Algorithm system

Coaxing the system to work“System, I need to do a task now.”

That’s right, Lin Yuan was finally going to do the task given by the System.

Besides giving him a bunch of study guidance tasks during his graduate school preparation, the Computing Power System actually only had two main tasks later on.

One was to get into the Computer Science Department of Zijin Aviation School for graduate studies, and the other was to publish an SCI paper.

In other words, Lin Yuan had only completed one main task so far. He was truly like one of those aimless wanderers in online games who don’t do quests.

As for the second task, publishing an SCI paper, Lin Yuan was truly resistant. With his personality, he didn’t particularly like academic work. He had originally intended to piggyback on Gu Xuan’s paper.

He figured he could be a second author and get as much System reward as possible.

But now, the System wouldn’t provide Lin Yuan with a short-term sniping model for Good Group stocks.

Lin Yuan had an idea.

“System, actually, I’m not doing this for money; I just want to take this opportunity to publish an SCI.”

“I’m doing it to complete your task.”

The System finally responded, “Please complete the task according to the task description.”

The task description was concise: Publish an SCI paper, and based on the quality and impact of the paper, as well as the author’s order, a corresponding computing power reward will be given.

Since the System didn’t specify the field or subject of the paper, Lin Yuan’s opportunity to play came.

“I want to try applying AI technology to the stock trading field.”

The System remained silent.

“I think this field is relatively new. Currently, there are no widely mature AI models, and I want to fill this gap in the field.”

The System still remained silent.

“AI research cannot be divorced from practice. Currently, AI has achieved some success in specialized fields, but in extremely complex comprehensive fields like stocks, it has yet to make any significant achievements. System, if you don’t object, I’m really going to start researching.”

The System remained silent.

Alright, silence meant consent. Lin Yuan decided to act.

He was glad he hadn’t been too diligent and rushed to complete the tasks given by the System; lazy people still had their blessings.

Using the task issued by the System to exploit a bug in the System—just thinking about it was exciting.

“System, start training. I’m just waiting for the model you train to write the paper.”

And so, Lin Yuan once again urged the System to run the training, and he fainted again.

Fortunately, this time he had deliberately started the training while sleeping at night. When he woke up, nearly 3 hours had passed, and Xia Ye was sleeping soundly, holding his arm.

If he had recklessly done this during the day, Xia Ye would definitely have dragged him to the hospital.

3 hours.

So, the System’s crash in this situation would last for 3 hours.

“System, didn’t I tell you? I’m doing this for the paper!”

It was past midnight, Lin Yuan lay with his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, muttering to the empty air with his lips.

“Heaven and earth bear witness, I’m really doing this for the paper.”

Lin Yuan intended to publish a paper using the model that was run; he wouldn’t exploit a System bug and then deceive the System.

“Is my sequence wrong? Or is it because I didn’t have any foreplay?”

Lin Yuan suddenly realized—was he not acting convincingly enough?

If the current goal was to publish an SCI, then he should first choose a journal and then do the relevant preliminary preparations. But at the moment, he hadn’t done anything, like a scumbag who immediately wants to take someone to a hotel.

“Alright, I’m going to publish an SCI now.”

Lin Yuan quietly got up, tucked in Xia Ye’s blanket, and then sat down in front of his laptop.

An awkward problem immediately arose—since he had never really paid attention to SCIs, Lin Yuan didn’t even know which were the top SCI journals in the AI field.

So, with the System at his disposal, he could only open a search engine and type into the search bar: “What are the top journals in AI?” (It was that simple and unpretentious.)

Lin Yuan didn’t think much and directly chose the first search result—TPAMI, full name: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.

TPAMI’s current impact factor was 20.8, which looked decent, so he went with it.

Next, he continued to use the search engine to find TPAMI’s submission process.

Lin Yuan quickly found TPAMI’s official website. Then, it was registering an account and downloading the template. Afterward, he thought of a very important question.

Submissions must have an authorship!

Should he use his real identity information? Obviously impractical. There were two reasons.

First, he was currently helping the big shots with phishing OCR. Rashly submitting an SCI under his real identity would clearly raise suspicions of intentionally disrupting things.

Because if you’re preparing to submit to a top SCI journal, how can you still pretend to be a poor guy who needs to secretly mine to earn money? This high-profile operation completely contradicted the role Lin Yuan was playing in the OCR scheme.

This would definitely not be approved by the big shots. And Lin Yuan obviously couldn’t openly go against the big shots, otherwise, how could he stay on their ship? He would surely be kicked into the water.

The second reason was that he couldn’t expose his abilities in this area.

The trouble from his first cheat with the food delivery algorithm was still ongoing. It was still the same saying: the biggest trouble for a cheater is not how to cheat, but how to explain himself.

Only by cheating secretly could he avoid having to explain himself.

Therefore, Lin Yuan decided to create a fake identity for the submission.

So, the question arose: how to create a fake identity?

Lin Yuan didn’t dwell on this problem for long, because he quickly thought of returning to his old tricks—replicating the manual creation of the admission notice.

At this moment, his world became a closed loop.

Heaven helps those who help themselves!!!

As long as you work hard, it might be useful someday, even if your initial direction seems wrong.

Lin Yuan’s previous ill-advised move of manually creating an admission notice was now coming in handy.

So, he fabricated a Qingbei University identity for himself. Of course, everything from his personal avatar to his information and personal resume was manually created by him. It was just a document, and he was familiar with this kind of work.

Lin Yuan didn’t even need to use the Computing Power System to run it, otherwise, exporting the model parameters would take another week of manual transcription.

He pulled out the model he used last time when manually creating the admission notice from his laptop, and then used his own laptop to run a brief training and adjustment specifically for Qingbei University student IDs and academic certificates.

This fine-tuning didn’t take much effort.

As dawn approached, “a new Lin Yuan” was freshly made.

‘You just keep working hard, and leave the rest to time.’ Lin Yuan couldn’t help but give himself a dose of inspiration.

“System, look, I’ve made all the preparations to publish an SCI. Now I’m just waiting for you to run the training.”

Lin Yuan seemed to be saying, “My vinegar is ready; I’m just waiting for your dumplings.”

The System interface quickly displayed a constantly spinning hourglass, still in the classic Windows System style.

It spun and spun like that for two or three minutes.

The System seemed to finally recover from the lag.

“Training started…”

“Loading data…”

Alright, Lin Yuan finally coaxed the System into working for him. He contentedly lay back on the bed, cuddling Xia Ye, and went back to sleep.
