Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 939: 938 He went to see some woman.

Wen Ran glared at him fiercely, placed the documents she had grabbed back on the desk with a huff, and stopped paying attention to him.

A trace of indulgence swept through the bottom of Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, and he turned back to continue working at his desk. The atmosphere in the office returned to normal.

Wen Ran did not ask Mo Xiuchen what he had said to Li Yaqing just now or what the outcome was.

Although his kiss had left her somewhat infatuated, she was clearer than anyone that Mo Xiuchen had deliberately diverted her attention so that she would not be upset about Li Yaqing’s phone call.

To say she didn’t mind at all would be a lie.

Even after so much time had passed, even if she could convince herself to stay resolute and unaffected by that vow with Mo Xiuchen, she still felt sad when Li Yaqing mentioned it.

Mo Xiuchen understood her feelings all too well, which was why he left the office to answer the call and arranged to meet Li Yaqing tonight.

With ten minutes left before the end of the workday, Mo Xiuchen packed up, stood up from behind his desk, walked over to Wen Ran, and dominantly took her mouse, saved the files, and shut down the computer.

“Ranran, I have an engagement tonight and won’t be able to have dinner with you,” he said.

Mo Xiuchen leaned over, one hand on Wen Ran’s shoulder, pulling her into his embrace, and looked down at her with tender eyes.

Wen Ran’s heart tightened slightly as she met his deep gaze and asked calmly, “Is it Li Yaqing you’re meeting with?”

Mo Xiuchen smiled, pulled her up from the chair, intertwined his fingers with hers, and looked into her eyes, “Ranran, my dinner with Li Yaqing isn’t about not wanting you to join, but I don’t want her to affect your mood.”

As he said this, a trace of heartache flickered in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes.

He felt guilty about leaving Ranran to dine with another woman, especially since Ranran had just said farewell to her best friend and now didn’t even have someone to confide in.

Yet, he felt he had to meet with Li Yaqing.

Although Li Yaqing wasn’t the only person who knew about Ranran’s poisonous oath, she was currently the only one using it as a threat. He did not want it to escalate into the rumor-filled situation from a few months back.

If that were to happen, the impact on Ranran would be even greater.

Wen Ran smiled faintly, pretending to be lighthearted, “I’m not jealous, but don’t agree to any unreasonable demands from Li Yaqing. I don’t want you to do anything you don’t want to, even if it’s for me.”

Doing so would cause her heartache.

Her voice paused, and she added, “Mo Xiuchen, even though I still feel sad when others bring it up, I won’t back down. Even if Li Yaqing wants everyone to know, it won’t bother me.”

She just didn’t want Mo Xiuchen to be threatened by Li Yaqing.

He was such a proud man and the one she loved most; she couldn’t bear to see him under someone else’s control.

Mo Xiuchen smiled gently and said calmly, “Ranran, I know where to draw the line. If Li Yaqing’s demands are excessive, I naturally won’t agree to them. If she wants to threaten us, she needs the capability to do so.”

A hint of coldness flashed in his eyes as he lowered his gaze.

Were it not for Li Yaqing’s call, he likely wouldn’t even remember her existence. In Mo Xiuchen’s view, aside from Wen Ran, other women held no place in his heart.

“Mhm.” Wen Ran’s eyes sparkled with a bright smile, “I trust you.”

Mo Xiuchen smiled affectionately, “Then I’ll take you home.”

“What time is your meeting with her?”

Stepping out of the office, Wen Ran asked gently.

“Six o’clock, I’ll take you home, and then go. It’s fine.”

Mo Xiuchen answered as if it were nothing to him. He had arranged to meet Li Yaqing at six. If he took Wen Ran home and then went back, being late was inevitable, but he wouldn’t feel guilty for making Li Yaqing wait. However, if he let Ranran go home alone, he would feel remorseful.

“Then you should go now. I’ll have Qing Feng come to pick me up.”

“It’s fine.” Mo Xiuchen did not accept her suggestion. How could Li Yaqing be as important as his Ranran?

But Wen Ran didn’t see it that way. After entering the elevator with him, she said softly, “Mo Xiuchen, I wish you would go and come back early.”

“I won’t take too long. I’ll take you home first, and I won’t come back too late.” Mo Xiuchen still insisted. Wen Ran had no choice but to let him take her home.

**

Worried that Wen Ran would not have an appetite eating alone, after Mo Xiuchen dropped her off at home, he called Gu Kai to keep her company.

Wen Ran had just entered the living room when she received a call from Gu Kai, telling her to wait for him; he would come over to eat with her.

“Brother, did Mo Xiuchen ask you to come?”

At the dinner table, after taking a bite of the dish Gu Kai had served into her bowl, Wen Ran got straight to the point.

Gu Kai raised an eyebrow, a charming smile creeping onto his lips, “Ranran, can’t it be that I just wanted to come over to your place for a meal on my own?”

Wen Ran smiled and said, “Mo Xiuchen dropped me off at home and called you right away, so when you told me to wait for you to have dinner together, I knew it was Mo Xiuchen who notified you.”

“Alright, I can’t hide it from you. Mo Xiuchen said he had a social engagement and was worried you wouldn’t feel like eating alone, so he asked me to come join you for dinner,” Gu Kai explained cheerfully after swallowing his food.

Although Wen Ran had guessed it was Mo Xiuchen who had asked Gu Kai to come, hearing it from him directly still moved her.

“Ranran, if Mo Xiuchen has a social engagement, since you’re his secretary, why didn’t you go with him?” Gu Kai asked curiously, his handsome face still wearing that charming smile.

Wen Ran’s eyes flickered. She masked it with a smile and said, “I’m not quite sure. Brother, eat more; this plate of chicken legs is specially made for you.”

As she spoke, she picked up a chicken leg and placed it in Gu Kai’s bowl.

Gu Kai’s eyes narrowed slightly, his lips curving into an interested grin, “Ranran, Mo Xiuchen couldn’t be meeting some woman, right? Tell me, and I’ll sort him out for you.”

Such a shrewd person as he couldn’t fail to realize what Wen Ran’s evasive eyes signified.

As Mo Xiuchen’s private secretary, even if the whole company didn’t know whom Mo Xiuchen was socializing with, she surely knew clearly.

Wen Ran cast her eyes downward, avoiding Gu Kai’s probing gaze, picked up some rice to eat and said lightly, “A woman named Li Yaqing, the editor of ** Weekly. She has been to the company twice before to interview Mo Xiuchen.”

“Li Yaqing?” Gu Kai furrowed his brow, pondering, “That name sounds familiar; I think I’ve heard it somewhere. ** Weekly specializes in interviews with elites from various industries, but Mo Xiuchen shouldn’t be interested in that. Unless, does this Li Yaqing have some extraordinary skill that has attracted Mo Xiuchen?”

Wen Ran knew that she just needed to tell Gu Kai a little, and he would analyze everything.

This was also the reason she hesitated earlier and did not want to tell him. Now, with just a few words, he had pinpointed the issue. She sighed softly and said, “Li Yaqing somehow found out about the promise I made in the past. She called me this afternoon, and then Mo Xiuchen arranged to meet her tonight.”
