Algorithm system

Difficulty increased, rewards doubled“I’ll grudgingly give him a 60.”

“60? You’re giving him a 60 for this? You… you all talk about how talent is important and how to attract talent all day long. But when talent is right in front of you, you just give him a passing grade. A bunch of hypocrites.”

“I’m just following the rules and regulations. The practical assessment focuses on hands-on ability, and the interview focuses on the undergraduate academic record. His undergraduate record is really unremarkable.”

“You’re ruthless! You give him a 60. Even if I throw away my old face and give him a perfect 100, at a 50% weighting, his total score would only be 80.”

Lin Yuan looked at Professor Zhang’s expression, thinking that 80 points was a very dangerous score.

Professor Zhang calmed down for a moment, then solemnly said, “Can we discuss this?”

Dean Li was unmoved, “There’s nothing to discuss. Giving him a 60 has already gone against my initial intention.”

To prevent the situation from becoming too awkward, Dean Li continued, “I’ll recommend him for an interview opportunity at the best internet company in Zijin City. If he can achieve results, I will personally give him a perfect score a year later.”

Professor Zhang was silent for a while, then finally relented, “Alright. Young man, even if I give you a perfect score, you might not necessarily be admitted. For the sake of your future, why not accept this guy’s proposal? Work for a year outside first, you are still young, and you have a long future ahead. After all, the school also has its rules, so just consider it a life lesson.”

Lin Yuan felt much more relieved when he heard “the best internet company in Zijin City’s interview opportunity”. This trip wasn’t a total loss. Since things had come to this, it was better to quit while he was ahead.

Suddenly, the computing power system’s panel automatically popped up.

“Detection: Task difficulty increased. Completion reward doubled.”

Before Lin Yuan could think further, another line of text appeared on the panel.

“Additional condition restriction: Only valid for 2024 admissions.”

Alright. The good news was that the task reward was doubled, and the bad news was that the task had to be completed this year.

Doubled.

Lin Yuan ultimately couldn’t resist the temptation of computing power.

What is computing power? It is the fuel for the birth of ChatGPT, the blood of the 21st-century information industry.

It can be used to mine bitcoin, it is real wealth.

And what I, Lin Yuan, want most right now is: money. I want to make money.

Lin Yuan pondered for a moment, then stood up, “I know you teachers have doubts. In fact, in the year after graduation, I experienced a lot.

I used to be addicted to games. I muddled through high school, then college, relying on my good natural talent, I barely studied but still got into a second-tier university. But it wasn’t until I entered society that I realized how shallow I was.

After repeatedly hitting walls in job hunting, I had no choice but to deliver food.”

Professor Zhang was stunned, “What? You deliver food?” A person who, in his opinion, should have been developing food delivery software, was now delivering food. This was a bit... In short, it was hard not to be surprised.

“That’s right. Look.” Lin Yuan pulled out his Haotuan Waimai delivery riders app.

“In the past six months, I’ve worked hard. Besides studying, I delivered food. It was all to thoroughly correct my past mistakes and turn over a new leaf. Now I deeply understand the preciousness of time, and I earnestly ask all of you teachers to give me a chance.”

Professor Zhang actually leaned in to look at Lin Yuan’s phone.

“Over three thousand orders, it’s really true.

It makes sense now that he didn’t study well but still managed to get into a second-tier university.”

Professor Zhang then turned to Dean Li and said, “Old Li, does that make sense now?”

Dean Li was somewhat moved by Lin Yuan’s words just now, and said with a hint of emotion, “The fact that you realized this is more important than successfully enrolling today. Life is still long...”

Lin Yuan cursed inwardly, ’I want the computing power reward.’

“The school has its regulations. Although your experience is inspiring, it still cannot change the fact that your undergraduate academic record is thin. I will specifically emphasize this experience of yours when I recommend you.”

Professor Zhang couldn’t take it anymore, “I’m going to give him extra points. Inspiring extra points.”

Dean Li suddenly stood up, “The school doesn’t have this rule, don’t mess around.”

“Who said there’s no such rule? It’s just a name, that’s all. The year before last, Director Wang’s family’s...”

“Old Zhang!” Dean Li suddenly raised his voice.

Professor Zhang immediately chose to shut up.

Dean Li then slowly began, “Unless he has some impressive performance right now. Otherwise, don’t bother. Even if I want to help, I need a plausible explanation to satisfy the public, don’t I?”

Dean Li used a tactic of feigned retreat, hoping to end the interview here.

Professor Zhang sighed, “Alright...”

“Teachers...” Unexpectedly, the usually silent Lin Yuan spoke up, “I’d like to ask, what constitutes an impressive performance?”

Professor Zhang said testily, “He’s deliberately making things difficult for you. Unless your model training can achieve an accuracy far exceeding this batch of candidates today, it must be an order of magnitude ahead. Only then can I shut his mouth and admit you exceptionally.”

“Hey~~,” Dean Li argued, “It’s not about shutting my mouth.”

Professor Zhang added, “Shutting the mouths of people like you.”

Lin Yuan cautiously asked, “An order of magnitude higher accuracy? Is 10 times enough?”

“Five times is enough. But the exam is already over now. I’ve seen your model training results, and while they’re pretty good, they’re only at the level of being consistently in the top ten today.”

In fact, Lin Yuan’s code didn’t appear particularly stunning, but merely reached the level an excellent student should have.

Lin Yuan had actually thought of a solution long ago, which was to use his computing power system to assist in calculations.

But the problem was, his brain couldn’t be connected to a laptop to output results with one click. Moreover, if the model training results suddenly increased by an order of magnitude, there would be no way to explain it away.

Fortunately, Lin Yuan reacted quickly.

“Actually, I could have used more complex models and deeper neural networks. But this laptop of mine is really too old, it limited my performance.”

This antique T440 finally assisted him once.

Hey, actually my skill level is higher than what I showed, it’s just limited by my laptop.

“Can I borrow a machine?”

Professor Zhang quickly assisted, “His laptop is indeed too old, I can vouch for that.”

Dean Li thought for a moment, “Alright then. Little Liu, go find him a machine.”

The young examiner named Liu pointed to his own laptop, “I bought this one a few years ago, I don’t know if the 2060 graphics card is good enough.”

Lin Yuan said cheerfully, “It’s enough. Do you have a Python environment and PyCharm on your laptop?”

“Of course, the full set of genuine JetBrains All Products Pack.”

This was the first time Lin Yuan had seen someone purchase the full set of genuine JetBrains All Products Pack in real life.

’Hmm, when I have money, I will definitely buy a set to fulfill my vow.’

Lin Yuan took the laptop handed to him by Teacher Liu, then entered a state of complete concentration.
