Chapter 838: Chapter 665: The Heavenly Palace Opens, Palace Banquet Turmoil

The magnificence of the Heavenly Palace truly surprised Borjigin Nian, the carefree Northern Mongolian girl. From the moment she entered the mountain gate, her mouth has been agape.

“Oh my heavens, this is all jade! Using jade stones as floor tiles, they’re really rich!” Borjigin Nian lay on the ground, tapping furiously, drooling all over the floor.

Gu Changsheng twitched the corner of his mouth, unable to resist pulling her up, “Stop embarrassing yourself! There are female officials following us!”

Seriously, she wanted to say that she doesn’t know the woman in front of her!

So embarrassing!

“What’s there to be afraid of? I’m your friend, who dares to make fun of me?” Borjigin Nian snorted, completely looking like a woman relying on her friend’s power.

Gu Changsheng held her forehead, “You’re at least a princess of a country, let’s not lose our status!”

“Hmph! How dare you mention it! I suspect my master brother has emptied my home, and I really doubt if I have food when I go back!” Hearing this, Borjigin Nian’s face fell immediately, grinding her teeth over her master brother’s looting, “So I’ve decided, wherever you go, I will follow, I’ll eat you poor!”

“Ambitious!” Gu Changsheng curled her lips, “Eat all you want, I want to see if you can eat my Southern Country dry.”

This rich and powerful attitude made Borjigin Nian itch with anger, but in the end, she had to drop it.

However, to retaliate against the plundering of Gu Changsheng and her partner, Borjigin Nian, right in front of Gu Changsheng, and under the gaze of numerous female officials, brandished a small dagger, stubbornly pried up a floor tile and hugged it to her chest, saying with bravado that she would bring it back to treasure!

Gu Changsheng was extremely exasperated but had no way to deal with her, so she summoned her Flower Peacock, making Borjigin Nian regain a bit of femininity.

But in the end, there was still a missing jade tile in the great hall of the Heavenly Palace. Borjigin Nian refused to return it, loudly declaring if they should ever fall into poverty, she’d sell it for silver!

Gu Changsheng had no choice but to let her be.

As Southern Country just established, and the Heavenly Palace opened, a grand palace banquet was held at the Nine-Layer Palace on Phoenix Flying Peak. Every noble female official and old court official from Southern Border Bashu were all in attendance without exception.

Palace maids danced lightly, and fine wine and delicacies made this truly a magnificent feast.

After a few rounds of wine, Gu Changsheng, draped in a blood-red Dragon and Phoenix Royal Robe, sat in the prime seat, lying slantingly in an informal manner. The royal pearl on her forehead was round and full, its gentle glow highlighting a spot of holy golden between her brows, exuding an indescribable majestic elegance. Yet, she seemed a bit lazy, resting her head on one hand, holding a Purple Gold Colored Glaze Cup in the other, with faint traces of wine swirling in the cup.

The crowd was long accustomed to their sovereign’s languid behavior. After coming and going a few times, these female officials, nobles, and old ministers had a general understanding of this new emperor.

Indeed, their new emperor was an utterly unruly person!

Although unruly, she absolutely had her own principles!

This made things quite troublesome!

With another swirl of the wine cup in her hand, a shadow of wine danced on her fair hand. Gu Changsheng’s lazy phoenix eyes scanned over the guests seated below in the palace, a sharp glint continuously flashing in her eyes!

Damn, this place is a women’s kingdom!

Look around, the fat, the lean, the old, the young, ninety-nine percent are women, and if there are a couple of men, they are as rare as phoenix feathers and unicorn horns!

For example, her dad currently holding a little dumpling and feeding it, these two are among the rare ones!

Gu Changsheng was quite speechless about the female dominance in the Southwest but also knew that change was not a matter of a day or two. For now, there was nothing much to say, but looking at this seriously imbalanced gender ratio at the banquet, she felt quite distressed!

Damn, is this enough to make her akin to Empress Wu Zetian?

No! She’s even more Wu Zetian than Empress Wu Zetian, she has completely become an emperor in a women’s kingdom!

Now look at those men bringing a sense of singing and dancing to the otherwise serene palace banquet, their combination of strength and beauty exuding a truly extravagant aura!

Truly, being a man in the Southwest is incredibly stifling!

Completely no human rights, no human rights at all!

But this feeling of watching men dance from above, it’s really… truly indescribable!

Gu Changsheng’s gaze couldn’t help but carry some burning intensity.

Some old ministers seated close to the throne saw their new emperor’s fiery gaze on the dancing men, exchanging glances, secretly tempted. These dancing men were all Southern Border Miao people, although a bit lowly in status, they were still Miao people!

A few pairs of aged eyes couldn’t help but flicker with a bit of flame, but in an instant, they remembered the powerful fiancé of their new emperor far away in Great Zhou!

The old ministers’ gaze involuntarily drifted to Hongfu Su across, and just one look extinguished the sparks that had just ignited in their eyes!

Recently, Hongfu Su’s return to court was quite dismal, and now her face is still pale and wan!

