Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 592: Chapter 406: If only it had been like this earlier

Its stone claws suddenly reached for Xu Xin’s right hand.

Xu Xin leaped back, avoiding its grasp.

He didn’t launch a counterattack, merely dodging.

Because he knew that in his current state, he was definitely not a match for this pterosaur statue.

He was still wearing the leather armor set for pretending to be Yan Haoming!

He had no time to switch to the purple-grade steel armor!

Fortunately, this pterosaur statue did not intend to harm him.

But if he counterattacked, that might not be the case!

Its previous action made him realize once again that this pterosaur statue, along with these mutant creature statues, were after Xiaohong.

The moment he put away the wristband, it probably sensed Xiaohong within it, which was why it directly reached for the wristband!

Seeing Xu Xin dodge its grab, the pterosaur statue’s claws reached for him again.

But today, his random amplification was reflex amplification!

The moment it moved, he could quickly choose the most suitable evasive action to dodge the claw.

The scene suddenly became a bit comical.

A towering pterosaur statue kept retracting its wings, reaching for a human.

Yet it couldn’t catch him.

Xu Xin dodged, muttering to himself.

If he handed Xiaohong over to this guy, then...

Would it leave on its own?

After several failed attempts to grab, the pterosaur statue let out an annoyed cry, its massive wings swinging towards him directly!

The ten-meter wingspan was too large; even with reflex amplification, Xu Xin couldn’t dodge it.

He could only swing his halberd to block the wing’s attack!

Without the purple-grade steel armor, his ability to use the halberd was greatly diminished.

At the moment the halberd and the wing collided, sparks flew from the friction between the stone wing membrane and the steel purple-grade halberd!

But the pterosaur’s strength was far superior to his, so...

”Smack!”

Xu Xin was directly flung away!

Straight out!

Yes, just like when Zeng Tao was smacked away!

Luckily, the pterosaur statue seemed to be more gentle with him; the force wasn’t as strong as when it smacked Zeng Tao away.

It seemed afraid of hurting him, as the pterosaur statue’s wings didn’t apply much force when they hit him.

After touching him, it started exerting force.

Actually, it didn’t feel like being smacked away, more like...

Being pushed away!

In a flash, his amplified reflexes came into play, and he immediately gripped his halberd tightly, plunging it into the ground below!

”Crunch—”

The halberd carved a deep groove into the ground, and his speed dropped to its lowest before he hit a tree!

”Bang!”

His whole body still hit the tree trunk at a considerable speed.

In an instant, it felt as if his organs were all jumbled together!

The defense of the Lan-marked leather armor was too weak!

The pterosaur statue didn’t rush to follow up but instead, unhurriedly, walked over on all fours.

The wings supported on the ground, step by step, with a large head, looking slightly comical.

Was it... toying with its prey?

Regardless, Xu Xin ducked behind the tree, pulled out the purple-grade steel armor, and quickly put it over the leather armor.

The purple-grade steel armor wasn’t cumbersome and was easy to don.

Earlier, when his purple-grade steel halberd directly collided with the seemingly thin wing membrane of the pterosaur statue, it didn’t leave much of a mark.

At the haft of the halberd, there was no vitality transferred.

This indicated that the strike didn’t harm the pterosaur at all.

The wings were so tough!

However, after thinking it over, Xu Xin understood.

It was a high-level mutant creature.

A part of a mid-level mutant creature would enlarge significantly and could be used to create the strongest weapon of the blue grade.

And although no part of this pterosaur statue had enlarged, its attack part was clearly the wings.

The attack part of a high-level mutant creature, as a material, should be capable of making a pinnacle purple-grade, or even stronger weapon; its inherent strength was almost equivalent to or even stronger than a purple-grade halberd.

So, it was normal that his halberd hastily did not damage the pterosaur statue’s wings.

While contemplating, he began to observe the surrounding environment.

Qin Fu asked him to pay attention to the area 300 meters outside the treehouse.

However, he couldn’t see any danger on his map.

Around him, there were no bright red spots, only some dim red spots of ordinary beast levels.

He still held a bit of skepticism towards Qin Fu’s words.

He didn’t think that under these circumstances, Qin Fu would deceive him, but he didn’t believe Qin Fu’s perception must be correct either.

He had to know, this was within the protective range of the treehouse!

Moreover, it was around Lou Fei’Er’s treehouse, which had the most developed treehouse roots. How could it allow underground monsters to emerge!

Even the pterosaur statue only drilled out by making a hole on the surface.

Before emerging, it couldn’t harm Xu Xin.

After emerging, his map could display its position and strength.

Wait...

Xu Xin’s eyes quivered.

Just now, what did those statues do when they entered the treehouse?

For such a long time, were they...

Doing something to the treehouse?

Hiss...

Before he could think carefully, a sense of danger came from behind the tree.

Xu Xin dove forward, and the pterosaur statue’s wings swung by, easily breaking the tree he had just been hiding behind.

He quickly got up from the ground, and as soon as he stood, the towering pterosaur statue was there, within arm’s reach.

The pterosaur statue didn’t attack him again but tilted its massive head slightly, watching him.

A glint of light flashed in Xu Xin’s eyes.

