Divine Level Witch Doctor

Ying Ji was suddenly struck by a thought that left her even more shocked and bewildered. ”Ancestor, didn’t you say the Summon Ghost Technique can only summon Human Souls at best? Why was Zhao Yuan able to summon Ghosts at the level of an Earth Ghost or a Celestial Spirit?”

This question left even the worldly Ying Family Ancestor, who had lived for a hundred and twenty years, utterly confused.

She shook her head and said with a wry smile, ”I’m not sure either.”

She asked Zhao Yuan for the details of his ghost summoning, but hearing his explanation only left her more confused and bewildered.

The Summon Ghost Technique Zhao Yuan had used was the most primitive, most basic one.

To summon a Yin Spirit Level Ghost with such a technique would require insane luck! And Earth Ghosts, Celestial Spirits... ghosts of that caliber were halfway to the Ghost Immortal realm. How could such a simple Summon Ghost Technique possibly call them forth?

It was like playing a game where a normal summon, which should only produce R Cards at best, suddenly dropped an SSR Card. It was simply unbelievable!

If this were a game, you could blame it on a bug. But this was the real damn world! What kind of system bug could there be?!

After puzzling over it for a long time without any answers, the Ying Family Ancestor could only say helplessly, ”There must be something unusual going on, but we just can’t figure out what it is right now.”

Zhao Yuan smiled wryly. ”Ancestor, Ying Ji, I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing. I’m not interested in how I summoned this female ghost. I just want to know how to get rid of her.”

”What? You want to get rid of her?” The Ying Family Ancestor, who had just barely managed to calm down, was instantly stunned once more. She was so agitated she even bit her tongue as she spoke, hissing in pain.

Ying Ji gave her ancestor a sympathetic look. She’d had a similar reaction earlier.

”Yes,” Zhao Yuan said with a nod, his expression serious. ”This female ghost isn’t hostile and has never tried to hurt me, but I’m really not used to having a ghost around me all the time. It just feels… too weird. That’s why I want to send her away as soon as possible. Ying Ji told me that the Ghost is probably haunting me because of some unfulfilled wish, but I can’t communicate with her. So I was hoping you, Ancestor, could ask her for me what she wants me to do for her.”

The Ying Family Ancestor’s jaw dropped. She looked as if she had just heard the most outlandish tale, her expression one of utter shock.

She tried to calm herself, but it was impossible. Her voice trembled as she spoke. ”Do you have any idea that what happened to you is something a Witch Priest would only dream of? This is an Earth Ghost! A Celestial Spirit Level Ghost! The fact that it bears you no ill will means you share a bond of fate with it. You have a huge opportunity to take it as your Ghost Spirit! A Ghost Spirit that’s at the Earth Ghost or Celestial Spirit Level right from the start… things like that only happened back in the Ancient Era, when Spiritual Qi was abundant. And yet you… you don’t cherish this fateful encounter at all? You actually want to send this Ghost away? Am I hearing things, or have you lost your mind?”

”You heard me right, and I’m not crazy.” Zhao Yuan threw up his hands, looking somewhat exasperated. ”I’m just not interested in Ghost Cultivation. Besides, I just acquired a decent Gu Insect. I don’t have the time or resources for Raising Gu and Ghosts simultaneously.”

”How can a Gu Insect possibly compare to a Ghost Spirit? Let alone one at the Earth Ghost or Celestial Spirit Level!” the Ying Family Ancestor said, her cheeks puffed out in anger. She looked at him with an expression of utter disappointment.

Ying Ji’s interest, on the other hand, was suddenly piqued.

’Zhao Yuan messes around with summoning ghosts and accidentally calls up a powerful Ghost at the Earth Ghost or Celestial Spirit level. So, could the Gu Insect he acquired also be something amazing?’

So she asked, full of curiosity, ”Zhao Yuan, what kind of Gu Insect did you get? Take it out and show me.”

