Divine Level Witch Doctor

Zhao Yuan waited for about seven or eight minutes before he saw Qiu Haogu running over, panting for breath.

He charged straight into Zhao Yuan’s dorm room. After confirming he was the first to arrive, his anxious heart finally settled. He put his hands on his hips, gasping for air, and said, ”Got any water? Give me a drink. Goodness, I haven’t run like this in years. I nearly passed out.”

Before Zhao Yuan could say a word, Liu Zhu, Wu Yan, and Wang Rongfeng sprang into action.

”Water! Quick, get Elder Qiu a cup of water.”

”I’ll go get it.”

”Elder Qiu, would you like some tea? I have some high-quality Zhuyeqing here. Should I brew a cup for you?”

The trio’s enthusiasm startled Qiu Haogu. Once he calmed down, he quickly waved his hands and said, ”No need for tea, plain water is fine. Just don’t make it too hot.”

Wang Rongfeng grabbed a paper cup, filled it with warm water from the dorm’s water dispenser, and carefully handed it over to Qiu Haogu.

Qiu Haogu said thanks, leaving Wang Rongfeng feeling flattered and overwhelmed. Then, he tilted his head back and downed the water in one gulp. After letting out a long breath, he felt much better. Liu Zhu, meanwhile, brought over a chair and invited Qiu Haogu to sit and rest. Wu Yan, unable to find anything to do, stared on anxiously.

Seeing how exhausted Qiu Haogu was, Zhao Yuan felt rather embarrassed and said, ”Elder Qiu, what’s this all about? Did you really have to come all the way to my dorm? Couldn’t I have gone to see you?”

”By the time you came to find me, it would have been too late,” Qiu Haogu said as he pulled a form from the document bag he was carrying. He handed it to Zhao Yuan and urged him on with a look of anticipation, ”Quick, fill this out.”

”What am I filling this out for?” Zhao Yuan looked over the form and saw it was just a personal information sheet. He couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised. ”Do you have to fill out a personal resume just to get a scholarship these days?”

”What scholarship? This is the registration form for the Chinese Medical Exchange Forum,” Qiu Haogu explained, speaking quickly.

Hearing this, all four people in Dorm 301 were collectively stunned.

A moment later, they snapped out of it and burst into a series of exclamations.

”What? The Chinese Medical Exchange Forum? Did I hear that right?”

”The national-level academic forum that’s only held once every three years? Whoa, that’s the best medical exchange conference in the country!”

”Third Brother is actually going to attend such a top-tier academic forum? My God, that’s incredible! You know, a lot of experts and professors don’t even qualify to attend this event!”

The faces of Liu Zhu, Wang Rongfeng, and Wu Yan showed nothing but shock and pride. Even though Zhao Yuan was the one attending the Chinese Medical Exchange Forum and not them, as his good brothers and roommates, they felt a share of the glory and were extremely proud.

Zhao Yuan, on the other hand, wore a look of disbelief. ”Elder Qiu, you want me to attend the Chinese Medical Exchange Forum? Isn’t that... inappropriate?”

Qiu Haogu grinned. ”What’s inappropriate about it? It’s perfectly appropriate.”

Zhao Yuan hesitated. ”I’m just a first-year student. The people who attend this kind of top-tier medical forum are basically all well-known experts and professors from across the country...”

Before he could finish, Qiu Haogu cut him off. ”Alright, alright, stop being so modest. You may be a first-year student, but your attainments in the Medical Dao are enough to make you an expert or a professor. Never mind other things, just look at that Medical Ancient Texts exam you recently took. It set off a wave of study and research in the Traditional Chinese Medicine community! Many renowned experts have sighed that they can’t compare to you. So don’t you worry. You are absolutely qualified to attend this grand event! Hurry up and fill out the form so I can submit your recommendation...”

Since Qiu Haogu had put it that way, it would be pretentious for Zhao Yuan to refuse any further. Besides, he also really wanted to attend such a top-tier national medical event to open his eyes and broaden his horizons.

”In that case, thank you, Elder Qiu,” Zhao Yuan said. He picked up a pen from the desk, ready to fill out the form.

Just then, two voices shouted in unison, ”Don’t fill it out!”

The voices were loud and urgent, making Zhao Yuan’s hand freeze. He whipped his head around to look at the dorm room entrance.

Two figures appeared there: Yang Jingbo and Director Ma.

The two of them had arrived outside Dorm 301 at almost the same time. Neither was willing to yield, so they both charged for the door at once. But the doorway wasn’t very wide. It was fine for one person to pass through, but with both of them trying to get in, they instantly got stuck. To make matters worse, neither would give way or back down. They just kept desperately shoving forward, making Zhao Yuan worry they would break the doorframe.

Thankfully, that didn’t happen. After a Herculean effort, the two of them finally squeezed into the dorm room.

As soon as they were inside, they started accusing Qiu Haogu.

Director Ma said, panting, ”Elder Qiu, you can’t do this! You actually ran all the way to the dorm to poach a student! Let me tell you, I contacted Zhao Yuan before you did. For this Chinese Medical Exchange Forum, our Department of Chinese Pharmacy will be the one to recommend Zhao Yuan. And he will represent our Department of Chinese Pharmacy!”

Qiu Haogu shot back, not giving an inch, ”Xiaoma, how can a phone call show sincerity? I was the first one to find Zhao Yuan in his dorm. This time, he must be recommended by our Medical Ancient Texts Teaching and Research Group! And he must represent the Medical Ancient Texts major!”

The two of them glared at each other with wide, angry eyes. The tense, confrontational atmosphere made Zhao Yuan and his roommates very awkward, unsure of who to persuade or whose side to take.

Just then, Yang Jingbo spoke up, taking on both of them at once. ”Gentlemen, you can both stop fighting over Zhao Yuan. He is a student in our Department of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine. By all rights, he should be recommended by our department, and likewise, he should represent our department at this medical event. As for your kind intentions, I accept them on Zhao Yuan’s behalf. And while I’m at it, I’ll thank you for him as well.”

”Accept my ass!” Qiu Haogu exploded, actually letting a curse slip out. The four students’ jaws dropped, and for a moment, they wondered if they had heard him correctly. ”What right do you have to accept anything on Zhao Yuan’s behalf? Let me tell you, Yang, Zhao Yuan must represent our Medical Ancient Texts major this time!”

And so, the three of them began to argue.

In the midst of their squabbling, Zhao Yuan finally understood the whole story.

It turned out that as one of the country’s top medical schools, every department and school under West Hua Medical University was qualified to recommend a participant. Once a recommendation was approved by the Chinese Medical Exchange Forum’s panel of experts, that participant would become the representative for their department.

If, during the conference, this participant proposed a good research topic or made a significant contribution, not only would they themselves gain great fame and prestige, but the department they represented would also share in the resulting glory and honor.
