Pillar of Yita

After Vikki took her step, the hall fell silent, with everyone awaiting Fang Hong’s next move.

But in Fang Hong’s gaze, only the crisscrossing silverlight and his seven Clockwork Fairies on the chessboard were quietly reflected. After a while, he discovered something different—the chessboard called ’Liox’s Beast Chess’ has its primary element as the ’Margin Technique,’ because only the ’Margin Technique’ allows pieces to move on the board.

When the player connects with the piece, the sensing time is only an instant.

This means that in one round, the player can only give one command to each piece. The piece does not accept the usual control methods of craftsmen, which is very similar to the rules of the training software Shana gave him, only the content form is somewhat different—

Or it can be regarded as another training method for the ’Margin Technique.’

Fang Hong was slightly surprised. This means that if either side on the chessboard does not understand the ’Margin Technique,’ they don’t even qualify to start their moves. The threshold for this competition is much higher than ordinary competitions, no wonder the girl named Vikki despises the usual forms of competitions.

But he was also slightly relieved.

Fortunately, he learned this from Shana’s training software, otherwise, he’d truly make a fool of himself today.

But as people waited for his next move, the chessboard remained silent, without any change.

Vikki furrowed her brow slightly, lifted her head, and also looked at the unmoving grid.

Few people know, in testing this rule above, Fang Hong had already used up the command opportunities of four Clockwork Fairies. He realized how to proceed with the game, but having only three Clockwork Fairies advance alone was meaningless.

So he decided to skip this round.

”Player Ande Ulriel forgoes action.” The referee looked at the chessboard, deciphering Fang Hong’s intention, and announced it once to both sides with a calm voice from the Crystal.

This statement stirred a considerable commotion in the hall. The crowd surrounding the stands was already quite dense, with increasing attention on this match because the participants were Ancient Tower players—amidst murmurs, earlier arrivals were narrating to newcomers what had happened.

Although Vikki and they belonged to different nationalities, since they were all participants of the Continental League, after hearing the prior description, more people chose to join forces against the Old Dwarf.

They were all participants; how could they be defeated by an outsider?

Some were already whispering, questioning if Fang Hong even knew the Margin Technique. ’Liox’s Beast Chess’ has gradually become a popular game among Combat Artisans, but since the ’Margin Technique’ is also a frontier domain in the Second World, not every Combat Artisan can participate in this game.

And those who can participate undoubtedly have the prideful capital, especially in the barren First World.

Even the spectators of ’Liox’s Beast Chess’ seemed to share in the glory, even feeling entitled to comment.

”That Korean girl is quite impressive...”

”I saw her play against someone from Silver Forest Spear before, she won with no suspense—”

”Why isn’t that opponent moving?”

”You don’t understand, do you? The opponent picked the seven simplest Clockwork Fairies but still couldn’t get them to move. It looks like they’re about to forfeit.”

A spectator who seemed knowledgeable was analyzing clearly, surrounded by listeners unconsciously admiring the insights.

Meanwhile, treated as a background character, the other participant from the previous game—the long-haired youth from Silver Forest Spear—just shook his head after hearing this. He held back the little girl ready to make trouble, feeling not much anger within.

Vikki was indeed stronger than him; that too was a fact.

Just like in the guild, Wu Di was much stronger than him as well.

The hall wasn’t the main venue for the competitions in the following weeks, so the stands were merely temporary setups without soundproof measures. The murmured discussions around also reached Vikki’s ears.

But she didn’t react much; even Fang Hong’s act of forfeiting didn’t stir much emotion in the girl’s heart. Super Competitive is sacred; it ended human wars. From a young age, she received such education—

The significance of Super Competitive lies in mankind solving past disputes in a more civilized manner. Therefore, each participant (Chosen, in the South Korean terminology) represents not just themselves in this tournament.

Pursuing this ideal is why she embarked on this path, thus every match holds extraordinary significance for her.

Opponents’ extra-matches tactics might disturb her mood, but once she enters the game state, Vikki’s eyes only focus on the challenge itself.

Competition is for victory.

To achieve victory using simple means, to prove oneself, this is what the girl pursues.

Her heart was calm, as she issued command after command, letting her seven pieces advance one by one. When the Annihilator Qv700 closed to five grids, it unfolded its attack form. After a beam of red light vanished, one of Fang Hong’s Clockwork Fairies also disappeared from the board.

The hall echoed with a low sigh.

The majority present here are destined never to become Combat Artisans, and even if they do, they might not necessarily learn the Margin Technique. Thus people naturally understand the sophisticated skills hidden behind this seemingly simple way of moving pieces.