Zhao Yuan answered, ”It’s a beetle. It’s dormant right now, so I left it back in my dorm. I didn’t bring it with me.”

”A beetle?” Ying Ji shrugged, instantly losing interest.

’In her view, Gu Insects had to be highly venomous to be considered powerful. Poisonous hornets, scorpions, snakes—they were all vastly superior to a mere beetle. To think Zhao Yuan would give up a Ghost Spirit for a beetle… Is he a fucking idiot?’

Just then, Zhao Yuan added, ”Oh, right. I think the beetle is called a… Fire Spirit Insect?”

”Wh-what?”

This time, it was Ying Ji’s turn to bite her tongue.

Ignoring the pain, she asked in a rush, ”What did you say the Gu Insect you acquired was called?”

”A Fire Spirit Insect,” Zhao Yuan said. ”Why?”

”Damn it, and you ask ’why?’! Would it kill you to stop showing off?” Ying Ji was so triggered she couldn’t stop herself from cursing.

Then, she exclaimed, her face a mask of disbelief, ”Fire Spirit Insects still exist in this world? I thought that kind of Spirit Insect went extinct long ago! Zhao Yuan, you’re an absolute monster! Other people use normal poisonous bugs to make their Gu Insects, but you just jump straight to Raising Gu with a Spirit Insect! Are you using a cheat engine or something?”

The Ying Family Ancestor was also staring in shock.

’A Fire Spirit Insect… that’s a Spirit Insect that has opened its Spiritual Aperture! It could even Cultivate into a Demon!’

’A bug like that, same as Earth Ghosts and Celestial Spirits, was common back in the Ancient Times when Spiritual Qi was plentiful. But in the modern era, with its thin Spiritual Qi, they vanished without a trace long ago!’

’To think that this kid, Zhao Yuan, had managed to collect both of them in a single night.’

For a moment, the Ying Family Ancestor couldn’t help but wonder if this kid, Zhao Yuan, was the heavens’ illegitimate son. Otherwise, how could he possibly have such heaven-defying luck?

Still in shock, Ying Ji darted in front of Zhao Yuan and started patting him down all over.

”What are you doing? Hey, what are you doing?!” Zhao Yuan yelped, completely taken aback. ’What the hell is going on? Are you trying to grope me in broad daylight? Your ancestor is standing right there, have some decency!’

”What am I doing? Trying to get some of your insane luck to rub off on me, of course!” Ying Ji muttered under her breath as she continued her pat-down. ”Please let me summon a Spirit Insect and a powerful Ghost too…”

Great. Now she was treating him like a lucky charm.

A few minutes later, the Ying Family Ancestor managed to rein in her turbulent emotions. ”Zhao Yuan, have you thought this through?” she asked. ”Are you certain you want to send away the Ghost clinging to you? While raising a Spirit Insect and a Ghost Spirit simultaneously is indeed a huge drain on resources, the boost to your power would be considerable.”

”I’m sure,” Zhao Yuan confirmed with a nod. ”I’m not a Witch Priest. Ghost Cultivation doesn’t really fit my path of Cultivation.”

”What? You’re not a Witch Priest?” The Ying Family Ancestor’s mouth dropped open.

Ying Ji was also stunned.

’Your skills as a Witch Priest are this insane, this advanced, and you’re telling me you’re not a Witch Priest? Are you kidding me?!’

After confirming that Zhao Yuan wasn’t lying, the Ying Family Ancestor couldn’t help but ask, ”Then which school of practice do you follow?”

Zhao Yuan didn’t tell them he was a Witch Doctor, saying evasively, ”Er… I’m actually studying medicine.”

”Studying medicine? Is there such a school in cultivation?” The Ying Family Ancestor raised an eyebrow, then suddenly exclaimed, ”I know! You’re a Pill Master! A Pill Master who refines Elixirs on the outside and tempers the Divine Soul on the inside!”
