Ghost Catching System

Information about the Mysterious Lady surfaced in Chu Hao’s mind. So, the Mysterious Lady is another avatar of the Mysterious Lady of the Ninth Heaven, and there are nine such avatars in total. Her magical power is boundless, making her a supreme deity in Taoism. In the mortal realm, she’s worshipped as the Jiutian Empress. Taoist records say the Jiutian Empress left her divine consciousness in the world, so Taoists invoke her during exorcisms to boost their magic. The background of the Mysterious Lady of the Ninth Heaven is truly immense. Her avatars were dispatched by the Nine Mysterious Heavenly Ladies to cultivate in the mortal world, and their collective magical power grows stronger each time the nine avatars converge—that’s how the Jiutian Empress cultivates. The Joy God, the Anger God, the God of Sorrows, Le Shen, the Benevolent God, the Evil God, the Fear God, the Forgetful God, and the Nine Mysterious Gods. Among these Jiuxuan Avatars, each has its own sealing method. The problem is, Yi Qinglian’s avatar is the Forgetful God. To forget, to sever all emotional ties, to be heartless and unrighteous. The System has a set of seals to suppress the Forgetful God, but it requires a lot of Pretentiousness Points to purchase.

System: ”To seal the Jiuxuan Avatar, it is recommended that the Host purchase the Sealing Divine Seal, which requires 30,000 Pretentiousness Points.”

Damn it, 30,000 Pretentiousness Points! Chu Hao thought. I only have 5,000 Pretentiousness Points right now. How am I supposed to show off enough to gather that many in seven days? Then again, there are those treasure chests I got from the Ancient Tomb—one Diamond Treasure Chest and one Semi-Diamond Treasure Chest.

Seeing everyone’s worried faces, Chu Hao consoled them, ”Don’t worry. Even if it costs me my life, I won’t let the Mysterious Lady succeed.”

Yi Zhengjun could only say, ”The room is ready, Little Chu. Please rest well.”

Yi Qinglian’s parents hadn’t rested properly for some time due to her illness.

Upon arriving in the room, Chu Hao prepared to open the treasure chests. He thought for a moment and then decided to take out the Pretentious Dice. If I can roll good luck before opening the treasure chests, wouldn’t the chances of saving Yi Qinglian be much greater?

”May the heavens bless me! I’ll definitely offer you incense later. Just let me have good luck!” Chu Hao prayed, clasping his hands and bowing to the sky outside the window.

”Here goes!”

The dice spun in mid-air, Chu Hao’s eyes fixed on it.

CLACK.

The dice bounced on the floor, his nervousness mounting with each impact.

When the dice finally settled, Chu Hao saw the face pointing upwards, and his spirits instantly plummeted. ”Unlucky Pretentiousness!”

Chu Hao cursed, ”Damn it, Heavens, I want to throttle you!”

System notification: ”The System has determined that due to the Host’s level increase, the power of the Pretentious Dice has improved.”

Hearing this, Chu Hao felt as if he’d been struck by lightning.

Shortly after, he noticed the Pretentious Dice had changed. It transformed from six sides to four: ”Good Luck Pretentiousness” and ”Bad Luck Pretentiousness.” As for the other two sides, one awarded 1,000 Pretentiousness Points, and the other awarded 2,000 Pretentiousness Points.

None of that matters! Chu Hao inwardly fumed. He cursed, ”Stupid System! You improve the Pretentious Dice’s power at *this* time? Are you trying to screw your daddy over?”

System: ”Host, refrain from calling me ’daddy’ repeatedly. This System doesn’t have a son like you. Because the Host’s level is getting higher, and you haven’t used the Pretentious Dice for a long time, its capabilities have been upgraded to a corresponding level this time upon use.”

Chu Hao was speechless for a moment, then asked, ”How much more powerful is it?”

System: ”It has doubled in power.”

