Ghost Catching System

Chu Hao, brandishing the Ritian Stick, appeared and looked down disdainfully at the Ghost Sacrificer, his voice cold as ice, ”Old Ghost, I was just playing with you before, and you took it seriously?”

”Ding... The host’s awe-inspiring pretentiousness has earned 800 Pretentiousness Points.”

The Ghost Sacrificer was deeply affected. With an expression filled with resentment and hatred, he roared, ”I am immortal.”

Chu Hao couldn’t be bothered to talk nonsense with him and raised the Ritian Stick, smashing it down with one swing.

Just one hit, and the Ghost Sacrificer’s head was shattered, snuffing out his life instantly.

”Ding... Killing the Ghost Sacrificer has earned five million Experience Points.”

”Ding... Killing the Ghost Sacrificer has dropped a Semi-Diamond Treasure Chest.”

About to reach the max level!?

With the death of the Ghost Sacrificer, numerous ghosts were set free, swarming the skies in dense throngs. There were far too many to count, certainly more than ten thousand.

Looking at the multitude of Yin Souls, Chu Hao asked, ”Which one of you is King Chu?”

Out of the ghosts, twenty-two ghostly figures floated forward. They were the ancestral kings of the past Chu Kingdom.

In truth, aside from these twenty-two Kings of Chu, there were many others lost in the chaos of wars, never buried within King Chu’s Tomb.

These included Chu Xiongzhao, the first king who sought refuge with King Wen of Zhou; Chu Xiong Qu, who opposed the Zhou dynasty; and King Huai of Chu, who was killed by Xiang Yu, among many others.

Having been tormented by the Ghost Sacrificer for too long, a number of the kings became dazed, as if they had lost their Three Souls and Seven Spirits.

”Have you come to rescue us?” Chu Xiong Qu inquired.

Looking at the kings of yore, Chu Hao couldn’t help but feel moved. After all these years, they were still here. These were the kings of the Yang Realm, who held their pride high, preferring to be buried in their own constructed ancient tombs rather than be reincarnated.

”I am a descendant of the kings.”

The kings were overjoyed, each showing an excited demeanor.

”Which king’s descendant are you?” Chu Xiong Qu asked.

Chu Hao shrugged and said, ”How would I know? It’s been three thousand years.”

Three thousand years—indeed a very long time. Hearing this, the kings were nearly devastated. Their souls had been tormented by the Ghost Offering Clan for three thousand years.

Chu Hao inquired, ”Kings, the King Chu’s Seal can open the treasure. Where is this treasure located?”

The treasure of King Chu naturally belonged to him, and nobody else was to lay a hand on it.

Chu Xiongzhao stepped forward. As the eldest ancestor of the Chu Kingdom and ancestor to all present kings, he said, ”Child, the treasure is on an island. I call it Ring Wall Island.”

Chu Hao rolled his eyes. What kind of place is this Ring Wall Island, and how am I supposed to find it?

Chu Xiongzhao continued, ”Since you are a descendant of the kings, it is right for you to guard the treasure.”

Guard? Chu Hao pondered. That word was crucial. He asked, ”What am I supposed to guard?”

Chu Xiongzhao said, ”The Yellow Emperor Xuan Yuan once advised that the treasure must never be opened, or it would bring about a great disaster, devastating all living beings.”

The Yellow Emperor Xuan Yuan! Chu Hao’s mind raced. Chu Xiongzhao’s ancestor was Emperor Zhuanxu, who was the grandson of Emperor Huang, as recorded in history.

So, the kings of Chu were descendants of the Emperor. Old Tie, you’re spot on there, Chu Hao thought with an internal nod.

Listening to Chu Xiongzhao, it seemed that the treasure contained massive secrets that must never be revealed.

Chu Xiongzhao nodded and explained, ”It cannot be opened. Our ancestor, Emperor Zhuanxu, instructed me to take the Emperor’s Yellow Seal to seek refuge with King Wen of Zhou. Then I was to build this ancient tomb here to eternally seal away the Emperor’s Yellow Seal.”

An unopenable treasure. What a damn nuisance, Chu Hao thought, slightly disappointed.

