Chapter 815: Chapter 644: The Dark Night Army’s Bloody Stand at Shanmen City

With merely tens of thousands, they faced the elite million troops of Southern Chen.

If it were the Dark Night Army in its prime, perhaps there would be a chance for a battle. But now, as they’ve been resisting the Southern Chen troops all the way and retreating, the ammunition had long been exhausted, forcing them to the edge of Dayao Mountain, at Shanmen City.

Once Shanmen City falls, the Southern Chen troops could drive straight into the Southern Border.

And their lord is currently in the Southern Border!

Blood!

Has stained the sun and moon of Shanmen City red.

This battle, from the break of dawn, waged until the moon hung in the western sky, the scarlet blood painted the clouds on the horizon red...

”Kill! Hold them for one more day for her, even if I die, I can face her without guilt!” The elegant robe could no longer be distinguished in color, the long black hair was sticky, clumped together with blood, Borjigin Nian once again lifted the long whip, and charged forward.

”Princess, retreat!” A row of over ten blood-soaked women blocked in front of her, waving short daggers in hand, slaying Southern Chen soldiers who were attacking the city gate. The leading woman, with bloodshot eyes, had a face that could still be vaguely made out; it was Jin Ling, who once punched Zhou Zongbao twice. Though still slender as in the past, her delicate body was filled with an unstoppable decisiveness to kill. Wielding her dagger once more, she slew the oncoming enemy forces. Jin Ling turned back, roaring at Borjigin Nian, ”Princess, retreat! You are the life and death bond of the lord, you cannot be buried in this battle, retreat! When the lord returns, please come back to bury us sisters, and lay our bones beside the ancestral tomb of Madam Gu in Liuzhou!”

”Princess, retreat! We are still waiting for you to collect our bodies!”

”Princess, retreat!”

The other female soldiers advised in unison.

This battle, if continued, was destined to be a dead-end. The Dark Night Army, regardless of being male or female, was prepared to die gloriously on the battlefield.

The lord once said, a soldier’s greatest honor and best end are to die wrapped in horse skin!

As former courtesans, to die honorably was already the greatest benevolence bestowed by the heavens!

Xia Ruyan and the old sorcerer had already been ordered to retreat by Borjigin Nian. Now, guarding Shanmen City was left to her, Borjigin Nian, and the Dark Night Army!

In the pitch black before dawn, one could not see one’s fingers, only the glimmer of battle fires and the splatter of blood.

Borjigin Nian looked up at the Dark Night Army, fighting fiercely with the Southern Chen troops, wiped the blood from her eyes and smiled slightly, ”I, Borjigin Nian, born with noble princely status, have roamed freely, unrestrained my entire life. To be able to die in such a battle, I have no regrets in this life! Warriors, let many Southern Chen troops accompany us to the Yellow Springs on this lonely journey!”

After speaking, Borjigin Nian did not spare a glance at the ladies of the female army before her, turning once more to charge into the encircling enemy.

The battle of Shanmen City had already lasted three days, the million-strong army had been worn down to half a million by them.

Before them, was a true fight to the death, however much they could wear them down was however much they achieved!

Blood, endless blood, painted the rising evening clouds red.

After a night of fierce combat, even the Dark Night Army was somewhat exhausted. Dozens of their own were injured, yet they simply bound their wounds with their bandages and rejoined the fray!

”Ten thousand! Not a loss! Bring it on!”

Against the rising sun, Borjigin Nian wiped the blood, estimating the enemy casualties, and shouted once more, charging in!

”Twenty thousand! A profit! Continue!”

As the sun rose, Borjigin Nian again assessed the battle spoils, looking at the seemingly endless enemy troops and tied her long whip onto her hand!

”Bang!” Not far away, Jin Ling’s shoulder was pierced by a long spear.

The spear passed completely through, yet she grasped the spear shaft impaled in her, driving it into the bodies of several enemies in front!

”Sister Jin!” Xiao Han Mo yelled, his body darting forward, catching Jin Ling as she fell, the spear having skewer her.

”Xiao... Xiao Han Mo... Take me back... to Madam Gu’s ancestral tomb...” Blood continuously poured from her mouth, Jin Ling mustered all her strength to murmur.

”Sister Jin!” Xiao Han Mo’s eyes filled with tears, shouting in a heart-rending scream.

This was the comrade who trained with him for a bitter year in the mountains, now fallen...

”Apply medicine, keep her last breath!” A blood-stained bottle was thrown over, Borjigin Nian swung her long whip, breaking the spear that locked Jin Ling’s body, turned and lashed at the encroaching enemies, shouting, ”Lau Mang Big Rock, carve out a path, let Han Mo take Jin Ling out!”

”Yes!”

In the distance, Lau Mang, whose massive body was covered in dark blood, responded across the battlefield, swiftly cutting through the enemies, rushing towards them.

”Han Mo, retreat! Take Jin Ling back to the Southern Border, to find her!” Borjigin Nian shielded the two on the ground, shouting hoarsely.

Xiao Han Mo hurriedly opened the medicine bottle to treat Jin Ling, but she struggled to raise her hand to stop him, blood surging, her eyes unfocused, ”No... don’t waste the lord’s medicine... leave me be...”

Someone was injured, causing a slight disorder in the Dark Night Army’s formation, and immediately more Southern Chen troops surged in.