Doubled! Chu Hao almost fainted. The old Pretentious Dice was torturous enough, and now its effects are supposedly *tripled*? This could be deadly! Today is definitely not the day to open the treasure chests! What if I open the Diamond Treasure Chest and get a truckload of Red Dragons and boys’ urine? I’ll be the one crying buckets then!

Chu Hao decided not to go out. What can they do to me then?

However, he felt an uneasy premonition, as if something were about to happen.

Sure enough, there was a knock on the door.

Chu Hao carefully opened it and saw Tang Mo standing outside.

When Tang Mo saw Chu Hao poking his head out, looking guilty and sneaky, she asked irritably, ”What are you doing?”

Chu Hao replied, ”Nothing. What’s up?”

Tang Mo said, a hint of a headache in her voice, ”I need your help.”

Chu Hao had decided not to go anywhere tonight, so he said firmly, ”Not helping.”

Tang Mo was furious. So many people beg me for help, and this guy rejects me without a second thought!

She gritted her teeth. ”Are you going to help or not?”

Chu Hao shook his head again. Once Brother Hao makes a decision, not even the Heavenly King himself can make me change my mind!

Tang Mo’s face turned cold. ”Fine. I’ll just tell Qinglian’s mom about your little trip to the brothel. We’ll see what you do then.”

Chu Hao’s face darkened. She’s trying to back Brother Hao into a corner! ”Wait... what do you need my help with?”

Tang Mo replied, ”There’s a party tonight, and some guys are pestering me and Qingcheng. Since you’re in the Imperial Capital, I was planning to use you as a shield.”

This lady is pretty straightforward, wanting to use me as a human shield! Chu Hao thought, then said through gritted teeth, ”I’m not available today.”

Tang Mo asked incredulously, ”Are you on your period or something?”

”You’re the one on your period!” Chu Hao retorted stubbornly.

Tang Mo’s face was icy. ”Chu Hao, I’m just asking for a small favor. Qinglian’s sister is being harassed, and you won’t even help? I didn’t realize you were such a coward.”

Hearing this, Chu Hao couldn’t take it. ”How is Brother Hao a coward? I’m really just not available today!”

Tang Mo stomped her foot in anger. ”Fine! Stay here then! I’ll go have a chat with Qinglian’s mother about your ’glorious deeds’!”

Damn it, she’s really pushing Brother Hao into a desperate situation!

With a pained expression, Chu Hao said, ”Wait! Okay, I’ll go, alright?”

Tang Mo flashed a victorious smile. ”We’ll be waiting for you downstairs. Hurry up!”

Chu Hao was speechless. If Tang Mo hadn’t threatened him, he wouldn’t have stepped out tonight even if it killed him.

He laid out a condition, ”Alright, I’ll go with you. But that incident—the stain on Brother Hao’s life—you are never to mention it again.”

Tang Mo replied, ”Deal.”

「Downstairs」

Yi Qingcheng and Tang Mo were waiting for Chu Hao. When he finally appeared, he was acting jumpy, constantly looking left and right as if trying to avoid something.

Once in the car, Chu Hao said, ”Please drive slowly.”

Yi Qingcheng gave him a strange look.

Tang Mo rolled her eyes at him. ”Relax, I’m a very careful driver.”

With that, she floored the accelerator, and the car shot forward.

Chu Hao quickly fastened his seatbelt and gripped the safety handle tightly, his face paling. ”Slow down, will you!”

Tang Mo said, exasperated, ”Did you take the wrong medicine today or something?”

Chu Hao explained, ”This Taoist Master has divined that it’s an inauspicious day to go out. I’m destined for major bad luck!”

Tang Mo and Yi Qingcheng, however, didn’t believe him. ”Quit your superstitious act,” they said.

As if to deliberately provoke him, Tang Mo sped up even more.

「Twenty minutes later」

They arrived at their destination. Tang Mo turned her head and said irritably, ”We’re here.”

Chu Hao looked around suspiciously. Wasn’t it supposed to be double bad luck? How come nothing happened on the way?

Still, he breathed a sigh of relief. The three of them got out of the car.
