strong competitor is a good thing, actually. The show will probably get a lot of attention, which means we might get our chance to shine, too.”

”Her face is just... she’s so beautiful I want to give her all the most wonderful things in the world.”

”Get a grip, stop swooning. She’s our competition.”

”Look at that face. Do you really think we still have a chance of winning?”

”For a singer, talent is what matters most. Singing talent, not looks.”

”But she has talent, too.”

...

The chatter in the stadium grew louder, and just as she’d hoped, Ji Xiaosong received a pass to advance directly.

”Miss Ji, this pass allows you to advance directly to the final round of the provincial competition. In ten days, please remember to come to the Broadcasting and Television Building to compete.”

The judges had high expectations for Ji Xiaosong. Someone on the spot even asked if she was willing to sell the song’s copyright.

”I’m sorry, but I don’t have any plans to sell the copyright at the moment. Perhaps we can collaborate in the future if the opportunity arises.”

’I have to save all my albums for future release. If I sell the rights now, it could become a restriction on me later.’

By the time she was done with the singing competition, it was almost evening.

Ji Xiaosong was wondering how to get home when a black Alphard suddenly pulled up in front of her.

”Song, this is the car Jiang Yao usually takes. He also called the police yesterday. It was because he pressed the matter that those thugs ended up in jail, even after the people your stepmother sent over reached a settlement.”

’He’d be that kind?’

”Who knows? He was your classmate in high school and in university. Even though you two didn’t talk much, you still knew each other. Maybe he helped just for old times’ sake.”

Ji Xiaosong was communicating with Rongrong via Divine Sense when the car door opened.

”Get in.”

Jiang Yao was wearing a white hoodie and light blue jeans, looking the very picture of a vibrant, young man.

Remembering her persona, Ji Xiaosong took a tiny step backward.

”Jiang Yao, I... I don’t think we’re going the same way.”

”Tsk... Are you planning to take the bus home? Would the Ji family really let you be seen in public like that? If I’m not mistaken, your family’s driver is about to track you down using your phone’s location.”

’Location?’

Ji Xiaosong froze. Only then did she remember that to control the original body, Ji Fu had installed a tracker in her phone and arranged for a car and driver to follow her at all times.

She had snuck out that morning while the family was in chaos, so no one had noticed.

’Now that I’ve been out for a whole day, the driver is bound to have noticed.’

’In that case, I’d better get in his car. No matter what, Jiang Yao probably won’t do anything to me.’

”Mr. Jiang, is there something you need from me?”

”The competition you were in today is hosted by my family’s company. I heard you sing earlier, so I came to talk to you about signing a contract.”