King Huai of Chu, who was killed by Xiang Yu, stepped forward and said guiltily, ”Later, the Ghost Offering Clan discovered this. Members of the Ghost Sacrificer Tribe coveted the Former Emperor’s treasure and caused trouble in secret, which is why I ordered the execution of nine generations of the Ghost Offering Clan.”

So this was the reason the Ghost Offering Clan was condemned to the extinction of nine generations?

The Chu Kingdom, with its eight hundred years of history, was a mighty nation. In those days, only the Qin Kingdom could rival it. The treasure left by the Former Emperor could not be trifled with. Although the Ghost Offering Clan had been important to the Chu Kingdom, their wild ambitions to usurp the Chu kings gave the Qin Kingdom the opportunity to annihilate Chu in one fell swoop.

The Ghost Offering Clan truly deserved to die.

Chu Hao asked, ”Where is the Emperor’s Yellow Seal?”

Chu Xiongzhao replied, ”It’s in the hands of the Mermaid Clan.”

To give something so important to the Mermaid Clan...

Chu Xiongzhao explained, ”The Mermaid Clan has good intentions, so the Emperor’s Yellow Seal was entrusted to them for safekeeping. However, it cannot remain with the Mermaid Clan now that this place has been discovered by the outside world. Others might find it.”

Who are ’they’? Chu Hao wondered. He then thought of Little Ying. Could that woman have come to the ancient tomb because she knew about the Emperor’s Yellow Seal?

”That would be terrible,” Chu Hao muttered.

All the kings looked at him.

Chu Hao said, ”Previously, a mermaid came to the ancient tomb.”

Upon hearing this, Chu Xiongzhao’s already pale complexion turned even whiter as he said, ”That was not a mermaid. She’s from the Black Shark Clan of the Mermaid Tribe. I sought refuge with King Wen of Zhou in those years to avoid them.”

Could it be that Little Ying took away the Emperor’s Yellow Seal?

Chu Xiongzhao anxiously said, ”You must stop her. The Emperor once said that there is a seal beneath the treasure. If it is broken, Foreign Ghosts will appear, bringing calamity to all living beings.”

Hearing you say that, it feels like the heavy responsibility of saving the world is all on my shoulders.

Isn’t this just dooming the descendants?

Chu Hao felt a pang of frustration, and just then, the System beeped with a notification.

System prompt: ”Little Ying found the Emperor’s Yellow Seal, triggering a chain of S grade missions. Guard the treasure for a full year to succeed.”

System prompt: ”Completing the guard mission will reward you with 8,000,000 Experience Points.”

System prompt: ”Completing the guard mission will reward you with two Diamond Treasure Chests.”

System prompt: ”If the guard mission fails, a Heavenly Rank, Divine Ghost level mission will be triggered.”

Chu Hao: ”...”

Chain S grade missions, and Divine Ghost level missions? This is utterly ridiculous.

He had encountered a Transcendent level mission once, which involved establishing a Yang Realm Underworld. So what level is a Divine Ghost mission?

Chu Hao hastily asked, ”System, if you screw me over again, we’re going to have a problem! Tell me now, after Super S missions, what other mission levels are there? So I know what I’m up against.”

Not to be outdone, the System replied, ”Dad, let me tell you, after S grade, there’s SS grade, Black Rock level, Silver level, Platinum level, King level, Transcendent level, and Divine Ghost level.”

Chu Hao felt dizzy. A mission even higher than Transcendent level?

System: ”From Black Rock level to Divine Ghost level, there’s Earth Rank and Heavenly Rank.”

If it’s not guarded well, wouldn’t that be the end of the world?

Damn it all! The Emperor’s Yellow Seal must be found.

Chu Hao hurriedly said, ”Kings, there’s no time to waste. I will send you to be reincarnated. The Emperor’s Yellow Seal has already been found; I need to go after her.”

The kings nodded. They had been guarding the Emperor’s Yellow Seal for generations, and it was time for them to be reincarnated.

Opening the Merit Gate, he sent the kings to reincarnation.

”Ding... Completed an AA grade mission, saving the kings, and received 5,000,000 Experience Points.”

”Ding... Completed an AA grade mission, and gained 100,000 Merit Points.”

”Ding... Completed an AA grade mission, and obtained a Diamond Treasure Chest.”

”Ding... Congratulations to the Host for advancing to Level 9.”

System prompt: ”After Level 9, change of profession. The Host is encouraged to continue striving.”
