Chapter 1369: Chapter 1371 Got the Item_1

Bai Ruozhu subconsciously touched her Adam’s apple as they stared at her, feeling a sense of gloom. Had she known not to make it so convincing, she wouldn’t have to endure their teasing. Wasn’t she allowed to feel embarrassed, too?

”Young master, I’ve got the item,” Lin Lian said, trying to suppress a laugh and especially emphasizing the words ”young master.”

Bai Ruozhu glared at her but felt a surge of happiness inside. With this item, the return journey would be even more secure.

It turned out that before departing, Bai Ruozhu had arranged for Mr. and Mrs. Xuan Jizi to handle another matter. After completing it, they were to head directly to Gaochang to meet up with her.

This began with Bai Ruozhu outsmarting someone to obtain a chest full of treasures, among which was a sheepskin scroll related to the treasure that Tang Yin was searching for, but there was also another item of value.

That was a design for a carriage, which on the outside looked nearly indistinguishable from an ordinary horse carriage. But the interior was significantly different. Using mechanical technique, the carriage’s speed could be doubled. Moreover, when combined with special materials, the carriage could be made as firm as a rock.

In addition, it had a mechanism that could shoot arrows, but not many, only enough to provide an element of surprise.

Initially, Bai Ruozhu hadn’t paid much attention to this design. She always considered a horse carriage merely a means of transportation and saw no need for it to be as luxurious as a BMW or Mercedes. However, after deciding to take Fen Wan back with her, she revisited the blueprint.

If they had this carriage to transport Fen Wan, they would be better equipped to ensure her safety in the event of an enemy ambush on the road.

But there was a core component of the carriage that required very high craftsmanship, beyond what ordinary craftsmen could deliver. The blueprint also noted that only craftsmen from the Gongsun Family, experts in mechanical devices, were capable of producing it.

When Bai Ruozhu asked whether Mr. and Mrs. Xuan Jizi knew of the Gongsun Family, Xuan Jizi smiled and said that it so happened he had an old friend from the Gongsun Family.

So, before setting off, Xuan Jizi and Lin Lian left earlier to find the Gongsun Family and have this core component made. Bai Ruozhu had initially just tried her luck, thinking that if it didn’t work out, it would simply have been a trip for Mr. and Mrs. Xuan Jizi.

To her surprise, they had actually completed it, and she felt a wave of excitement. She had always been puzzled by the ancient mechanical techniques, and now she would finally have the chance to witness their unique aspects for herself.

Xuan Jizi handed over a wooden case to Bai Ruozhu, who opened it to find a very delicately crafted metal component. Though she didn’t understand it, she could see it was the same as what was drawn on the blueprint.

”Put it in the carriage and try it out, then we’ll know if it works,” Xuan Jizi suggested with a laugh, stroking his beard. ”My friend even made an extra one and completed the carriage. We had a chance to see it before we left, and indeed, it’s impressive. He said to thank you for giving him the opportunity to see such precious blueprints.”

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes shone with eagerness to go immediately and try it out in the carriage they had brought, but to avoid discovery by the people from the Holy Hall, she had to hold back for the time being.

While Xuan Jizi and others went to have the core component made, they didn’t construct the rest of the carriage; it would have been inconvenient to travel through the mountains and rivers with a fully assembled carriage.

The remaining parts of the carriage were prepared on Bai Ruozhu’s end, that is, the carriage that Chu Hai had built on their journey to Gaochang City. Without that core component, it was just an ordinary horse carriage.

Bai Ruozhu gave them a few more instructions, confirmed the time for action, and the meeting place before bidding farewell and leaving the restaurant.

She tucked the box into her sleeve, thought for a moment, and then placed it into the space.

When she returned to Qingyou Hall, Bai Ruozhu tossed the core component to Jiang Yichun to play with while she busied herself with preparing medicine.

Jiang Yichun looked at the ”toy” that was brought to entertain him, feeling even more displeased, and said, ”I must go on the operation tonight!”

Bai Ruozhu scoffed, ”Who said you can’t go? It’s a secret operation and we have to wear masks. Are you planning to be lazy by not going?”

”Alright, you really have me under your thumb now. I get injured and you take away my command. What am I to do?” he joked as he went over and wrapped his arms around her slender waist.

”Ouch, don’t move!” Bai Ruozhu cried out, followed by a muffled hum from Jiang Yichun as a bit of red powder spilled onto his arm.

Bai Ruozhu quickly took off her gloves, pulled him aside, and started cleaning and disinfecting the area, then gave him a Detoxifying Pill to eat, before complaining somewhat, ”I told you not to come over, why are you acting like a child?”

Jiang Yichun looked at his arm, now red, feeling a prickling pain, and suddenly felt a desire to cry without tears.

Seeing him like this, she knew he felt she was neglecting him. Plus, these past few days he had pretended his injuries hadn’t healed and hadn’t left the house, he was getting too idle, which made him feel even more that she was ignoring him.

She moved closer and pecked him on the face with a ’mwah’, ”There, don’t be gloomy anymore. A kiss makes the pain go away.”

Jiang Yichun kept a straight face, ”The mouth!”

Bai Ruozhu was stunned for a moment, and it took her a while to realize he meant that a kiss on the cheek wasn’t enough, and he insisted on a kiss on the mouth. What a stubborn and haughty man!

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her red lips against his. He immediately without any hesitation took hold of the back of her head, turning the kiss into something deeper and longer, and was reluctant to let her go after a long while.

She rubbed her somewhat swollen lips and said helplessly, ”Then I’m going to prepare the medicine, we need it urgently tonight.”

At this moment, Jiang Yichun’s mood had already cleared up. Though his arm was reddened by the medicine, it was fine as long as his sleeves covered it. He then lounged on the soft lounge, lazily watching her busily going about her tasks.

His wife looked so captivating when she was concentrating on her work, he could never get enough of watching her...

That night, Jianqi and the others gathered at the door of Bai Ruozhu’s house as planned, and Bai Ruozhu handed them jars of wine, whispering, ”Two jars each, be very careful not to get it on yourselves and return the jars to me after use. Don’t leave any evidence behind.”

”Understood,” Jianqi and the other two replied in unison.

”Chenfeng and Muyu, sprinkle it on the rooftop of the outer hall of the Holy Hall, spread it evenly, but don’t overdo it in any one spot. Make sure the liquid doesn’t drip down,” Bai Ruozhu instructed carefully, ”The door is the trickiest to deal with. Jianqi and Xuan Jizi will distract them, while Achun and I take care of the door.”

Jianqi, feeling somewhat uneasy, said, ”Master, why don’t you tell me what to do and you stay back instead?”

”This requires specific knowledge of pharmacology, and it’s a bit complicated. Don’t worry about me; Achun and I have a clever plan.” She winked at Jiang Yichun, implying that if no one was around and something happened, they could always hide in their ’Space’ couldn’t they?

After hearing this, Jianqi pursed his lips and said no more. The light in his eyes dimmed slightly, but Bai Ruozhu, who was dividing the wine jars among them, did not notice Jianqi’s unusual reaction.

They then quietly left the royal palace and met up with Xuan Jizi and Lin Lian at the designated location. Bai Ruozhu explained the plan to them, and the group quietly headed towards the direction of the Holy Hall.
