Chapter 1370: Chapter 1372: Divine Punishment in the Torrential Rain_1

”Send Chencheng and Muyu to secure the rooftop, while Jianqi and the masked Xuan Jizi deliberately break into the Holy Hall to trigger the protective spells, then the three of them can flee, drawing many Holy Guards from the temple in pursuit.”

Seeing that the entrance was now unattended, Bai Ruozhu quickly pulled Jiang Yichun outside and handed him a brush, saying, ”Be careful to coat the nostrils, eyes, and mouths of the qilins on both sides, while I take care of the entrance. Don’t wander too far from me.”

Jiang Yichun did as instructed and finished quickly. Turning his head, he saw her writing something on the ground. The medicine was still wet, and upon a glance, his eyes crinkled with a smile.

As she reached the last character, the earlier ones had already dried and vanished from the ground, as if nothing had ever been there.

Having finished the task, the sound of footsteps approached, signaling the Holy Guards’ return, having failed to capture their targets.

Jiang Yichun wrapped his arms around her, and they darted forward, disappearing into a back alley in the blink of an eye.

After a wait, the others began to return and regroup, finding that things had proceeded very smoothly. Bai Ruozhu said she and Jiang Yichun were tasked with dealing with the used medicine jars, but instead, she secretly stashed them away in her Space when no one was looking.

Back at Qingyou Hall, following a night of good sleep, the next day Bai Ruozhu started at the sky frequently, muttering, ”Why hasn’t it started to rain yet?”

Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but feel a neck ache watching her do this all day, and in the afternoon, sure enough, Bai Ruozhu began to rub her neck.

Suddenly, it was the following day. Within Shensi Hall, Jun Haoran’s bedroom was empty. He had sent all the palace maids away, and soon, a figure glided in—none other than Master Hao Feng, who had visited the previous night.

”Master Hao Feng, Lady Bai has prepared an antidote for me, claiming I need to take three doses. After this first one, I do feel much better indeed,” Jun Haoran whispered.

Master Hao Feng had been frequently appearing in the shadows to talk to the sovereign these past days and knew of the poisoning by Ci Zichou. She examined him closely, as Lady Bai had instructed, and confirmed the poisoning, feeling deeply ashamed for not having noticed it earlier.

The sovereign did not blame her but instead advised her to take care of herself and not to overexert her mind, as Lin Zhu was seeing to the matter of the antidote.

Master Hao Feng checked the sovereign’s pulse carefully, and after a while, her face showed admiration. ”Indeed, the poison has been suppressed. Lin Zhu’s medical skills are truly exceptional.”

Hearing this, the sovereign felt reassured, ”With those words from you, Master, I feel even more at ease.”

At that moment, the sound of thunder came from outside, accompanied by flashes of lightning. The sovereign glanced outside the hall and said, ”It’s going to rain. Lady Bai said rain would bring an interesting spectacle, and I am truly looking forward to it.”

Master Hao Feng also looked outside, contemplating the sovereign’s words, and remembered her conversation with Chu Hai about taking another look. Were all these preparations meant for her to see?

Inside Qingyou Hall, Bai Ruozhu was like a merry little bird, tugging at Jiang Yichun, ”Hurry, follow me out of the palace. Don’t miss the show.”

”Running around in the rain? Watch out, or you’ll catch a cold,” Jiang Yichun teased.

”No matter, we’ll just stay at a nearby restaurant. Hurry!” she called out, urging Jianqi and the others, with even Chu Hai and Qingyan joining the crowd, curious to see the spectacle.

The group discreetly left the palace and reached a restaurant not far from the Holy Hall, settling down before the heavy rain began to pour.

At this moment, many people on the streets began to run, some hurrying to return home, others looking for a place to take shelter from the rain when suddenly someone shouted, ”Call out, what is that!”

”My God, why is there a red glow above the Holy Hall? Is it a divine manifestation?” someone exclaimed.

The people of the Western Regions, who worshipped the deities of the Holy Hall, saw this and stopped seeking shelter from the rain; instead, they kneeled on the ground one after another, paying homage to the Holy Hall with peace of mind.

”The deities have manifested! The deities have manifested!” someone began to shout, and their voice spread quickly, from one to ten, ten to a hundred, and soon the people of Gaochang City poured out of their homes, braving the heavy downpour as they made their way towards the Holy Hall, continuously kowtowing along the way to express their piety.

Bai Ruozhu and the others were sitting in a private room on the third floor of the Restaurant, with a very wide view, looking down upon a street packed with people but not at all chaotic. It was as though they were being directed by someone, very orderly moving toward the Holy Hall, kowtowing and worshiping all the way.

”This is the power of faith, this... is truly shocking.” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but sigh, the people’s simple faith in the deities was being exploited by those with ulterior motives; such a scene was moving but also filled with sorrow.

At that moment, thunder roared, and the rain kept pouring down. The rain atop the Holy Hall had turned red, red as if it were bleeding. The thunder frightened many, and then those gathered near the Holy Hall suddenly began to shout, ”My god, look at the Qilin, blood is flowing from its eyes, mouth, and nostrils, it is divine punishment, the deities are angry!”

The people who had been kneeling were suddenly panicked, and some even collapsed on the ground. What had provoked the wrath of the deities?

And at that moment, freshly red blood characters appeared on the ground at the main entrance:

Great Elder Yehuang, acting improperly, committing adultery and siring a daughter, declared as Holy Maiden.

Harming the loyal and good, murdering the innocent, practicing Evil Technique, creating flesh corpses.

Using the name of the deity, not adhering to the divine decree, now heaven’s retribution descends, to serve as a warning to others.

Those closest trembled as they read it aloud, and soon, others also read it, interpreting it as the divine will. In the Western Regions, these words held more weight than even the king’s Holy Edict. Quickly these forty-eight characters were memorized and spread rapidly, far and wide.

Only then did the people inside the Holy Hall notice the anomaly. The Holy Guards came out in the rain trying to wash away the red characters with brushes, all the while shouting to the people, ”This is a deliberate act by someone, do not be deceived!”

Unfortunately, no matter how much they scrubbed, they could not wash away the red characters. Even when people used soapberry to scrub, those characters lay there in vivid red, along with the blood from the Qilin’s eyes, mouth, and nostrils, shockingly striking.

The red glow and rain from the rooftop of the Holy Hall made it impossible for anyone to believe it was man-made. Who could have done this? This was indeed decree of the deities!

Suddenly, someone leaped up, rushing over to push the Holy Guards who were brushing the red characters off the ground, shouting, ”That is the divine will, how dare you erase it? Do you dare to disobey the divine decree like Yehuang?”

The Holy Guards tried to push the man away, but other people surged forward too; the angry crowd shoved and hit the Holy Guards, accusing them of being accomplices to the great elder Yehuang, helping him to desecrate the deities.

Watching the chaos unfold below, everyone in the private room was stunned; this was the Lady’s plan, but how did the Lady accomplish it?

Qingyan couldn’t help but ask, ”How did you do it?”

With a smile, Bai Ruozhu said, ”I am a person favored by the deities. What is there I cannot do? Perhaps this is indeed the divine will?”