”Hey, big guy, I know you can understand what I’m saying.” He began with a probing statement.

”——”

The pterosaur statue let out a cry, and the red glint in its eyes flickered.

As expected!

He should have realized it from the start!

In this world, even ordinary wild animals can understand human speech. This pterosaur statue, at least of a high-level mutated creature, should be able to as well!

It even had a brief gesture exchange with Zeng Tao just now.

It was evident that it could communicate with survivors.

The other mid-level mutated creature statues are controlled, and most mutated creatures lack their own consciousness, unable to communicate.

But this pterosaur statue...

Clearly has its own consciousness!

”I know you don’t want to hurt me,” Xu Xin took two steps back slightly and tilted his head, once again probing.

The pterosaur statue, initially intending to grab his wrist again, paused its action upon hearing this and retracted its wings slightly.

The enormous, bell-like stone eyes gazed at him hauntingly.

He guessed it right!

Indeed, this pterosaur statue doesn’t want to harm him!

But why?

Is it because it can’t harm survivors?

Or does it simply not want to hurt him?

Xu Xin tended to believe the latter.

After all, it had just swatted Zeng Tao away with a wing, causing him to crash hard against the treehouse trunk.

If it were an ordinary survivor, that would be instant death.

Yet just now, when the pterosaur statue swatted him away with its wing, it was very gentle.

It seemed to be merely a warning, wanting him not to resist.

So, why?

Can’t figure it out...

If only Keke were here.

If Keke were here, perhaps he could easily communicate with this pterosaur statue.

At this moment, the pterosaur statue slowly approached Xu Xin with its sharp beak.

Xu Xin resisted the urge to dodge.

It clearly bore no malice; otherwise, it wouldn’t be moving so slowly.

The massive head came closer, only centimeters away from him, even bringing a chilling sensation.

This made his heartbeat immediately multiply.

The sharp beak tapped on the bracelet on Xu Xin’s right wrist, then lifted its large head again, looking down at him.

Its gesture finally set Xu Xin at ease.

Its demeanor clearly showed a desire to resolve the issue peacefully with him.

From the looks of it, as long as he handed over the Xiaohong statue, this matter should be settled.

Should he really hand over the Xiaohong statue...

”How have Chang Yin and Xue Lan been lately?” Xu Xin probed once more.

The massive head of the pterosaur statue nodded slightly.

”Phew...” Xu Xin exhaled a breath.

Is it really Chang Yin and Xue Lan?

”Where are they now? Are they beneath that giant pit of the Transmission Array?” Xu Xin immediately pressed.

This time, the pterosaur statue didn’t answer, reaching directly for his bracelet.

”Don’t move! Otherwise, I’ll destroy the bracelet, and you’ll gain nothing!” Xu Xin threatened.

Of course, he couldn’t destroy the bracelet, he was just bluffing.

The pterosaur statue’s actions indeed halted.

But the red glint in its eyes began to blaze more intensely, seemingly displeased by Xu Xin’s words.

Xu Xin pondered.

Xiaohong once said that Chang Yin and Xue Lan were captured, and he was also imprisoned and beaten.

That indicates their situation isn’t good.

More detailed information, he didn’t know.

At that time, it was as if someone didn’t want him to speak, controlling him to stop talking and head towards the iron door in the giant pit.

Since Chang Yin and Xue Lan were captured, whose side is this pterosaur on?

Is it helping Chang Yin and Xue Lan, or is it catching Xiaohong, who escaped?

But...

Xu Xin sighed.

No choice.

He’d better hand over Xiaohong first.

With his current ability, he cannot protect Xiaohong.

Xiaohong has been in a deep sleep with him, and it doesn’t serve any purpose for either side.

”I’ll bring out Xiaohong, you must not attack me,” Xu Xin warned, looking up at the pterosaur statue.

”——” The pterosaur statue let out another cry.

This time, it even stepped back two steps.

...It would have been better to communicate like this from the start.

Xu Xin shook his head helplessly.

However, it did help him a bit; after all, without it, those two wouldn’t have been easily brought into his fold.

One possesses exceptional combat power, and the other is thoroughly familiar with the surroundings, perhaps with other abilities. Cooperating, they would be hard to sneak on.

He rotated the bracelet, releasing the treasure chest creature and Lou Fei’Er.

The moment the treasure chest creature was released, the pterosaur statue lowered its massive head, seemingly curious about this treasure chest.

And Lou Fei’Er was also released at this time.

She ended up face to face with the pterosaur statue.

”Ah!!” Lou Fei’Er sat on the ground in fright, her face pale, ”This... this...”

”Don’t worry, it won’t harm us,” Xu Xin glanced at the pterosaur statue.

The pterosaur statue didn’t even pay attention to Lou Fei’Er; its stone eyes were continuously fixed on the treasure chest creature.

”Help me fetch Xiaohong from the treasure chest creature’s belly,” Xu Xin said.

The treasure chest creature, in chest form, can’t move on its own; what’s inside can only be taken out manually.

”Oh, okay...” Lou Fei’Er took two deep breaths, quickly running to the treasure chest creature.

And the treasure chest creature’s bloody mouth was also closed.

Upon opening it again, it appeared as an actual treasure chest overflowing with gold and jewels.
