Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 855: 854 Are you heartbroken for me?

In the restaurant, Wen Ran saw Mo Xiuchen walk in, and a smile immediately bloomed on her beautiful face as she asked softly, “Mo Xiuchen, is there something going on with the company?”

After Mo Xiuchen sat back down, he returned her smile tenderly, the indifference from when he was on the phone gone. His handsome features were warm and gentle, even his tone was tender and soft, “It’s nothing, Ranran, you don’t need to worry.”

“I really don’t want to delay your work. Mo Jingteng must not trust you the same as before, now that he knows you’re with me.”

Wen Ran had just overheard him talking about the acquisition of Haochen.

She was only worried that Mo Jingteng would hurt Mo Xiuchen, whose cold and ruthless nature was widely spoken of. In reality, Mo Jingteng was the truly cold and ruthless one, a man who would even exploit his own son.

When he found out Mo Xiuchen had lost his memory, Mo Jingteng wanted to control him. Now that he knew Mo Xiuchen was gradually slipping out of his control, knowing Mo Jingteng’s malicious nature, he certainly wouldn’t let things go easily.

...
Mo Xiuchen saw the worry in Wen Ran’s eyes, and with a light smile, he reassured her, “Ranran, Mo Jingteng is lying in a hospital bed right now and can’t do much to me. Before, because I had lost my memory and didn’t know the full story, I was used by him.”

“Mhm.”

His words had a calming effect. At least, when Wen Ran heard him speak so calmly about Mo Jingteng not being able to do much to him, her worries really started to dissipate.

With a smile for him, she lowered her head and concentrated on her breakfast.

Seeing her intently eating her meal, Mo Xiuchen smiled indulgently and quietly started his own.

For a while, the dining room was silent, with only the occasional light clinking of spoons against bowls, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere between them.

After breakfast, just as Wen Ran was about to clean up the dishes, Mo Xiuchen grabbed her hand and said, “Ranran, take a break, I’ll wash them.”

“It’s not necessary.” Wen Ran smiled at him, enjoying doing these things for him. These little tasks of everyday life became joyful because of his presence.

“No, let me wash.”

Mo Xiuchen authoritatively pushed her out of the dining room, seated her on the sofa in the living room, and gently said, “Ranran, rest here for a while. Once I’m done with the dishes, let’s go out and pick strawberries.”

Wen Ran looked at him with amusement as he turned and went back into the dining room to clean up.

He carried the dishes into the kitchen, and Wen Ran followed. Seeing him roll up his sleeves to wash the dishes, she suggested, “Mo Xiuchen, you’ve always had a housekeeper come regularly to clean the villa. Why don’t we call her over to help for these two days?”

Back when it was just Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen, he would often do these household chores himself.

At that time, Wen Ran felt more happiness, but now, she didn’t know why, watching him, a grown man, do these chores made her feel not only happiness but also a sense of heartache for him.

She actually couldn’t bear to have Mo Xiuchen do these things anymore.

Mo Xiuchen turned and caught the fleeting look of distress in Wen Ran’s eyes, his heart warmed. He shook his head, smiling, “Ranran, I don’t want to be disturbed, be good and wait for me outside.”

“I’m not going outside.”

His use of the word ‘be good’ strangely touched Wen Ran’s heart. Not only did she not leave, but she stepped forward, wrapped her arms around the slim waist of Mo Xiuchen from behind, and buried her face in his broad back.

Mo Xiuchen’s tall frame went rigid for a moment.

The next second, he let out a light chuckle, took a towel beside him to wipe his hands, turned around to look at Wen Ran, and said, “Ranran, if you keep this up, I won’t be able to control myself.”

“…”

Wen Ran’s face suddenly flushed red, yet she didn’t let go of him. Instead, she held on even tighter and said playfully, “I don’t care, I just don’t want you washing dishes. Or, I could wash them with you.”

“Ranran, are you feeling sorry for me?”

The corners of Mo Xiuchen’s mouth curved up into a gentle arc. He knew that Ranran felt sorry for him.

However, he wanted even more to hear her say it.

Wen Ran nodded, “Yes, I’m worried about you, so I’ll wash with you, okay?”

“Okay. Just stay with me like this,” Mo Xiuchen bent down to kiss her forehead, then turned around, and Wen Ran thought he had agreed to her joining him in doing the dishes.

But when he turned his back, she realized that what she meant by ‘staying with him’ was different from what Mo Xiuchen had in mind.

She wanted to help.

Mo Xiuchen, however, really only wanted her company, not needing her to do anything other than just being by his side.

As Wen Ran thought about it, the corners of her mouth involuntarily lifted into a smile; well, since he didn’t want her help, she decided not to offer it. Moreover, she found that cuddling with him felt like possessing all the happiness in the world.

She suddenly didn’t want to let go.

Since it didn’t interfere with Mo Xiuchen doing the dishes, Wen Ran just kept holding him like that, the scent of happiness spreading through the air, weaving a net that kept all unrelated people and things out of their world.

Mo Xiuchen deliberately slowed down his pace because he also liked being embraced by Ranran like this; it signified that Ranran was gradually overcoming her psychological barriers, willing to slowly open up to him.

What could have been a few minutes’ job took Mo Xiuchen a full twenty minutes.

During those twenty minutes, he didn’t want to think about anything; his heart was full of contentment.

After finishing the dishes, Mo Xiuchen dried his hands, turned around, and smiled at Wen Ran, “Ranran, let’s go pick strawberries now.”

G City, Kangning Hospital

Gu Kai returned to his office room after his rounds, taking the rare opportunity to be lazy.

He made himself a cup of coffee, thought for a moment, and then took out his phone to dial Luo Haofeng’s number.

After a few rings, Luo Haofeng’s clear and cheerful voice came through, “Hello, Ah Kai.”

Gu Kai’s mouth curved lightly, “Ah Feng, are you busy?”

“Just finished a meeting, what’s up?”

Luo Haofeng answered back.

Gu Kai took a sip of his coffee without putting it down, his spoon idly stirring in the cup as he said nonchalantly, “Nothing much, just that last night I had dinner with Ah Jin, and we ran into Qi Meiling and Bai Xiaoxiao.”

“Ah Kai, did Qi Meiling cause trouble for Xiaoxiao?”

The moment he mentioned Bai Xiaoxiao, the cheerfulness in his voice was immediately replaced with tension and concern.

“Sort of, but Bai Xiaoxiao has someone she’s seeing now, so you don’t need to be so anxious,” Gu Kai spoke unhurriedly, but Luo Haofeng on the other end of the line changed his expression instantly.

After a moment of silence, Luo Haofeng’s voice came through again, now with a hint of constrained emotion, “Qi Meiling didn’t bully her, did she?”

“No, don’t worry, Bai Xiaoxiao isn’t someone who lets herself be bullied, and besides some fighting skills, Qi Meiling might not necessarily get the upper hand,” Gu Kai reassured, remembering what Bai Xiaoxiao had said the previous night, he felt that Luo Haofeng’s worries were unnecessary.

“That’s good,” Luo Haofeng surprisingly didn’t ask further about the man Bai Xiaoxiao was dating. Learning that she had not been at a disadvantage, he asked no more.

Gu Kai sighed softly and said, “You should probably send Qi Meiling to City C, her staying in G City is bound to cause trouble.”
