When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 166: Chapter 162: Wimp x Innocent Young Overlord 1

Ji Xiaosong left the last world through a natural death. Only when she had truly returned to her original body did she let out a long sigh of relief.

”Rongrong, that last world really scared me to death. I thought I was going to be stuck there forever. When Feng Cangwu locked me up, I had already planned my escape. Worst case, I would have just abandoned my Divine Soul in that world. I have plenty of offshoots, so I’m not lacking for one.”

Rongrong floated above Ji Xiaosong’s plant form and quickly reminded her, ”You should check if that Marriage Contract Bell is still there. In the last world, Feng Cangwu used many methods to tie you to his side.”

Hearing this, Ji Xiaosong quickly checked.

”Ugh... It’s still here, but it’s not a big deal. I have many offshoots. Transfer my memories from the Phoenix Clan and the Beast World to that offshoot. If Feng Cangwu comes looking for me in the future, that entire offshoot can take my place as his target.”

”Song, I think Feng Cangwu is pretty great. He’s incredibly powerful, able to create his own small worlds and become a Beast God, which is basically no different from the Heavenly Dao. It wouldn’t be so bad to be with a man like that.”

”Rongrong, the worlds are so vast and numerous. I can’t tie myself down to just one person. Isn’t the point of traversing so many worlds to experience all they have to offer and accumulate merit?”

”If you put it that way, you’re no different from those women who watch short-form dramas—falling in love with a new person in every episode, sometimes a dozen in a single day.”

”Not exactly. I only love one person per lifetime, so I’m already very devoted. Anyway, let’s move on to the next world. My career is what’s important. Ascension is what’s important.”

After speaking, Ji Xiaosong set aside the offshoot with the Marriage Contract Bell and copied her memories from the previous world onto it.

Rongrong also transferred Ji Xiaosong’s memories from the Phoenix Clan over. After settling these two matters, Ji Xiaosong arrived in a new world.

*

”Little beauty, just give it up. This alley only has one way out. If you’re a good girl and take care of me, I might just let you live.”

Ji Xiaosong had just transmigrated when she heard the voice of a punk.

She looked up and saw a dozen or so punks, who looked to be under twenty, with gaudy, scenester-style hair. They were slouching as they blocked the only exit.

Just as she was about to deal with these punks with brute force, Rongrong’s voice entered her mind.

”Song, your original host in this world has the persona of a total pushover. For now, you need to keep the people close to the original host convinced that you’re a weakling. This world is too fragile. If you change too drastically and make too many people suspicious, the world might collapse.”

”Okay.”

”Right, your mission target for this life, Jiang Yao, is nearby. He’s standing over there, watching the show.”

Ji Xiaosong spread her Divine Sense and, sure enough, saw Jiang Yao at one end of the alley, leaning casually against a wall.

”Got it. What kind of role is Jiang Yao?”

”He’s one of the important characters.”

”What about the punks?”

”In the original host’s previous life, they robbed her and left, and were never seen again. But the money was eventually recovered because Jiang Yao called the police.”

”I understand. I can’t let my persona collapse too drastically in front of Jiang Yao right from the start, but I can change it gradually. As soon as he leaves, I can do whatever I want.”

”You could say that.”

”Alright, watch me.”

”Little beauty, what are you thinking about over there? Thinking about me?”

Ji Xiaosong clutched her backpack tightly and took three steps back, her back hitting the damp brick wall.

Her fingertips, hidden from view, unlocked her phone to call the police. Her trembling voice carried a precisely worded lure:

”Bros... if you want money, my... my stepmother just transferred me my living expenses last week...”

”Your stepmother? I heard she can’t wait to get rid of an eyesore like you. Why would she give you living expenses?”

The lead punk laughed wildly but was quickly tugged on the sleeve by the person next to him as a reminder.

Seeing their reaction, Ji Xiaosong guessed what was going on. ’This whole scene was, in all likelihood, orchestrated by my dear stepmother or stepsister.’

”It’s true... I... We’re in a dead-end alley on Fuhua Road right now. Even if you let me run, I couldn’t escape. Why would I lie?”

She fumbled frantically through her bag, finally pulling out a twenty-yuan bill with trembling hands.

”Bros, this... this is my living expense for the whole week. I don’t have a job right now, so I have to rely on this money to buy one steamed bun a day.”

”Who do you think you’re kidding! I got a call saying you withdrew money today. You have thirty thousand in cash in that bag.”

Before Ji Xiaosong could say anything else, the leader of the punks snatched the bag from her hands.

After a thorough search, he found thirty thousand yuan in cash in a hidden compartment of the bag, all fresh from the bank.

Ji Xiaosong kept her head down, her thick bangs covering her eyes.

”That’s for my mom’s medical bills. I really can’t give it to you. If I do, my mom can’t have her surgery tomorrow.”

Her voice trembled, the sense of utter brokenness almost palpable.

Jiang Yao glanced over, found it boring, and turned to leave.

After a few steps, he tutted a few times, then stopped and simply called the police.

”Please... that’s my mom’s life-saving money...”

Ji Xiaosong cowered in the corner, tears carving two clean streaks down her grimy little face.

She desperately clutched the torn strap of her backpack, her white knuckles making her look like a cornered little animal.

A blond-haired punk held up three stacks of bills, smacking them together with a loud THWACK. ”Boss, this chick is a damn good actress! A second ago she said she only had twenty yuan...”

He suddenly froze. A withdrawal slip fell out from between the bills. The amount on it was clearly fifty thousand yuan.

Seventeen pairs of eyes simultaneously locked onto the fluttering piece of paper.

”N-no, that’s not...”

Ji Xiaosong scrambled forward to grab it, but a red-haired punk stomped on her wrist.

She cried out in pain and tilted her head up. Her thick bangs slid behind her ear, revealing an ugly burn scar at the corner of her right eye.

This was the masterpiece of her stepsister, who had ”accidentally” knocked over a boiling kettle last week.

A punk with a scar on his face grabbed her by the collar. ”You damn brat, you dare to play us? Speak! Where did you hide the other twenty thousand?”

”It’s... it’s...”

The girl’s trembling finger pointed at the blond punk, then retracted as if shocked. ”I didn’t see anything! Please don’t burn down my house!”

She suddenly grabbed her head and screamed, looking for all the world like she had been scared out of her mind.

”You bastard, you pocketed it?” The scar-faced punk’s fist flew toward the blond with a WHOOSH.

The red-haired punk was about to break up the fight when he suddenly glimpsed half of a gold chain sticking out of the blond’s pocket.

”Isn’t that the gold chain the boss just lost yesterday? What’s it doing on you?”

The narrow alley instantly erupted into chaos.

The seventeen-person gang, already filled with members with their own ulterior motives, was now consumed by suspicion that spread like wildfire.

Some were grabbing each other’s collars to search them, others were taking the opportunity to stuff money into their own pockets. The dull thuds of steel pipes hitting flesh mixed with profanities, echoing between the damp brick walls.

Ji Xiaosong slowly sidled along the base of the wall. The tips of her hair were still dripping, but the corner of her lips curved into a barely perceptible smile.

A moment ago, she had deliberately folded the withdrawal slip in three, ensuring the amount would be clearly visible when it fell.

’As for the gold chain in the blond’s pocket...’ The girl glanced down at the gold dust lingering on her palm. She had scraped it off some graffiti on the wall.

By the time the sound of police sirens grew from a distant wail to a piercing shriek, the battle had already devolved into four separate brawls.
