Chapter 843: Chapter 669: Failing to Eat Gu? Let’s Go Treasure Hunting!

“Oh my! Are we fortunate enough to see the Sovereign’s dragon visage? Godfather… so exciting!”

“But what’s going on with these noble court officials? Why are they hiding their life-bound Gu in the homes of commoners? And in such filthy, messy places too?” A commoner quizzically asked, observing the flustered, panicking nobles.

An older court official passing by turned back indignantly upon hearing this.

Because they had heard that the noble Sovereign had quite the obsession with cleanliness, the filthier the place, the better it would protect their life-bound Gu!

Thinking this, the older court official was filled with grief and anger, quickly continuing his search for a place!

“Haven’t you heard? Our Sovereign’s power is so immense that common Gu insects can’t withstand their might. They don’t even have the chance to appear before the Sovereign, so these officials must be afraid their Gu insects might offend the dragon’s majesty, hence they’ve placed them early.” Another commoner stated with a know-it-all attitude.

Just at this moment, a young court official passing down the street stumbled, almost falling to the ground.

Nonsense! It’s all nonsense! They are not scared of the Sovereign’s majesty, they are clearly terrified of the Sovereign’s domineering power, and the Sovereign’s pots and pans!

Heavens, what a beautiful misunderstanding that cannot be expressed to others!

The young court official, staggering, fled from these whispering commoners.

Then the know-it-all commoner pointed at her back as she walked away, saying, “See, I was right. That official gave me a deep look of praise just now, so knowledgeable about past and present, haha…”

The surrounding commoners nodded in agreement, one of them added, “So saying, the Sovereign’s power is indeed unfathomable. With this new Emperor in our Southern Country, prosperity will thrive for a thousand years!”

“Exactly, exactly!”

“I think so too!”

“…”

Far away, overhearing the conversation behind her, the young female official couldn’t hold back anymore and finally fell to the ground, crying!

What on earth is all this!

Why is being a official so hard? She wants to go home and plant sweet potatoes!

The entire city was in chaos. Numerous noble court officials, along with their Gu insects, dashed wildly through the streets and alleys, searching for hiding places. Yet a mother and her child appeared on the main street, dragging a large bundle, looking blankly at the elegantly dressed, silver-laden fleeing figures.

“Mine! Mine! All mine!” The little dumpling watched a plump white Tiger Fish Gu cross in front of him, chased it for a few steps without catching it, then stomped and shouted, “My fish soup! How stingy, what would it cost to give me a piece of Tiger Fish meat for soup? Waa… my fish soup…”

Passersby were shocked upon hearing this and glanced sideways.

“Whose child is that, gone mad? Wanting to drink Tiger Fish soup?”

“Isn’t that the child’s mother? Control your child, stop wishing for impossible things!”

“Exactly! That’s Gu! In the Southern Border consuming Gu is disrespecting the gods! It’s blasphemous to both humans and deities!”

“Control your child!”

“…”

Facing the uproar from the surrounding commoners, Gu Changsheng quickly jumped away from the little dumpling, putting some distance and shaking her head to explain to the crowd, “This is not my child! How could someone as young and beautiful as me have a child this big? I was just passing by and don’t know this crazy little glutton!”

The crowd glanced at her, nodded.

Indeed young and beautiful, with a kind face, not the type for lying.

The little dumpling looked at his mother with disdain, lips twitching, wanting to say something but stopped.

But Gu Changsheng, taking advantage of the ongoing chatter, dragged him away, disappearing down the street in a flash.

“Mom, you’re shameless! How can you say you’re young and beautiful!” The little dumpling expressed his frustration that his mother claimed he wasn’t her child, which was unbearable!

“Bang!”

A small thump landed on his forehead again, as Gu Changsheng said, “Hopeless, letting a bowl of Tiger Fish soup pacify you? At least aim for fish bone soup, it’s richer!”

“Uh…” The little dumpling was speechless.

Gu Changsheng knocked on her little dumpling’s head, “Now we’re in trouble! All because of you, causing such a commotion, and now we have to carry these pots and pans.”

“Didn’t Mom say these things were handy?” The little dumpling argued.

“But these things are too obvious! Now it’s clear we came down the mountain just for food, and others have hidden their Gu insects first, making it impossible to have a stew!”

“Then what do we do?” The little dumpling was unhappy that the food was gone, “Are we just going back to the mountain? There are still several days before Yuan Bao wakes up, and we can’t return to Liuzhou. It’s so boring, nothing to do! I don’t want to train, study, or learn to raise insects… waa…”

Gu Changsheng pondered while resting her chin on her hand, with a mischievous glint in her eye, she signaled her son to hide the bundle, then raising an eyebrow she said, “Son, since we’re already down the mountain, we can’t just leave empty-handed, right?”

“Mmm hmm.” The little dumpling nodded.

“Since the Gu insects have been hidden, we can’t turn the Southern Country City upside down, that would damage the prestige of us two. So, how about we go and visit all the court officials’ homes for a little social call?” Gu Changsheng squinted with a smile.

“Huh?” The little meat bun was puzzled.

