Ghost Catching System

After walking out of the forest, Chu Hao started to feel a bit of a headache coming on. The Wooden Drought Fiend is too big, and its emergence is bound to cause a sensation.

Looking at the Wooden Drought Fiend, Chu Hao asked, ”Can you shrink down at all?”

The intelligence of the Wooden Drought Fiend was not as high as that of the Golden Drought Evil Spirit, but it could understand basic speech. It shook its massive head.

The Golden Drought Evil Spirit had already reverted to a human-like appearance. Old Dog Zhang was dark-skinned and lean. He said, ”It can disguise itself as deadwood.”

The Wooden Drought Fiend nodded, stood up straight, and merged its arms and legs together, taking root in the soil. At first glance, it appeared to be nothing more than a tree struck by lightning.

That disguise is unbeatable.

Chu Hao felt it was not bad and said, ”Zi Jing, could you use your Treasure Gourd to pack it up and bring it back with us?”

Zi Jing patted the large gourd on her back and said, ”Treasure Gourd, take it in.”

Then, a whirlwind arose, and the Wooden Drought Fiend was sucked into the gourd.

The Golden Drought Evil Spirit was shocked. Not only are Chu Hao and the Toad Spirit out of the ordinary, but even this little girl is so formidable!

Seeing the toad casting a sideways glance at him, Chu Hao said, ”What are you looking at, huh? Do you want to get smacked?”

The toad ignored Chu Hao. It’s not wise to argue with him now; I might get beaten.

The toad looked at the Golden Drought Evil Spirit and asked, ”Your Majesty is puzzled, how exactly did you enter a human body?”

The Golden Drought Evil Spirit looked at Chu Hao and said, ”I’m not quite clear either. At that time, this person died inside the cave, and I just wanted to try and see if I could take control. I didn’t expect that after touching the corpse, I gradually transformed into this.”

Chu Hao asked, ”Then what is your true form?”

The formation of a Drought Fiend is from the transformation of a corpse. This makes the true form of the Golden Drought Evil Spirit puzzling. Could it have been a gold ore? Could stones also become mystical creatures?

The Golden Drought Evil Spirit explained, ”My true form is a stone, not very high in gold content.”

The toad exclaimed, ”A Corpse Stone Spirit!”

Chu Hao was also taken aback. The Ancient Desolate Scripture recorded that for a stone to become a spirit, it needed at least one hundred thousand years. From its metamorphosis to its death, it could have lived for several hundred thousand years. After its death and resurrection, it received a great fortune, turning into a Corpse Stone Spirit, which is now the Golden Drought Evil Spirit. This is equivalent to living two lifetimes! The age of this Golden Drought Evil Spirit must be at least a few hundred thousand years by the lowest estimate, and it doesn’t even know it!

The toad was excited and asked, ”Didn’t you get any inheritance from the Drought Fiend?”

The Golden Drought Evil Spirit shook its head and said, ”No.”

The toad looked disappointed and said, ”Then that’s probably why this part of the Human World hasn’t spiritually awakened. Kiddo Chu, you’ve stumbled upon a treasure.”

I’ve really hit the jackpot this time.

If the Golden Drought Evil Spirit ever received the inheritance of the Ten Ancient Evils Drought Fiend, then its strength could potentially increase by dozens or even a hundred times.

However, that was a matter for the future. Right now, the Golden Drought Evil Spirit was no match for Chu Hao.

The toad said, ”It’s very rare for one place to produce two Drought Fiends. Could there be something in the depths of that mountain range?”

Just the thought of a place producing two Drought Fiends made it sound extraordinary.

After thinking for a moment, the Golden Drought Evil Spirit said, ”From Old Dog Zhang’s memories, I recall that a long time ago, there was a big earthquake here. The mountain cracked open, revealing a large canyon deep within. Some say it’s a canyon where immortals were buried.”

Chu Hao pondered this. I definitely need to go and take a look if I get the chance.

The toad was also very interested and wanted to go treasure hunting inside.

As for Zi Jing, there was no need to mention how excited she was as she exclaimed, ”Let’s go on an adventure!”

Chu Hao coughed dryly and said, ”Zi Jing, shouldn’t you be heading back? Your grandfather will be worried about you.”

Zi Jing replied, ”I’m not going back. It’s boring to be with that old man, but it’s so much fun with you, Big Brother!”

