Chapter 1398: Chapter 1400 Preparing for the Medical Alliance_1

Yakebu saw Bai Ruozhu lead people in and immediately rushed up excitedly, kneeling and bowing repeatedly to Bai Ruozhu.

”Madam Bai, under such dangerous circumstances last time, you still thought to save me. I was so scared that I didn’t even get a chance to say thank you. I’ve been searching for you these past few days, and hearing that you had moved into the royal palace, I had no way to get a message to you. It’s finally today that I get to see you again, and I need to properly kowtow to you,” Yakebu said excitedly.

Bai Ruozhu thought about how Yakebu had actually fainted from fright that day; it wasn’t a matter of not having a chance to thank her. She couldn’t help but laugh and said, ”You were an innocent person, how could I have not saved you? It’s nothing serious, you don’t need to worry about it.”

”No, no, one should repay a life-saving grace with a spring of gratitude. I, ****, thought about it afterward, and if it had been someone else, not to mention saving me, they might have killed me instead to settle accounts. But I swear, it really wasn’t me who reported to the Holy Hall, I’m not one of their followers,” Yakebu said.

Bai Ruozhu did trust him on this point; otherwise, she wouldn’t have come again. She had Jianqi investigate the incident afterward; it was the Holy Guard sent by Honglian who were secretly watching them, not Yakebu who had reported them.

”I **** was also a bit frightened, so I’ve come today to introduce a business opportunity to you, to help you make a profit,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile as she gauged Yakebu’s expression.

Yakebu showed a flattered look, and his eyes squeezed into slits by his round face gleamed with excitement—the very picture of a merchant sighting a business opportunity.

”This, how could I accept, what kind of business is it?” Yakebu asked in a rush.

”I’ve found that there are few people in the Western Regions who cultivate medicinal herbs. Even the medicinal materials from the Ao Family in the past were mostly gathered from mountains, right?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Not knowing what she meant, Yakebu nodded and said, ”The people of the Western Regions don’t like to seek medical treatment or take medicine. If they grew them, they couldn’t sell them; it’s better to grow food.”

”So I want you to buy some land and get the farmers below to cultivate medicinal materials. The produce can be provided to the Ao Family, and of course, I’ll send people to collect it every season.” As she was planning the Medical Alliance, she had already considered the source of medicinal materials. Now that she wanted to expand the Medical Alliance to the Western Regions, the source of medicinal materials became an even bigger issue.

”This, if what we grow turns out to be of no use, and you transport them all the way back to Danliang Country, the cost would be too high, right?” Yakebu asked uncertainly.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, her face showing a confident light, ”That’s the case now, but it might not be so in the future. If you don’t seize the opportunity now, you can’t blame me for not reminding you. I could take care of this matter myself, since I have plenty of people beneath me who can handle it. But I’m calling on you to do it because, on one hand, you are from the Western Regions and it’ll be more convenient for you to manage, and on the other hand, it’s because I see that you are a grateful person.”

For some reason, although Yakebu had originally felt that this method wouldn’t work, and that the young Madam Bai in front of him was not made for doing business, as he looked into Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, he was infected by the confidence in them and started to feel that perhaps there was something to this idea?

”You can choose a site for the medicine field close to the Danliang border. If they really can’t be sold in the Western Regions, you can transport them to Guangqi Town in Danliang; I have my people there, and they buy up high-quality medicinal materials all year round,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Upon hearing this, Yakebu felt even more reassured, ”Alright, I’ll follow Madam Bai’s advice and start on this immediately. But it takes time to grow medicine, so Madam Bai will have to wait a while.”

”That’s why you can start by acquiring medicinal materials now. The prices are very low at the moment. Or, you can organize the mountain people to gather herbs from the mountains. I’ll also send people to teach you the methods of processing the medicinal materials. Are you afraid you won’t make any silver then?” Bai Ruozhu asked with a smile.

”You, you mean to send someone to teach the preparation methods? Aren’t those secrets not to be shared with outsiders?” Yakebu’s eyes widened in disbelief. There were indeed very few doctors in the Western Regions, as many had been recruited by the Holy Hall. And the skill of preparing medicinal materials was something only doctors knew.

Bai Ruozhu showed an indifferent expression, ”What’s the big deal? I’m also planning to establish a branch of the Medical Alliance in the Western Regions, where the Alliance will teach members some Medical Skills, and members will discuss Medical Skills regularly. This way, doctors won’t just keep their Secrets to themselves and can make progress instead of working in isolation.”

This time, Yakebu’s jaw almost dropped, ”Are you, are you serious?”

”I can teach my Medical Skills to members. If you were a doctor, I could teach you right now, but it’s hard for a non-doctor to learn all at once,” Bai Ruozhu said, quickly taking out a silver needle. Seizing the moment when Yakebu was distracted, she suddenly pricked his hand, ”You have a weak stomach. You should eat less greasy food from now on and more vegetables.”

Just as she pulled out the needle, they heard Yakebu let out a loud fart. His face turned red all the way to his neck. He didn’t have time to react to what had happened when his stomach started rumbling with the urge to defecate, even though he had been constipated for three days!

”Madam Bai, I will be right back. Please excuse me,” Yakebu wished he could find a hole to crawl into, yet he was also delighted by the relief he felt at that moment.

”Go ahead, I’ll be leaving first and will come back to talk more with you later,” Bai Ruozhu said, pinching her nose as she quickly stepped out. This Yakebu really didn’t care about his health, just smelling that fart was like being exposed to biochemical weapons.

Once she left Yakebu’s shop, Bai Ruozhu gave Jianqi a signal with her eyes. She reckoned that the timing should be about right by now; the great elder must have sent Xuan Jizi and his men after them by this time.

Indeed, before they even reached Main Street, they heard the sound of a sword whistling from behind—someone was launching a sneak attack!

Jianqi drew his sword with a clang to block the attack. Turning around, he saw the fiercely murderous Xuan Jizi, while Lin Lian charged from another direction, her sword tip aiming straight at Bai Ruozhu.

”Lin Zhu, give me your dog’s life!” Lin Lian’s acting was superb. Whether it was the cries she made or her expressions, she perfectly portrayed a revenge-seeker’s intense hatred.

Bai Ruozhu found it amusing inside, but she had to look panicked on the outside. In fact, when she had discussed this mission with Lin Lian earlier, Lin Lian had been worried about not performing well, so Bai Ruozhu told her to think of her as the enemy who had poisoned her, assuring her that the hatred would be enough to deceive the great elder and the others.

As expected, Lin Lian’s portrayal was incredibly convincing.

Chenfeng stepped in and blocked Lin Lian’s sword. Then suddenly, eight Holy Guards joined the fray, intending to hold Chenfeng and Muyu down to give Lin Lian a chance for revenge.

As expected, Chenfeng and Muyu were quickly tied up in the fight, and Jianqi was also entangled with Xuan Jizi. The situation was looking very bad for Bai Ruozhu. Jianqi turned to shout at Bai Ruozhu, ”Madam, we’ll hold them off, you go first!”

Bai Ruozhu feigned desperation and nodded at Jianqi, ”Be careful!”

As she spoke, she pretended to try to escape, but Lin Lian’s figure flashed, blocking her path.
