Divine Level Witch Doctor

A Pill Master is the title for a Cultivator of the Elixir School.

Cultivators of this school focus on refining Elixirs externally and their Divine Soul internally. They can extract the essence from medicinal ingredients and forge them into Spirit Pills, which aid in Marrow Cleansing and Bone Cutting to raise one’s Cultivation!

However, Alchemy is not only difficult to learn but even harder to master. Thus, from ancient times to the present, the number of Pill Masters has always been extremely small. But every Pill Master with true skill is also incredibly sought after. The reason is simple: the Elixirs refined by Pill Masters are all treasures, immensely beneficial for one’s cultivation!

”You’re really a Pill Master?” Ying Ji’s eyes widened as she stared at Zhao Yuan. She had only ever heard of the title but had never met one in person.

”I guess so.” Zhao Yuan didn’t want to waste time on this question, so he simply accepted the identity to stop the Ying Family Ancestor and Ying Ji from pestering him.

Ying Ji clicked her tongue in amazement. ”Wow. To think there are still Pill Masters in this world. I thought Cultivators of the Elixir School had already gone extinct. Hey, Zhao Yuan, since you’re a Pill Master, doesn’t that mean you know Alchemy?”

Zhao Yuan nodded. ”Yeah, I know a little.”

This wasn’t a lie. Soul-Stabilizing Incense, Bone Refining Pills, Marrow Cleansing, Bone Marrow Refining Pills... these all counted as Elixirs.

Ying Ji’s eyes lit up instantly. Turning into a curious child, she asked, ”Do you have any Elixirs on you? Can you take one out and show me?”

Zhao Yuan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He spread his hands and said, ”Can we let the Ancestor help me with my business first? We’ve gone a thousand miles off topic!”

”Sorry, sorry, I got too excited,” Ying Ji said, embarrassed.

The Ying Family Ancestor actually really wanted to see the Elixirs Zhao Yuan had refined, but since he’d said that, she was too embarrassed to press the issue. She could only say, ”I’ll help you now and ask this Ghost what unfinished business it has. However, I suggest you think it over. Even if you’re not a Cultivator of the Witch and Priest School, you can still practice Ghost Cultivation. A powerful Ghost Spirit will be of great help to you!”

Zhao Yuan nodded. ”Yes, I’ll consider it carefully. Ancestor, please ask it for me what unfinished business it has.”

The Ying Family Ancestor could see that Zhao Yuan wasn’t being sincere. Shaking her head, she stopped trying to persuade him and walked over to a redwood cabinet against the wall. She pulled open a drawer and took out two glass bottles.

Zhao Yuan glanced over curiously. The two glass bottles were filled with an unknown liquid, each containing some submerged leaves. After a closer look, he recognized that the two bottles contained willow leaves and sophora leaves, respectively.

The Ying Family Ancestor opened the two bottles. First, she took out two willow leaves. Her fingertips traced something quickly over them as she muttered an incantation, as if casting a spell. A few seconds later, the ritual was complete. She closed her eyes and placed the two willow leaves on her upper eyelids. When she opened her eyes again, her gaze fell directly on the female ghost.

”Opening the Celestial Eye?” Zhao Yuan raised an eyebrow.

Detailed information about the magic the Ying Family Ancestor was casting immediately appeared on the Information Leaf. Just as Zhao Yuan had guessed, she was opening her Celestial Eye. However, this magic was useless to him, as he had the better and more convenient Qi Observation Technique.

After sizing up the female ghost for a few moments, the Ying Family Ancestor took a few sophora leaves from the other bottle and threw them into her mouth.

And on the Information Leaf, Zhao Yuan saw the reason for her action.

It turned out that the sophora tree was one of the Five Ghost Trees, and it naturally carried extremely strong Yin Qi and Ghost Qi. By picking its leaves, soaking them in a Secret Medicine, and then applying a Secret Technique, one could alter the state of their tongue, helping them to better speak the Ghost Language.

After chewing the sophora leaves a few times, the Ying Family Ancestor opened her mouth.

A gloomy and bizarre voice emerged from her mouth, completely different from her previous tone and inflection. It was enough to make one’s skin crawl.

This was the Ghost Language!

When the female ghost heard the Ying Family Ancestor’s words, she was first taken aback. Then, a trace of pleasant surprise flashed across her face, and she also began to speak in the same tone and inflection, rattling off a long string of words.

The Ying Family Ancestor was instantly flustered. The female ghost was speaking too much, too quickly, making it difficult for her to understand.

She had to interrupt the female ghost’s endless torrent of words, reminding her, ”Speak slower. Don’t be so fast.”

The female ghost had no choice but to slow her pace and communicate with the Ying Family Ancestor.

Meanwhile, Zhao Yuan wasn’t idle either.

The moment the Ying Family Ancestor spoke in the Ghost Language, learning materials for it appeared on the Information Leaf, even providing an extremely convenient learning method!

Zhao Yuan activated his Concentration Technique and began to learn the Ghost Language.

The learning method taught by the Information Leaf was incredibly efficient. Coupled with the help from his Concentration Technique, Zhao Yuan quickly got the hang of it. Although his Ghost Language wasn’t very fluent yet, simple conversations were no longer a problem.

It was also at this moment that Zhao Yuan discovered the Ying Family Ancestor’s Ghost Language wasn’t actually that fluent. It was halting, full of errors and omissions. Her communication with the female ghost was basically a mix of listening and guessing! This was also why, even now, the Ying Family Ancestor still hadn’t figured out why the female ghost was Chaining to Zhao Yuan.

The situation was like someone with terrible English trying to communicate with an Old Mei who didn’t understand Chinese. Both sides were incredibly frustrated, but there was nothing they could do.

Of course, besides speaking the Ghost Language, there was another way to communicate well: letting the ghost possess you.

But this method consumed a great deal of Primordial Qi. Especially since this female ghost had already reached the level of an Earth Ghost or Celestial Spirit, the consumption from possession would be even greater. A slight misstep, and you could lose your life! That’s why the Ying Family Ancestor would rather choose to communicate through a mix of listening and guessing in the Ghost Language than easily resort to the method of possession.

Seeing how painful the exchange between the Ying Family Ancestor and the female ghost was, Zhao Yuan couldn’t take it anymore. He opened his mouth and asked in the Ghost Language, ”What is your name? Why are you Chaining to me?”

The moment he spoke, everyone was stunned.

Every person and ghost in the room turned around, staring at Zhao Yuan with wide eyes.

”Was that... the Ghost Language you just spoke?” Ying Ji asked uncertainly.

Zhao Yuan switched back to human speech and nodded. ”Yes, it was.”

Ying Ji was astonished. ”Didn’t you say you couldn’t speak the Ghost Language?”

Zhao Yuan replied, ”Before just now, I really couldn’t. I just learned it from listening to the conversation between the Ancestor and the female ghost.”

”Holy shit, are you even human?” Deeply shocked, Ying Ji cursed again. At home, especially in front of the Ancestor, she had always maintained the image of a well-behaved child. But today, because of Zhao Yuan, she had ruined that image one time after another.

The Ying Family Ancestor didn’t blame her, because she really wanted to curse too.

”You really just learned the Ghost Language? You learned it just by listening to my conversation with the female ghost? But it’s only been a few minutes! You’re too ridiculous! And why do I feel like the Ghost Language you just picked up on the fly is even better than mine? Wait, you can speak the Ghost Language without chewing sophora leaves?”

A string of questions poured from the Ying Family Ancestor’s mouth.
