The Evolution Of A Goblin To The Peak

Chapter 1231: Fighting the Calamity: Ending of the Vajra Clan

Souta already knew how this would end.

Saya had told him thatonly she would survive this calamity.

The Vajra Race would fall.

Every last one of them.

Their warriors.

Their cities.

Even their Gods.

Saya would lose everything.

Souta watched in silence as she fought her way through the carnage, driven by nothing but the instinct to survive. She unleashed everything she had without restraint, spells tearing through the battlefield, blades cleaving apart dark apparitions by the dozens. She did not hesitate. She did not hold back.

Because there was no one left to save.

High above, the God-rank beings of the Vajra Clan clashed with the strongest of the enemy forces. Divine authorities collided, tearing the sky apart. Yet beneath them, the enemies below God-rank were countless, their numbers so vast they blotted out the land itself.

An ocean of abominations.

No reinforcements came.

Souta didn’t know the full reason, but he could guess. The other races and nations had likely been pinned down elsewhere. Their lands besieged, their defenses shattered, their gods dragged into their own wars.

That had to be the case.

The scale of this conflict surpassed anything recorded in history. It wasn’t a single war. It was a cosmic catastrophe. Countless worlds were burning, and gods across existence had been forced onto the battlefield.

Or so Souta believed.

From every direction, enemies poured toward the Vajra Clan. Their people answered with desperate fury, incantations screamed into the void, combat arts unleashed until bodies broke. Explosions thundered endlessly as the land collapsed, molten fire, raging storms, and frozen shards of ice tearing through the sky.

Yet no matter how many millions were slain, it was never enough.

For every enemy that fell, ten more surged forward.

Like a tide that could not be stemmed.

Gradually, inevitably, the ranks of the Vajra Clan began to thin.

And with each fallen warrior, the end drew closer.

Children wailed in terror while the elderly clutched them close, whispering hollow words of comfort despite the fear etched deep into their own faces. Everyone understood the truth.

Their end was near.

And no one was coming to save them.

Some were not even granted the mercy of clarity. Touched by the enemy’s influence, their eyes dulled, their wills eroded, and they turned on their own kin—screaming, weeping, killing without understanding why.

It was not merely a battlefield anymore.

It was a slaughter.

Boom!!

The earth convulsed violently, ripping Souta’s attention away.

In the distance, Saya was locked in combat with the dark apparitions, several of them each rivaling a Hero-rank expert. Shockwaves tore through the land as blades and spells collided, the terrain reduced to rubble and scorched craters.

The fight was savage.

Yet compared to the war raging above, beyond the colossal spatial rift where gods clashed and reality itself was being torn apart, it was pitifully small.

Even so, it took several agonizing minutes before Saya finally cut them down.

She hovered in the air, chest heaving, then slowly turned toward the city.

Above it, black clouds hung low and oppressive, pouring viscous, tar-like liquid that steamed as it struck the ground. Smoke rose from shattered buildings as runes and defensive formations flickered weakly, dimming further with every explosion that rocked the streets.

”I...”

Saya clenched her teeth until blood stained her lips.

Suddenly,

”Saya! Over here! The enemies are closing in!”

The voice came from behind her.

Her breath caught.

Saya spun around and saw her mother.

”Mother!” She rushed forward, her heart pounding and then froze.

Her mother’s body was battered and broken, wounds covering her from head to toe, blood soaking into her torn clothes.

”Mother! What happened to you?!” Saya cried, reaching out as dread twisted her chest.

”I just fought off some of our enemies,” her mother said softly. ”It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re safe.”

She exhaled in relief after quickly checking Saya for injuries, her trembling hands betraying the fear she was trying to hide.

”Don’t worry,” Saya replied, forcing a smile. ”My master carved a path for me to escape the city.”

”Then we must go now,” her mother urged. ”Your father and the others are waiting.”

Mother and daughter burst into motion, dashing through the forest at blinding speed. Shockwaves rippled outward with every step, snapping branches and gouging the earth. Dark apparitions emerged from the shadows, but the two cut them down without slowing.

Before long, they broke into a clearing.

Five figures were locked in battle against a swarm of dark apparitions.

Saya recognized them instantly.

Her family.

