Pillar of Yita

However, equally, the speed at which the undead were resurrecting was very slow, roughly a third of the speed at which they were being slain.

At this rate, Fang Hong silently estimated, perhaps in half an hour they would be able to reduce the number of minions of this ancient king to an acceptable level.

The premise was that nothing unexpected would occur, but in battle with a BOSS, unexpected situations were usually abundant.

Moreover, while there were numerous records on the community’s forum about that year’s joint battle, details and strategies for combat with the Ancient Monarch Hunter were closely guarded secrets by the Grand Guilds, hence Fang Hong was unclear about how many tricks this legendary hunter actually had up his sleeve.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have uttered, ”Let’s just fight and see,” those sorts of words.

And so, twenty minutes passed—

The number of undead outside the cave hadn’t seen a significant decrease, but the first problem Fang Hong anticipated, stamina and magic power reduction, had already arrived ahead of schedule. Both Parker and Xiangzi had switched out a set of Magic Storage Crystals, and Combat Artisan, as a major magic power consumer, was even preparing to switch out his second set of Magic Storage Crystals.

On the other hand, the Golden Hand of Tainaric seemed to draw on some unknown energy source, as the magic power from the Sunstone seemed inexhaustible, effortlessly repelling wave after wave of the undead without ever showing any signs of magic depletion.

Then there was the issue of physical fitness. If Combat Artisan didn’t involve himself in melee combat and just controlled the Flexible Construct, physical fitness wasn’t really that big of a problem. At most, it was just that his concentration would decline somewhat faster.

But this was not a problem for Fang Hong at all. He knew early on that he was extraordinarily gifted. Previously, when he trained in Multi-Control at Morning Dawn Star, he would start from dawn till dusk, never knowing the meaning of fatigue, only lamenting the lack of time.

Even Miss Sicape had once said he was brimming with energy, to the point of not seeming like a normal person. In her words—he was like a young calf.

And it seemed Tainaric didn’t have any problems with stamina either.

This Lizardman Prince had apparently not been boasting when he said he was among the best of the young warriors in Andasok. At least up to now, he very much fit the image of an Iron Warrior in the eyes of others.

It appeared he wouldn’t just maintain his current condition for twenty minutes, but even after another half an hour.

Among the group, actually, it was only Xiangzi whose physical fitness declined the fastest. He soon became so out of breath that he had to stop and rest, which was one of the downsides of an Agility System Warrior, moreover, being half a Magic Guided Conductor, he was even more ”delicate and frail.”

Seeing this, Fang Hong had no choice but to let the guy rest for a while to recover his stamina. However, once the latter retreated, Fang Hong felt the pressure on himself suddenly increase.

Among the attacking undead, the number of Crow’s Claw Guards wielding great swords had grown. These level 17 or 18 creatures posed a huge challenge for the Sword Bearer, especially since the designed level of the latter was actually below level 15.

Although the Crow’s Claw Guards were Strength Type Heavy Warriors, which the Agility System’s Flexible Construct counteracted to some extent, once the number of Skeleton Spearmen around them increased, Fang Hong inevitably had to have the Flexible Construct raise its sword to block.

This block made him involuntarily groan in distress. The difference in strength between them was far too great, and upon impact, not only did his Block Value plummet, but if he didn’t allocate extra Magic Power from the Core Crystal to protect the Sword Bearer’s internal core, the sheer force of the impact was enough to cause the Sword Bearer injury.

But once he allocated Magic Power, the already rapidly depleting Magic Storage Crystal emptied in the blink of an eye.

He had spare crystals at hand, but with the fierce onslaught of the undead, where could he find a moment to switch them? Left with no choice, Fang Hong activated the Ritual Effect bestowed upon him by the Lizard People Elders—Magic Conversion.

Honestly speaking, this ability required consuming Life Points, and without a Healer in their team, Healing Potions were equally valuable to them—perhaps even more so than Magic Storage Crystals. Unless absolutely necessary, Fang Hong really didn’t want to use this skill.

But as soon as he opened the Summoners System and activated this Ritual Effect, he abruptly froze.

Because he saw that he hadn’t lost any Life Points at all, and instead, the Magic Power level in the Magic Storage Crystal was slowly rising. He looked up in astonishment, only to see streams of Ether Flow, faint and wispy, gathering from the bones of those he had slain, a light blue glow, dotted like a myriad of streams flowing into the ocean.

Although the Ether Magic Power attached to each skeletal frame was very scant, when the quantities from many skeletons combined, the total amount was substantial.

Fang Hong’s mouth fell open, and he nearly blurted out in exasperation:

”Holy shit!”

”So this thing called ’absorbing life’ isn’t about absorbing one’s own!?”