A few people thought about it, wanting their new emperor to take a Miao man would be a bit difficult, as it would offend a powerful person, and they couldn’t handle it!

This matter can only be temporarily set aside!

As the dance and music dissipated, everyone at the banquet wanted to raise their cups, but upon seeing their new emperor’s completely uninterested expression, they immediately dismissed the idea and quietly ate their food!

“Red beans grow in the southern country, how many branches spring will bring forth, I hope you pick them abundantly, these are the most longing…” the wine cup in hand slightly swaying, Gu Changsheng murmured.

It instantly became silent below, everyone hearing the voice raised their heads to look at their new emperor.

Gu Changsheng sighed, “Ah! I miss my evildoer at home!”

Everyone: “……”

For a moment, not knowing how to respond.

They looked at each other, their expressions bewildered.

“Well, it’s rare that today the Southern country’s dignitaries and court officials came together neatly, I have something to tell you.” Gu Changsheng put down the wine cup, propped her head and looked down, her expression as lazy as ever, “You are all veterans of the southwest, some have even experienced three dynasties, the Southern Border’s two upheavals, and still stand firm, it shows your seasoned tactics, each counts as characters in their own right!”

Upon hearing this, everyone showed slight panic on their faces.

Is this a compliment? Should they be grateful or terrified?

The words were sharp indeed! But how should they respond?

Gu Changsheng of course did not wait for their response, but leisurely blinked and continued, “As the saying goes, a new emperor comes with new officials, but I’m a complete lazy person, I don’t have the time nor the mood for a complete overhaul, you can withstand the tests of three dynasties, my not minding is one thing, your scheming ways is another, now that the Southern country is newly settled, the court is fraught with intertwined factions, if I act, there would be a complete overhaul!”

At these words, the people below collectively trembled in their hearts, feeling a bit chilly!

“But cultivating new blood takes time, now the Southern country is desperately in need of revival, I don’t have the time to wait for new blood to grow, although the southwest land is seen as barren by the Central Plains, the mountain mineral resources are rich, with gold and silver scattered everywhere, and jade stones and saltpeter not lacking, now that the Southern County is integrated into my Southern country, the three lands communicate seamlessly, only three to five years, and it would be a prosperous scene, and now, I only have one question!” Gu Changsheng said, lazily glancing down at the people sitting upright below.

Once again, they shivered, lowered their heads, and listened intently.

Seeing this, Gu Changsheng didn’t hold back, with a slight smile at the corner of her mouth, she immediately spoke, “Among the dignitaries present, not lacking are great families controlling several mountain ranges and countless people, among the courtiers present, not lacking are entrenched faction members, nor lacking are those owning cities with real military power, I just want to ask all of you, who among you is interested in my position? Who wants to be this Southern Emperor?”

With one sentence, a thousand waves are stirred!

Gu Changsheng spoke with a light, nonchalant demeanor, but the hundreds of guests below instantly lost their calm!

“Thud!”

“Thud!”

“…”

Everyone panicked and left their seats, immediately kneeling on the ground, almost scared out of their wits, shouting three times they dare not!

Seeing this, Gu Changsheng immediately glared, “What are you doing? I’m serious, you all are dignitaries of a region and important courtiers, why be so timid?”

Kneeling below in a crowd, Gu Changsheng finally sat up straight, her expression not at all calm, “I’ve always believed that a soldier who doesn’t want to be a general isn’t a good soldier, and a subject who doesn’t want to be an emperor isn’t a good subject! Come on, I allow your ambition to sprout like the grass on the plains, to grow wildly like vines, but you have to tell me, who wants to come?”

As she spoke, Gu Changsheng patted her seat.

No one paid her any mind!

The kneeling crowd started trembling, cold sweat flowed, and they didn’t even dare to breathe heavily!

The atmosphere of the banquet instantly changed, becoming tense and highly strung.

The little meat dumpling in her grandpa’s arms looked around uneasily, confused, and couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, “Old handsome grandpa, what’s going on? Why did they stop eating the feast?”

Gu Taitian picked up the brocade handkerchief to wipe the little meat dumpling’s lip corner, speaking with a doting expression, “Nothing much, your mother is just unwilling, still hopelessly struggling!”

“Oh…” The little meat dumpling pretended to have a sudden enlightenment, understanding nothing actually, but still showed deep sympathy towards his mother, “My mother is truly miserable!”

“Ignore her, try these Mountain Jade Lotus Meatballs from the Southern Border, you’ll surely like them.”

“Okay, okay.” Hearing about food, the little meat dumpling immediately didn’t care about anything else, these female officials kneel at any turn, he’s almost immune to it, as his mother says, he’s about to separate from the crowd!

Believing that he himself is quite miserable now, separated from the crowd! The little meat dumpling immediately turned his grief and anger into appetite, eating happily!

And seeing everyone silent as cicadas in winter, Gu Changsheng became increasingly dissatisfied, raising a small hand, pointing at a familiar person, “Hongyan, how about I give you this position? You’re at least an elder under my Queen Mother, loyal without doubt, surely can convince everyone!”
