My Youth Began With Him

“You’re…”

“… You don’t remember me? I’m your partner.”

“Oh, it’s you.”

Han Yueyao remembered he was the popular guy with lots of female fans; he had recently played the role of a son from a rich family in a big TV series about a story set in the period before 1949 and after the fall of the Qing Dynasty.

Since he wasn’t a celebrity from Imperial Star, Han Yueyao didn’t have a deep impression of him.

“You have a lousy memory.”

“Um…” Han Yueyao was embarrassed.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m having supper,” Han Yueyao replied honestly.

“By yourself?”

“No.”

“With whom?” The fellow was curious.

“With our boss.”

“Su Yu?”

“Right.”

After this, the guy fell silent.

Han Yueyao was about to put away her cellphone when her WeChat beeped; 100,000 yuan was transferred to her.

Undoubtedly, it came from Su Yu.

“Okay. The money is transferred…”

“Why didn’t you give me cash? President Su, do you know how expensive it is to withdraw cash from WeChat?” Han Yueyao gave him a scowl just to tease him.

One second later, she received a red packet from Su Yu.

“I’m full. Don’t forget to pay the bill. Bye.”

Then he left…

With shaking fingers, she opened the red packet and saw there was only…50 yuan inside.

“Su Yu, are you kidding me…?” Han Yueyao was exasperated.

50 yuan was probably only enough to withdraw 100,000 yuan from her WeChat account. The supper was still on her.

This capitalist was very shrewd.

After paying the bill, Han Yueyao went to the bank and withdrew the money she intended to return to Lin Hang. As for the remaining 50,000 yuan, she kept 20,000 for daily expenditure and transferred 30,000 yuan to her mother’s bank account.

After a few minutes, her mother called her. She told her mother that the work here was very good; to award her good performance in the dancing contest, the company gave her a bonus.

Her mother was very pleased.

Before she hung up, Han Yueyao instructed her mother, “Mom, don’t live so frugally. Buy some good food for yourself and Dad… Don’t always eat cabbages and potatoes; they are not nutritious. I can make money now and will make your life better.”

She felt better after chatting with her mother.

Then she took a taxi to Lin Hang’s auto repair shop with the 50,000 yuan.

Before she went, she sent Xiaoxiao a WeChat message and told her about it. She didn’t want to keep it a secret from Xiaoxiao because it wasn’t a big deal anyway.

Xiaoxiao was still working in the company and couldn’t go with her.

When Han Yueyao arrived, Lin Hang was eating supper with another young mechanic in the shop.

The meal wasn’t big, consisting of two boxes of rice, a box of stir-fried potato floss and a bottle of spicy sauce.

“Lin Hang, the money… I’ll return it to you.”

Without a fuss, Han Yueyao took out the money and placed it on the table.

“I told you I don’t want you to return it.” His tone was cold as he continued eating.

“My mom always taught me not to take anything I didn’t earn. We’re friends but we’re not so close that I don’t have to return 50,000 yuan to you. You’re not rich. Take it. Thank you for everything you did for me.”

“So, superstar, you’re popular now, so you’re eager to draw a line with me, the lowly mechanic, right?”

Lin Hang put down the chopsticks and stood up slowly; he stared at Han Yueyao’s eyes.

“It’s fine if you want to think this of me.” Han Yueyao shrugged.

“Is money so important to you? More important than your conscience?” He continued to ask.
