Algorithm system

Low system with low peopleIf the heavens gave Lin Yuan another chance, he would say to that girl… uh, no, that’s not right.

He would absolutely use the most common application of AI in the social sphere—WeChat’s “Voice to Text” feature.

Although the voice message Xia Ye sent was only two seconds long, it contained only two words—Goodnight. If the final particle was also counted, it would barely be three words—Goodnight, oh!

But text obviously cannot express the speaker’s emotions and state of mind at the time.

Xia Ye’s two words were full of deep affection, yet also contained the youthful shyness of someone just starting out at this age, and even carried a hint of maternal glow.

So much so that when Lin Yuan looked at his bed, it was as if Xia Ye was lying there on her side, gently pulling back a corner of the blanket, smiling and softly saying to him, “You’re working too late, come to older sister’s arms and sleep tight.”

Slap~~, Lin Yuan slapped himself.

‘Am I possessed?’

But after tossing and turning in bed for an hour without falling asleep, Lin Yuan turned on the light and sat up abruptly.

He sat by the bed, with only a small desk lamp on.

His reflection was mirrored in the dark window.

One minute passed…

Three minutes passed…

Ten minutes passed…

“I am indeed a vulgar person.” After silently contemplating for ten minutes, using the window as a mirror in the dead of night, Lin Yuan finally blurted out this sentence.

“System, since you can guide me to learn and improve my learning ability, can you also reform my character?”

Lin Yuan painfully ran his hands through his hair, then let his head drop weakly.

“I know it’s perverted to fantasize about a girl late at night just because of a brief greeting from her. But… my mind can’t stop, is there a BUG in me?”

“Am I the lowest-tier cheater in history?”

“What I think about every day is not saving the world, but managing my own small plot of land. I just want a good job, and then find a beautiful wife.”

.

.

“Alright, I admit it. I just want to sleep tight with her. I am shameless…”

Lin Yuan didn’t expect the System to respond to him, because he could only confide in the System. Confiding in the System was like talking to another version of himself.

“However… you, this System, are also quite low-tier.”

“What kind of System is like you? This isn’t allowed, that isn’t allowed.”

“I feel like anyone with less than a bachelor’s degree can’t even operate this broken System of yours.”

“Damn it, I can’t even use some of your computing power to mine. Damn it, why can’t you issue some tasks, like… like running 400 meters for a reward of 10,000 P computing power.”

“Damn it, you’re staring at my lifeblood to exchange for computing power, you must be doing it on purpose. To make me understand that you can’t have your cake and eat it too? If I convert original life essence, and convert it too aggressively, will I become a eunuch in the future?”

“You’re not a System at all, you’re just dangling a carrot in front of me.”

.

.

“Forget it, a low-tier System paired with a low-tier person. Neither of us should look down on the other.”

After a bout of self-deprecating remarks, Lin Yuan finally made peace with himself.

Since he couldn’t sleep, then he wouldn’t sleep.

Lin Yuan planned to deploy the modified algorithm to the company’s virtual machine for testing overnight.

He had been busy all night just to deal with the impact of abnormal situations like the Nine Minutes Sweet Milk Tea Shop on the algorithm. The method of handling it was not complicated—just delete it.

But deleting these abnormal data was not as simple as deleting a file on a computer. It required filtering the collected data.

Professionally speaking, it meant adding a filter to the data preprocessing.

If the data fed into the AI model for training were compared to sand, then this filter would be a sieve, and its purpose would be to sift out large pebbles like those from the Nine Minutes Sweet Milk Tea Shop.

The Nine Minutes Sweet Milk Tea Shop’s stage-by-stage unreasonable data fluctuations caused by Xia Ye starting work at seven o’clock obviously should not be used as training data for the AI. It’s not that the AI couldn’t train on such data, but rather that cost needed to be considered. That is, computing power needed to be considered.

The computing power efficiency ratio required to fit such peculiar data was clearly not cost-effective.

The consumption of computing power is not linear; there is a concept of marginal returns.

Simply put, the data from Nine Minutes Sweet Milk Tea was a “troublemaker.” Given the computing system’s current limited computing power, the reasonable approach was to not deal with such troublemakers for now.

This was also the reason Lin Yuan had just criticized the System.

The only way for this System to consistently obtain computing power was to decompose the few milliliters of DNA that Lin Yuan himself produced periodically.

As soon as he thought of this, Lin Yuan instinctively felt a pain in his lower back.

Therefore, the computing power System deserved the title of “Most Low-Tier System,” without any injustice.

Lin Yuan even thought, “You might as well erase the words ‘System’ from your own panel.”

Complaining aside, things still had to be done.

As the computing power of the computing power System became increasingly strained, Lin Yuan had no choice but to find another way.

It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought of completely replacing the computing power System with real-world computing equipment. “You’re so arrogant, I’m not going to serve you anymore.”

However, after trying it with the company’s A100 computing card, he found that the difference between real-world computing cards and the computing power System was far more than just the “computing power exchange rate” factor.

Or rather, the computing power exchange rate only had “exchange rate” in its name; this exchange rate was reflected in the comparison of computing power consumption between the System and real-world computing equipment when performing the same amount of work.

It’s like this: to do the same amount of work, Little A needs ten minutes, while Little B only needs one minute. Then the work efficiency exchange rate between Little A and Little B is 1:10. But this is based on the premise that both Little A and Little B can do this task.

What if Little A can’t do this task? Then there’s no comparison. Because Little A simply won’t be able to finish it in the end. Theoretically, the work efficiency exchange rate between the two would be 1:infinity.

Applied to the AI model level.

That is, without the assistance of the computing power System, if there are problems at the model construction level itself, then you cannot expect real-world computing equipment to correct them. Its training process is like a blind snake, slithering aimlessly across the field.

The errors produced during its training fluctuate wildly, and eventually, the entire training falls into oscillation. Just like Big A shares when they are affected by the slightest disturbance.

Fortunately, Lin Yuan still found a solution—separation of duties.

He stripped away the purely computational tasks and handed them over to real-world computing equipment. And when he encountered a bottleneck, he would throw the intermediate state model back to the computing power System.

The main idea was that the computing power System would handle the tough problems, while real-world computing equipment would handle the easy ones.

This also deepened Lin Yuan’s understanding of the computing power System.

“Other people’s Systems are responsible for doing the work, and the host only needs to show off. But you, my friend, you are constantly testing my ability to apply what I’ve learned flexibly.”

Unlike Lin Yuan’s sparks of thought, Xia Ye on the other side was sleeping soundly, listening to the wind and rain.

Under the faint light of the air conditioner’s indicator lamp in the small room, Xia Ye’s face carried a slight smile, and a not-so-narrow trail of drool hung from the corner of her mouth.

It was just that the small bed where the two of them lived was clearly too crowded.
