Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1379: Chapter 1381: True Ability, False Ability_1

Honglian plucked a thin willow branch from a jade bottle she was holding in one hand and sprinkled some of the water from the bottle onto the couple, then she clasped her hands together and started reciting a spell.

So this was the so-called prayer. Bai Ruozhu quietly squeezed her eyes at Jiang Yichun, signaling him to wait and watch the show.

In no time at all, the pained expression on the woman’s face began to diminish, and eventually, she got up from the ground on her own, with a look of surprise on her face, she said, ”I’m cured, my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore!”

Of course, it wouldn’t hurt anymore. The poison laid by Honglian had been neutralized by her own hand, so naturally, this was the result.

The onlookers praised the Holy Maiden for her prowess, saying she was a person who could communicate with the divine.

Unfortunately for Honglian, before she could fully capitalize on her victorious result and turn the situation around, the woman suddenly started to vomit. It wasn’t much at first, but after retching for a while, she vomited another mouthful, and then continued to look as if she would vomit again.

No one knew what the woman had eaten earlier, but now the smell of her vomit was extremely unpleasant, and the stench quickly spread, causing the onlookers to cover their noses and back away.

”Ah, why isn’t she healed yet?” someone cried out in shock.

The woman looked pitifully at Honglian, then retched toward her, and immediately after, vomited another mouthful.

Honglian was, after all, a young maiden, and having been brought up in comfort, she couldn’t endure the sight of the woman vomiting so disgustingly in front of her.

She couldn’t cover her nose and mouth like the others did, but the disgust in her eyes gave her away, especially when she stepped back, refusing to come any closer.

Bai Ruozhu secretly chuckled to herself; Honglian was merely playing at being a ghost all along. Even if she understood medical skills, she couldn’t compare to a real doctor. A real doctor, having seen many more patients, wouldn’t feel such disgust, would he?

This was only vomiting. If Honglian were to see someone afflicted with running sores from the plague, wouldn’t she avoid them even more?

As for the poison Bai Ruozhu had given the woman, it was indeed venomous, and she was certain Honglian wouldn’t be able to neutralize it. The reason for using a poison that induced vomiting was to clear more thoroughly the toxin previously administered by Honglian.

Honglian administered a type of poison that rapidly caused intense abdominal pain for her own benefit, but her method of detoxification wasn’t tailored to the toxin – she merely used her generic clean bottle water as an antidote. It was like when her subordinates were poisoned: eating her Detoxifying Pill could provide relief, but later she would still need to prepare an antidote specific to the poison ingested. Otherwise, the residual poison would not be completely cleansed.

And though it seemed like the woman had been detoxified by Honglian on the surface, her stomach pain relieved, the long-term effects would lead to serious issues in her stomach due to residual toxins. By then, treatment would be difficult.

Bai Ruozhu was clearing out the residual toxins from the woman’s stomach through vomiting. Of course, this was also because the poison was recent, and it hadn’t fully penetrated deeply into her digestive system. Otherwise, vomiting alone would have been useless.

Honglian was somewhat troubled at the moment. She took the willow branch from the jade bottle and splashed the medicine on the woman again, but to no avail—the woman continued to retch, and after a while, she vomited again.

The murmurs from the bystanders grew louder, and many began to speculate about what could be wrong with the woman.

”It won’t do, you must have done something to anger the deities. They refuse to bless you and cleanse you of this karma,” Honglian, seeing no effect after some time, quickly regained her composure and reverted to an excuse she had used in the past.

The woman, having heard this, burst into tears and struggled to say, ”Holy maiden, I have not done any evil deeds; please beg the gods to spare me this one time.”

Honglian let out a deep sigh, her face showing that kind of compassion for the suffering of humanity, ”Even if you did not commit sins in this life, the retribution of past deeds is a barrier of one’s own making.”

Bai Ruozhu listened until her teeth ached; to think that they could make up such an excuse when unable to cure, how utterly shameless!

She had heard from Chu Hai that when his mother was the holy maiden, blessing simply involved helping the common folk with minor illnesses and calamities, reinforcing their health a bit. But if it was a serious illness, they still needed to seek medical treatment. However, as time went by and the great elder took control of the Holy Hall, their actions became more extreme, to the extent that they even forced many hospitals to close, leaving doctors with the choice of either joining the Divine Hall or facing death. This greatly disappointed Fen Wan, who had long harbored thoughts of leaving the Holy Hall early.

Now it seemed that the great elder was working hard to create the conditions that prevailed today.

The onlookers started pointing fingers at the woman, as if the ”cause from a past life” mentioned by Honglian underscored that the woman was a sinner deserving her current suffering.

Bai Ruozhu stepped forward and approached. Unlike Honglian, who avoided the woman, Bai Ruozhu reached out to support her. As a doctor, she would not and should not despise a patient.

”Auntie, I am a doctor from Danliang Country, let me take a look at you. Your stomach might just be upset,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The woman had by now lost all hope and cried, ”If the holy maiden is powerless, how can a doctor succeed? This is the result of my own misdeeds; it’s divine punishment.” After saying this, she began to retch again.

Honglian suppressed her hatred; she had already guessed that Bai Ruozhu must have done something, so she decided she could not let Bai Ruozhu treat the woman.

”If the gods wish to punish her, you must not go against their will. You’re a foreigner; you don’t understand, and I won’t blame you. But please don’t blaspheme our gods,” Honglian said with a slightly colder tone, resembling a devout Daoist.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t get angry and replied with a smile, ”I too am one touched by the holy spirit, having lit the red incense. How could I possibly blaspheme the gods? It seems the gods also wish for me to aid the people of the Western Regions. Besides, the holy maiden didn’t initially say that blessings were forbidden. Misinterpreting the intentions of the gods happens, wouldn’t you agree?”

”How dare you be disrespectful towards the holy maiden and the Divine Hall!” The handmaiden beside Honglian shouted sharply, then turned to the people, ”Don’t be fooled by this foreigner; she is deliberately opposing the holy maiden.”

Bai Ruozhu ignored her and suddenly, with a swift motion, threw a medicine pill into the woman’s mouth. Then she took a silver needle and thrust it forcefully into the woman’s belly.

”What are you doing!” Honglian yelled out in panic, not expecting Bai Ruozhu to suddenly take action, and so quickly at that. Even though she was closest, she could no longer stop her.

The Holy Guards suddenly crowded around, and Jiang Yichun swiftly moved to Bai Ruozhu’s side, watching the Holy Guards approaching with a cold gaze, ”If anyone dares to touch my wife, feel free to try!”

”Oh my, such a long needle going in is going to kill someone!” The onlookers exclaimed in shock. Medical skills in the Western Regions were backward, and the doctors there had not used acupuncture before, so the common people had no knowledge of the Acupuncture Technique.

”It’s all over now; perhaps the woman would have gotten better just by retching, but now her stomach is surely going to rot,” someone nearby said.

Even the vomiting woman screamed in fright, but her expression quickly froze, and she said uncertainly, ”Eh? It doesn’t hurt? How can it not hurt?”

Bai Ruozhu, ignoring the comments of those around her, swiftly retracted the silver needle and said to the woman, ”Auntie, you’re not vomiting anymore, are you? Do you feel any other discomfort?”