Her grandfather stood at the forefront, his presence commanding even amid the chaos. And at his side were four others. Her father, her uncles, and her aunt fighting back to back, their movements precise despite exhaustion and injury.

”Father!!”

Saya shouted as she surged forward.

Her father turned at the sound of her voice. His eyes widened as he saw his daughter racing toward them, her mother close behind.

”Saya is here!” the grandfather roared. ”Begin it now!”

Before Saya could ask what he meant, every one of them released their power at once.

A torrent of energy erupted skyward.

The ground buckled. The air screamed. Trees were ripped from the earth and hurled aside as a violent gale tore through the clearing, flattening everything in its path.

Boom!!

The shockwave slammed into Saya, forcing her to halt midair.

”What...? What’s happening?!” she cried, confusion and dread surging through her.

The grandfather said nothing. Saya’s mother and father also remained silent as they stood at the front, their bodies forming a final barrier against the surging tide of dark apparitions.

In truth, the Vajra Race was beyond saving and everyone knew it.

Even after fleeing the city, hundreds of millions of dark apparitions still surrounded them, an endless black sea pressing in from all sides. Among those countless horrors were more than a hundred thousand whose strength rivaled experts of the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and even Tenth Shackle Realm.

It was overwhelming.

The disparity in numbers was as vast as heaven and earth.

There was no hope.

Ohm!!

A sudden field of energy bloomed around Saya, enclosing her completely.

”What is this?! What are you doing? Mother! Father! Grandpa!” Saya shouted, panic clawing at her chest. A suffocating sense of dread washed over her, sending chills down her spine.

Her mother turned back, her expression gentle despite the chaos behind her.

”You are the hope of the Vajra Race,” she said softly. ”Your master prepared this formation... and even lent us a universal-grade artifact.”

A faint smile curved her lips as she continued, her voice filled with warmth and sorrow.

”I love you, Saya. You are my precious daughter, my greatest treasure.”

”What are you saying, Mom?!” Saya screamed. She slammed her fists against the energy barrier, again and again, but it didn’t even ripple.

Desperate, she turned to her grandfather.

”Grandpa! Please, get me out of here!”

Her voice trembled violently. Tears welled in her eyes, blurring her vision as fear and despair threatened to swallow her whole.

Her grandfather finally turned to look at her. His gaze was steady, devoid of hesitation.

”It’s useless,” he said calmly. ”We, no, the higher-ups have already decided. You will be removed from this battle. There are others who will be sent away as well. Find them in the future.”

”Why?!” Saya cried out. ”This can’t be...!!”

She bit down hard on her lip, drawing blood as her hands began to tremble uncontrollably.

At that moment, her father turned around. His eyes were firm, yet filled with a deep, aching tenderness.

”We entrust the hope of our race to you,” he said. ”Live on, Saya. I am proud of you. If my life can be exchanged for yours... then it is more than worth it.”

”I... I don’t want this...”

Saya collapsed to her knees, her strength leaving her as tears streamed freely down her face.

”I know,” her father said softly. ”You are a kind child. I’m sorry... sorry for forcing the weight of our entire race onto your shoulders.”

Ohm!!

The energy surrounding them surged violently, growing denser and more terrifying by the second. Within a radius of five kilometers, every dark apparition was instantly erased, reduced to nothingness.

The air cracked apart.

From the fractures, thick dream fog poured out like a raging flood.

”Goodbye, Saya!”

”Take care!”

”I love you!”

Their voices reached her ears just before her vision was swallowed by a blinding white light.

Whoosh!!

”Saya survived because of her people,” Souta muttered quietly. ”They gave everything they had to let her escape.”

He turned his head toward the distance.

The sky was still choked with dark clouds.

High above, a massive spatial rift tore through the heavens, endlessly pouring down viscous black liquid.

Souta looked back at Saya.

This Chapter of her life was nothing but pain and suffering.

Even after her escape, the enemies continued to hunt her relentlessly. Though the Vajra Clan had fallen, the war did not end. It continued to spread, with no sign of ever stopping.

Souta didn’t know exactly how everything unfolded but from the clues and scattered accounts, one truth was clear.

The Vajra Race had been completely annihilated.

The other survivors had all perished to unknown causes.

Only Saya remained.

That’s right, Saya survived until the very end of that seemingly endless, brutal war, a conflict that spanned everything that existed.