Blood gushed around several people...

”Quickly, Xiao Han Mo!” Lau Mang, relying on his body size, rushed forward, tearing open a breach in the circle of attackers, turned back, veins bulging with a roar.

Xiao Han Mo, seeing his Sister Jin barely alive, understood Borjigin Nian’s intent to protect him, his tearful eyes heavy with grief, finally smashed the medicine bottle, pouring its contents on Jin Ling’s bleeding shoulder, hoisting her small frame up, and ran towards the breach Lau Mang created.

Watching Xiao Han Mo break through under Lau Mang’s protection, Borjigin Nian paused briefly, murmuring in exhaustion, ”Han Qiu, I think I’ve done all I can, sending your brother away...”

In a flash, Borjigin Nian, now exhausted, raised her long whip high, ”Dark Night Army warriors, today’s battle, no retreat, no surrender, we vow to make Southern Chen’s million troops accompany us to the Yellow Springs! Kill for me!”

”No retreat, no surrender! Kill!”

”No retreat, no surrender! Kill!”

”Fight to the death! Kill!”

”...”

Amidst the deafening shouts, the Dark Night Army, like a beast on the verge of death, began another round of slaughter following the bloody woman!

At the cost of their lives, with no regard for cost, fighting to the death!

The honor and dignity of soldiers must be protected with life!

One after another, enemies fell, and new wounds appeared on the Dark Night Army, but they did not retreat!

If they retreated a step, the Southern Chen troops would advance a step!

Behind them was the Southern Border.

The Southern Border was the battlefield where their master fought!

Their master had ventured deep alone, and if the rear became chaotic, they would be flanked from both sides and doomed to die!

They were the backs of the one they had faith in!

They could only defend, not retreat!

Even in death, they could not break their resolve to protect, nor could they harm their faith and devotion!

This battle darkened the sky and earth, the high-hanging sun seemed to be dyed crimson by blood!

At dusk, Borjigin Nian leaned on a long whip to prop up her body, not even knowing how many wounds were on her, but she was still alive, still breathing!

Beside her, all of the eight hundred remaining soldiers were bathed in blood, but each of their eyes was blood-red, not retreating an inch.

”Fight! As soldiers, we should shed our last drop of blood on the battlefield! Taking down over two hundred thousand of them, we’ve already profited!” Borjigin Nian wiped the blood obscuring her eyes and spoke in deep voice.

”Kill!”

”Kill!”

For a day and a night, the exhausted Dark Night Army launched a last-ditch counterattack.

Time after time, they disrupted the formation of the Southern Chen troops, time after time, they slaughtered their vanguard!

Blood stained their boots, stained their clothes...

”They’re not human! Not human!” a Southern Chen vanguard soldier backed away in terror before the bloodthirsty Dark Night Army.

”Kill! Only advance, no retreat! They’ve exhausted their strength! We still have a million troops supporting the rear, reinforcements will arrive soon, kill them for me!” The Southern Chen Defensive General was also deeply terrified of the Dark Night Army, but as the leading general of the Southern Chen, he could only advance and not retreat!

A million reduced to three hundred thousand, what kind of defiance-to-the-heavens personal guards did Prince Changsheng of Great Zhou raise?

This was simply not human!

The Southern Chen General only hoped that before his million-strong army was exhausted, the Southern Chen army behind him could successfully press towards the Southern Border!

The Southern Chen had mobilized the national strength to send troops to the Southern Border, they were merely the vanguard army opening the way!

Their mission was to break a path directly to the Southern Border through Bashu, regardless of the cost!

Now, the Dayao Mountain of the Southern Border was close at hand, as long as they conquered Shanmen City, success was within reach!

However, to conquer Shanmen City, they first had to kill all eight hundred of the Dark Night Army at the city gate!

Their troops had severely diminished under the desperate fight of the Dark Night Army, but the Dark Night Army couldn’t last much longer!

This battle, no matter the cost, his Southern Chen would ultimately be victorious!

”Cough...” Borjigin Nian, surrounded and pressed down by more than a dozen long spears, suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, her body staggering.

”To hell with you, motherf***ers!” Below her, the long whip swung swiftly, sweeping the legs of the Southern Chen soldiers attacking her!

The pressure on her back drastically reduced, Borjigin Nian stood up straight, gasping for breath, and staggered towards the oncoming army again.

This battle was one of death with no survival!

They were ready to die!

”Gu Changsheng, you must avenge me, you must slaughter all of the Southern Chen to avenge me!” Her hands were numb from swinging, but fortunately, the long whip was firmly tied, not slipping from her grip, Borjigin Nian swung the whip once again, hoarsely shouting in exhaustion.

”Haha... With the Princess accompanying us, we die with honor! We die gloriously!” Lau Mang, with a body like a small mountain covered in blood, fought beside Borjigin Nian, killing back to back.

”Kill!”

Their bodies already at the limit, the Dark Night Army once again burst out with shouted battle cries.

This was their last ounce of strength!

Once exhausted, people perish!

In front of Shanmen City, the eight hundred staggering, sluggish soldiers of the Dark Night Army launched their final desperate counterattack...

As darkness quietly descended, the sound of killing was ceaseless, and behind Shanmen City, an endless blackness surrounded a flash of bright yellow rushing down from Dayao Mountain...