Chu Hao pursed his lips. It feels like the toad and Zi Jing are hiding something from me.

「Two days later, they returned to Anli City.」

The Wooden Drought Fiend, this big fellow, was settled in a quiet area in the mountains behind the villa. Meanwhile, the Golden Drought Evil Spirit could stay by Chu Hao’s side to gradually increase its loyalty.

Resting at night, Chu Hao opened the attribute panel and said, ”System, exchange my Merit Points for Pretentiousness Points.”

”DING... 230,000 Merit Points have been exchanged for 23,000 Pretentiousness Points.”

With the original 9,000 Pretentiousness Points, he now had a total of 35,000 Pretentiousness Points.

Besides that, he also had treasure chests.

The System prompted, ”You have six Diamond Treasure Chests and seven Golden Treasure Chests, which can be merged into one Green Diamond Treasure Chest. Would you like to merge them?”

Chu Hao chose not to merge. Although the Green Diamond Treasure Chest is tempting, what if it turns out to be junk when opened? Wouldn’t I suffer a heavy loss?

Chu Hao said, ”Open all the Golden Treasure Chests.”

”DING... Host has gained one thousand Pretentiousness Points.”

”DING... Host has gained one thousand Pretentiousness Points.”

”DING...”

Seven Golden Treasure Chests yielded three thousand Pretentiousness Points, some other trinkets, and a damned box of Red Dragons.

Not too bad.

Chu Hao said, ”Open a Diamond Treasure Chest.”

”DING... Host has gained a truckload of Red Dragons.”

A whole truckload of Red Dragons right off the bat! What’s the deal here?

Chu Hao helplessly said, ”Continue opening.”

”DING... Host has gained a truckload of Red Dragons.”

I want to flip the table! What kind of luck is this? Only ghosts know what I’ve been through!

Chu Hao’s face was incredibly grim. He muttered, ”Is Brother Hao out of luck today? Should I buy a luck amulet?”

System: ”Luck amulets cannot be used on opening treasure chests.”

Chu Hao was speechless. It seemed his idea to outsmart the System had been thwarted. He said, ”You win. Continue opening.”

”DING... Host has gained a 20% Off Discount Card.”

At last, some consolation. This must be a sign of good fortune coming my way! Chu Hao continued to open the Diamond Treasure Chests.

”DING... Host has gained a truckload of Red Dragons.”

AHHHHHHH!!

Another truckload of Red Dragons! Am I really cursed with bad luck today? This is the third one! What is the System playing at? What am I supposed to do with all these Red Dragons?

There were still two Diamond Treasure Chests left.

Chu Hao angrily said, ”Open the last two.”

”DING... Host has gained a truckload of Red Dragons.”

I feel like vomiting blood! Yet another truckload of Red Dragons! I’ve lost count of how many the System has in storage. Releasing them all could probably knock out an entire city’s population!

”DING... Host has gained the Mercury Lotus.”

Good, that’s one of the ingredients required for the Advanced Foundation Building Scripture. At least that’s some consolation.

There was one Green Diamond Treasure Chest left. Chu Hao prayed inwardly, The last Green Diamond Treasure Chest! Heavens, please, no more Red Dragons! He then said, ”Open the Green Diamond Treasure Chest.”

”DING... Congratulations to the Host! Your luck has exploded! You’ve obtained the Holding Mountain Fist.”

Chu Hao was ecstatic and promptly opened the System store to see how many Pretentiousness Points the Holding Mountain Fist was worth.

But when he checked, Holding Mountain Fist didn’t show a Pretentiousness Points value; it was not for sale and only obtainable from a treasure chest.

Item: Holding Mountain Fist

Rarity: ★★★★★

Ability: Allows the user to embody the power of mountains and rivers in their fist technique. Executing one punch requires fifty thousand Pretentiousness Points and the True Qi equivalent to that of an Advanced Foundation Building level practitioner.

(Learning Holding Mountain Fist grants ten thousand Mana Points)

The introduction to Holding Mountain Fist didn’t describe its abilities in much detail. However, the stated power, required energy, and Mana Points were enough to demonstrate its strength.

Chu Hao was overjoyed and quickly said, ”Learn.”

”DING... Host has learned the Holding Mountain Fist, gaining ten thousand Mana Points.”

Now I’ve reached fifty-five thousand Mana Points, only lacking the True Qi of an Advanced Foundation Building level!
