Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

156: Chapter 120: Unusual Rat Movements, Frantic Bow Making [Large Chapter] 156: Chapter 120: Unusual Rat Movements, Frantic Bow Making [Large Chapter] In the Ice Abyss World, the average lifespan of ordinary people is just over forty.

Those in the Logging Realm can live a bit longer, but generally not beyond fifty;

The lifespan in the Earth-digging Realm, inferred from Luo Ming’s father, Luo Feng, is about sixty, but the exact limit is unknown.

If calculated by the common logic of the previous life, people with such strong basic strength and physical fitness, their average lifespan should not be this short.

But here, of course, is the Ice Abyss World.

Xia Hong is only eighteen this year.

Although he doesn’t yet have lifespan anxiety, who wouldn’t want to live longer?

He had carefully thought about this issue before.

In his opinion, the main reasons for the short lifespan of humans in the Ice Abyss World are three:

First, the extremely cold climate;

Second, the dim environment;

Third, the inherently nocturnal activity pattern of humans, which defies common sense, as well as severely abnormal sleep habits.

The damage of the extremely cold climate to the human body is self-evident; merely the prolonged absence of sunlight can significantly impact lifespan;

As for the third point, it’s not that humans want this, but they have no choice.

The sun in the Ice Abyss World emits extremely cold light.

Xia Hong personally experienced it once when the Demon Sheep attacked on the dirt slope.

After breaking through to the Earth-digging Realm, he tried once again, and it was the same.

Those not yet at the Cold Resistance Level cannot see the light at all.

Unable to see the light, they can only choose to be active at night.

Moreover, the daytime in the Ice Abyss World lasts only four hours.

Most of the day is night.

According to Xia Hong’s observations, the vast majority of people in the camp sleep about four hours a day in daylight.

They already can’t see the light, their routines are inverted, and their sleep time is severely insufficient.

It’s only natural that the average lifespan is not high.

Xia Hong cannot solve the problems of light exposure and inverted routines, including extending sleep time.

After everyone has become accustomed to four hours of sleep, it’s challenging for him to correct it.

So far, what Xia Hong can do and has done is to order children under six in the camp to sleep two more hours each day.

Even so, many children still can’t accept it.

As soon as it gets dark, they naturally wake up and then can’t fall back asleep.

If children are like this, there’s no need to mention adults.

A longstanding collective habit, handed down for years, is hard to alter in a short time, and Xia Hong understands this well.

It’s akin to the habit formed by humans in the previous life, working from sunrise to sunset; only the people in the Ice Abyss World just happen to be the opposite.

If it can’t be changed in a short time, then it can only be slowly influenced and altered over time.

Of course, the most thorough way to solve the short lifespan problem is cultivation.

As basic strength increases, the body constitution also leaps continuously.

This is the common understanding of everyone, including Xia Hong, and it is the main reason for their obsession with cultivation and pursuit of strength.

A body that grows stronger is bound to have a longer lifespan.

The threat of the Rodent swarm is imminent, and the progress of bow making must be accelerated.

In the past ten days, including Xia Hong, seven people in the Earth-digging Realm have basically slept only two hours a day.

This is also why iron ore mining couldn’t keep up with the bow-making progress.

Clang…

Clang…

Clang…

Clang…

In the mine, the sounds of chiseling by seven people have been ringing from dawn to the late night of the next day.

Xia Hong and the others continued mining for fifteen hours before finally stopping.

Correspondingly, there is a pile of iron ore at each person’s feet.

Xia Hong weighed his pile, then looked at the others.

“Report how many pounds you’ve mined, give an approximate number!”

Xia Chuan: “I have about 520 pounds here.”

Luo Yuan: “490.”

Zhao Long: “130.”

Zhao Hu: “I had some before, adding up to a total of 450.”

Zhao Bao: “I also had some before, adding up to a total of 430.”

Yuan Cheng: “Same as them, adding up to a total of 470.”

The efficiency of mining isn’t just affected by tools but also by strength.

The greater the basic strength, the faster the mining progress naturally becomes.

Before we four came to the mine, the Chewing Teeth Chisels were used by Zhao Hu and the other two.

In their subsequent mining, they used the Sheep Horn Chisel and estimated to have mined just over a hundred pounds, but adding the stockpiled ones, they had over four hundred pounds each.

After he entered with Xia Chuan and the other two, to enhance mining speed, he took one of the Chewing Teeth Chisels, and the remaining two were used by Xia Chuan and Luo Yuan, so their mining amounts are relatively high.

Zhao Long has been using the Sheep Horn Chisel, so his amount is the least.

“How much did you mine, leader?”

When Luo Yuan asked, the other five all turned to look at the pile of iron ore beside Xia Hong’s feet, and their eyes immediately showed astonishment.

“About 840 on my side.”

Each piece of iron ore weighs about forty to fifty pounds, so seeing that pile, everyone had a rough idea, but hearing Xia Hong report 840 pounds, they couldn’t help but marvel at Xia Hong’s high mining efficiency.

“My basic strength is about twice yours, so my mining efficiency is naturally faster.

When your basic strength catches up with mine, you can do it too.”

Xia Hong didn’t make a big deal of it.

After fifteen continuous hours of mining, the seven of them had basically reached their limit, and a yield of over 3300 pounds was considered lucky.

“We can now make eleven bows.

Let’s take a break.

There are still nine hours until dawn, so let’s all go back to rest for four hours, then go to the northern slope of the mountain wall.

We still have to hunt Jiao tonight; we’re out of spinal cords!”
