When a Blade of Grass Wants to Become Immortal

Chapter 167: Chapter 163: Good-for-nothing x Innocent Young Overlord 2

The red-head, the first to realize something was wrong, tried to run but was suddenly tripped by something.

It was that damn schoolbag strap, which had somehow wrapped itself around his ankle.

”Officer! They’re robbing me!”

Ji Xiaosong cried out and lunged toward the police car. Her filthy school uniform was stained with muddy water, and the scrape on her elbow was oozing blood beads. ”My mom is still in the hospital waiting for surgery...”

While taking her statement, the young officer frowned as he looked at the medical report.

Aside from the stomp mark on her wrist, all her other injuries were old ones.

He looked up toward the interrogation room. Through the glass, the girl was quietly sipping hot water, her hair falling to cover a scar. It was as if her earlier, precise dodges—which had avoided any fatal harm—had just been his imagination.

Outside the police station, Jiang Yao toyed with his phone before turning to leave.

The security footage froze on the moment he glanced back. In the reflection of a puddle at the alley’s entrance, the girl’s curled-up form and the cold light in her eyes as she looked up shattered into thorny stars among the ripples.

’Interesting. They all say the Ji family’s eldest daughter is a worthless fool, but it seems her reputation is undeserved.’

「Inside the police station.」

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead as Ji Xiaosong held a disposable paper cup, taking small sips.

The steam from the hot water fogged past her lowered lashes, casting a blurry halo on the glass of the observation window.

Rongrong’s voice suddenly exploded in her mind. ”The people your stepmother sent are here!”

The sharp tapping of high heels echoed from the hallway, as if someone were deliberately trying to shatter the tiles with each step.

A hand with rhinestone-studded nails pushed the door open with a CLICK. A gaunt woman in a black suit tossed a faded old jacket at Ji Xiaosong, which landed just so, covering the burn on her face.

”My, you’ve really made something of yourself, Young Miss.”

Assistant Li adjusted her golden-thread glasses. The jade Pixiu charm on the chain glinted coldly. ”Last week, you smashed the master’s Song dynasty teacup. This week, you’re causing a scene at the police station. And what message do you think the master had for me to deliver?”

Her mud-speckled sneakers scuffed softly against the floor. Ji Xiaosong buried her face in her collar, revealing a patch of bruised skin on the back of her neck.

The posture perfectly conveyed fear, while also allowing her to observe the woman through the gaps in the fabric.

”The master says that after the mistress’s charity gala tomorrow night, he will be enforcing the family discipline.”

The tip of her high heel suddenly kicked over a plastic stool. As the woman leaned in, a cloud of strong perfume enveloped Ji Xiaosong. ”As for now, you are to return to your ’room’ and reflect on your actions.”

’Solitary confinement.’ Ji Xiaosong knew instinctively what ”reflecting” meant.

In the stretch limousine outside the station, the scent of her stepsister’s rose perfume lingered on the leather seats.

Ji Xiaosong huddled in a corner, listening as Assistant Li reported to her father, Ji Fu, over her Bluetooth headset.

”Yes, the Young Miss has been given a sedative... Don’t worry, the surveillance footage has been taken care of. Those punks were just having a bit of fun with her. We won’t be pressing charges.”

The neon lights streaking past the window reflected in her dark pupils like flowing blood.

”We’re here.”

Assistant Li grabbed Ji Xiaosong’s arm and dragged her toward the villa’s back door, her diamond-studded watch digging painfully into Ji Xiaosong’s flesh.

As moonlight swept across a third-floor window on the west wing, Ji Xiaosong stumbled and looked up just in time to see her stepsister, Ji Yao, raise a glass of red wine and make a throat-slitting gesture at her.

”Rongrong, are you sure I can’t just kill them? I get robbed by thugs, and not only does my family do nothing, they let the thugs go?”

Ji Xiaosong sat in the dark room before stretching out languidly on the floor.

The room was completely bare. The original host had been locked in here frequently since she was a child.

”Murder is illegal. You have to remember that.”

’I know. The original host’s mother has surgery tomorrow, and she’s waiting for this fifty thousand yuan. I’m almost certain Ji Yao hired those thugs. After all, besides family, no one else knew my exact location. And Ji Yao was the only one who could have dismissed the driver.’

Ji Xiaosong took out the bag she had secretly stashed in her pocket dimension. Using her Divine Sense, she examined its contents.

’The money was all there, not a single cent missing. But how am I going to deposit it tomorrow?’

”Don’t worry about that for now,” Rongrong said. ”You should absorb the original host’s memories first. You’ve been running around all day, from dealing with thugs to going to the police station. You haven’t had a moment to relax.”

”Fine, fine.”

Ji Xiaosong began to absorb the memories.

The original host had been a timid, obedient girl—or more accurately, she had been forced into being a timid, obedient girl since childhood.

Her father had used her mother’s family connections and dowry to build his fortune. The first thing he did after making his first million was cheat on her with his current wife.

After he had Ji Yao, that father of hers, Ji Fu, went so far as to have her mother’s entire family killed.

He poisoned them, quietly and secretly, making their deaths look like they’d succumbed to illness.

He was able to pull it off because Ji Fu was a medical school graduate.

With her family gone, the simple and powerless first wife had only two options: die or get a divorce.

Though naive, the original host’s mother understood her situation.

To save her own life, she divorced him.

And in the hopes that her daughter would have a better life, she left her behind with Ji Fu.

Ji Fu hadn’t wanted to keep his daughter, especially since his new wife objected.

But when he thought of her breathtaking beauty, he decided to keep her.

’What if she proved useful someday?’

But Ji Yao knew nothing of these plans.

She had been jealous of the original host since they were children; she was not only beautiful but also an excellent student.

Her writing, in particular, always won awards.

So, growing up, Ji Yao constantly made trouble for her.

If Ji Fu hadn’t been protecting her face and body for his own purposes, Ji Yao would have killed her countless times over.

But while Ji Fu protected her looks, he couldn’t prevent Ji Yao from injuring her in other ways.

This left her with a few scars.

And because of that, Ji Fu’s interest in her had recently waned.

Ji Yao, as if finding a new outlet for her cruelty, took the original host to a bar right after the incident with the thugs and had her raped.

Her innocence was stolen and her face was ruined.

Other than a single beating from Ji Fu, Ji Yao received no punishment for what she had done.

Ji Xiaosong finished reviewing the original host’s life. After being raped in the bar, she had killed herself.

She had lived her entire life as a pushover.

Her only legacy was the lyrics she left behind.

The original host was a lyricist, but she never had the chance to get her work published.

After her suicide, everything she left behind fell into Ji Yao’s hands.

Using the original host’s work, she became a famous lyricist.

Ji Xiaosong took a few deep breaths, struggling to calm her emotions.

’I can’t keep acting like such a coward. I have to come up with a proper plan.’

”Rongrong, first thing tomorrow morning, I need to go to the hospital and pay for my mom’s medical bills. Otherwise, she won’t be able to have her surgery. I’ll use a Spell to get out secretly. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

”It should be fine, but you can’t let anyone see you. Especially not the people in this house. We’d have no way to explain it.”