Gu Changsheng continued in a good mood, “I heard that these ministers all come from noble families and have some incredible treasures in their homes…”

The little meat bun’s eyes sparkled as he heard this, grinning from ear to ear.

“Let’s go, my son, we’re going treasure hunting!” Gu Changsheng picked up his son and headed energetically towards a grand mansion.

“Okay, okay!” The little meat bun clapped his hands, extremely happy. He loved treasures the most.

A quarter of an hour later, Gu Changsheng appeared in the main hall of the Loh Qi Residence holding his little meat bun.

As the Clan Leader of the Loh Qi family, Loh Qihong, over sixty and a member of the Imperial Court, heard of a visitor asking for her by name, she immediately excused herself from her busy schedule to greet them in the main hall!

After all, anyone who could call her by name had to be an old acquaintance, and even amidst her current busy and anxious state, she had to meet them.

Entering the hall, Loh Qihong took one glance and immediately knelt down, trembling and speechless!

Gu Changsheng looked at the kneeling old female official and burst into laughter. Wasn’t this the same person who would rather return home to plant trees than assist her, almost blocking her to death?

“Beloved Minister Loh Qi, long time no see, I’ve missed you so!” Gu Changsheng smiled.

“Your Highness… this old minister has missed Your Highness too…” Upon hearing this, Loh Qihong’s previously spirited demeanor instantly turned listless.

“Nonsense! If you really missed me, why is it that I never see you at the morning audience for greetings?” Gu Changsheng, without missing a beat, exposed her lie without any merit of consideration.

The multitude of house servants of the Loh Qi family was shocked upon hearing this, Godfather, this visitor…

This visitor… turns out to be the current Sovereign Highness?

Scatteredly, yet all at once, they knelt down in unison!

“Your Highness, this old minister, being a court official, is in charge of foreign affairs and was busy preparing for Your Highness’ envoy mission to the Zhou Dynasty, intending to visit the Heavenly Palace once everything is arranged…” Loh Qihong explained with a face full of cold sweat.

“Enough! There’s no need for explanations!” Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng raised a hand to cut off Loh Qihong’s unfinished words.

Loh Qihong flinched upon hearing this, sneaked a glance, and seeing no bundle rumored to contain pots and pans, immediately calmed her apprehensive heart. At least, the few Gu she hadn’t had time to hide were spared this time!

“Beloved Minister Loh Qi, I’ve heard that you have some expertise in calligraphy, why don’t you show me and broaden my horizons?” Gu Changsheng spoke earnestly with a sincere expression.

At the mention of calligraphy, Loh Qihong’s aged face instantly lit up. Southern Border knew she was obsessed with calligraphy, and now recognized by the Sovereign, she felt a bit euphoric. She immediately led Gu Changsheng and his son to the study’s sanctuary.

In the study, Gu Changsheng highly praised Loh Qihong’s calligraphy, prompting Loh Qihong to bring out all her treasured rare copies, introducing them to her sovereign as if presenting a catalog of family heirlooms.

“Indeed, this tracing copy is good!” As Loh Qihong rambled on with her introductions, Gu Changsheng, with a face full of learning, handed one tracing copy to the little meat bun for examination.

The little meat bun examined it seriously, and seeing the Little Highness so studious, Loh Qihong praised once again.

“Indeed, this rare copy is scarce in the world, Yaoyao my son, you should study it carefully.” Gu Changsheng placed another original handwritten by an ancestor into the little meat bun’s arms.

Loh Qihong agreed fervently.

After several rounds of this, all of Loh Qihong’s treasured collections ended up in the little meat bun’s arms, piled up into a tall heap.

Gu Changsheng, very satisfied, waved his sleeve subtly and left with the little meat bun in his arms.

Loh Qihong knelt on the ground to see them off, and only after a long time did she lift her head, stammering while pointing at the retreating figures, “My… my collection… is still in the Little Highness’s arms!”

Just as Loh Qihong was overwhelmed with sorrow, Gu Changsheng returned holding the little meat bun.

Loh Qihong, seeing this, was immediately filled with boundless hope in her old eyes. She just knew it, surely the Sovereign Highness had forgotten about this matter, how could the Sovereign Highness possibly plunder her collection?

“Beloved Minister Loh Qi, for such a rare piece, my son is unable to comprehend it fully for now, so I’ll borrow it for a while!” Gu Changsheng spoke with an innocent look.

Loh Qihong was startled upon hearing this and her face instantly turned pale.

Borrow? It would be much clearer if you straight up said it was robbery! Is there really a time when a loan gets returned?

Loh Qihong wanted to die!

Yet Gu Changsheng spoke again, “Beloved Minister Loh Qi, fun enjoyed alone is not as great as shared fun. I’m inclined to let some other old ministers share in this experience with you, so I’d appreciate it if you kept this to yourself.”

Leaving behind these words, Gu Changsheng departed with his little meat bun and a pile of rare treasures, happily aiming for the next target.

Leaving Loh Qihong kneeling there, devastated, pounding the ground with her hands, almost grieving to the point of banging her head on a wall!

“My collection! My rare copies! A lifetime of effort!” Loh Qihong cried bitterly, knowing in her heart, these collections are most likely like a meat bun thrown at a dog, never to return!
