Chapter 1395: Chapter 1397: The Condition Sangta Offered to the Monarch_1

By the time Lin Lian returned to Honglian’s side, Honglian suddenly opened her eyes and asked, ”Are you eager for revenge?”

Lin Lian appeared frightened, ”Holy, Holy Lady, how did you know?”

Honglian chuckled lightly, and instead of answering her question, she said, ”Don’t worry, the opportunity will come. Since she doesn’t leave the royal palace, there isn’t much you can do for now, but as soon as she leaves, I will notify you immediately.”

Lin Lian showed a look of joy, ”Thank Holy Lady for making this possible.”

”Alright, you may leave,” Honglian said lazily.

As Lin Lian left, she began to ponder how she could make the assassination of Bai Ruozhu look more convincing if they were indeed sent to carry it out.

Being a traitor certainly wasn’t easy!

...

Inside the Yangxin Hall, the Sangta Prince had an audience with the sovereign alone. After the two exchanged formal greetings, the sovereign was taken aback by the scar on his face as he looked up.

The scar started from the right of Sangta’s eyebrow, slanted across his nose, extended to his left cheek, and ended at his lower jaw.

The scar was deep, and although it had scabbed over, the wound was wide open, greatly disfiguring his face and adding a sense of murderous aura to him.

Jun Haoran felt that although Sangta previously had some air of a Barbarian Tribe, he was handsome and, in a way, quite an attractive man. His trip to the Western Regions was for an alliance initiated by the Holy Hall, and although no conclusions had yet been reached, many Noble Ladies in Gaochang City, upon seeing him once, had changed their minds, eager to take the place of the Royal Family and enter into an alliance.

But now, Sangta was disfigured, and the scar was too ferocious; it would probably be enough to make the Noble Ladies cry.

Sangta, noticing the sovereign staring at his face, didn’t get angry. He didn’t even blink and even said with a chuckle, ”I hope my current appearance hasn’t scared the sovereign, my apologies.” With that, he even bowed his fist to Jun Haoran in a gesture of respect.

Jun Haoran felt somewhat embarrassed and coughed twice before saying, ”No worries. Prince Sangta, you are still recovering from a severe injury. What brings you to the palace at this time?”

Sangta smiled slightly, pulling at the scar on his face, making it appear even more vicious, ”I have come regarding the alliance marriage. Does the sovereign have any arrangements?”

Outside the hall at that moment, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun were seeking an audience with the sovereign. They asked a guard, who said, ”Prince Sangta of the Barbarian Tribe has just gone in for an audience. Shall I announce your arrival now?”

Thinking of how Sangta had saved her life and received a slash on his face, Bai Ruozhu’s expression dimmed, ”No need, let’s not disturb the sovereign while he has a visitor. We can wait.”

Jiang Yichun, observing her expression, also did not wish to confront Sangta face-to-face, so he simply took her hand and began to wait outside the hall.

Seeing their request, the guard did not ask any further questions.

Where the two were standing wasn’t close to the interior of the hall, and with the main gate being closed, they normally wouldn’t be able to hear anything from inside. However, Bai Ruozhu had good hearing, and by concentrating, she vaguely overheard quite a bit of the conversation.

”Prince Sangta should know that the political marriage was proposed by the Holy Hall, and as for whom you ultimately marry, I’m afraid the Holy Hall will have to provide the candidate,” the monarch thought in turmoil. How could he have forgotten about the marriage alliance? If the great elder were to fall, Sangta might indeed come demanding a wife from him. What would he do then?

Princess Yingtong would definitely not be willing, and even if she were, he couldn’t bear to give her away. The other princesses were still too young, so he could only choose from among the aristocrat families. But given Sangta’s current appearance, he feared no one would be willing, right?

”Your Majesty, the political marriage is a matter for the Royal Family. How can you willingly be led by the nose by the Holy Hall? This doesn’t seem like you,” Sangta’s voice carried a mocking tone, causing the monarch’s face to darken.

”However, I also don’t wish to trouble Your Majesty. You must know by now that I have my eyes set only on Lin Zhu.” He laughed while pointing to the scar on his face and added, ”I would go through fire and water for her without hesitation.”

The monarch was shocked, ”Lin Zhu is Bai Ruozhu’s wife, and they even have a child. Prince Sangta, it’s best if you pull back at the brink of the precipice.”

”In our Barbarian Tribe, there are not so many rules. As long as I find her worthy of me, even if she is married and has children, I can still take her. Let me marry Lin Zhu and I promise that for ten years, the Barbarian Tribe will not harass any part of the Western Regions.” His laughter resumed, ”And for as long as I live, I am willing to maintain an alliance with the Western Regions and create grand plans together!”

Jun Haoran was stunned to hear this. Ten years without harassing the people of the Western Regions, this... this would be tremendous good news for the people in the remote areas of the Western Regions.

The ferocity of the Barbarian Tribe’s Beast Team was exceptional, and whether it was forests, grasslands, or even deserts, these were their battlefields. The forces of the Western Regions simply couldn’t defend against them.

For a moment Jun Haoran hesitated. He knew that although the Barbarian Tribe was fierce and savage, they took promises very seriously, and they would surely fulfill any agreements made.

Outside the hall, Bai Ruozhu’s hand tightened slightly. Jiang Yichun, who was holding her hand, noticed the change and couldn’t help turning his head to look at her, wondering what was happening with his woman.

He saw anger in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, as well as shame and even some conflict.

Yes, Bai Ruozhu felt that she owed Sangta a favor. Aside from wanting to prepare medicine for him, she felt she must find an opportunity to repay that favor. But hearing Sangta’s recent words, she also thought he was despicable and unscrupulous, and she felt somewhat disheartened by the monarch’s hesitation.

”Prince Sangta, you jest. Lin Zhu is not from the Western Regions. A melon forced off its vine is not sweet. If you force her, you’ll only make Lin Zhu hate you, and also hate the Western Regions,” the monarch hesitated for a moment but then found his way back to the right path.

As the monarch, he should consider the people first, but he had also seen the prowess of both Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun. He did not want to gamble the future of the Western Regions on such a roll of the dice.

”You refuse to help me then?” Sangta narrowed his eyes, ”Then I’ll have to choose the princess you love most, Princess Yingtong. But as you know, I do not like her, and when it comes to women I don’t like, I often gift them to my brothers or subordinates for our collective enjoyment.”

”You!” The monarch was furious, ”Sangta, don’t push too far. You were invited here by the Holy Hall, do not think I am afraid of you!”

Sangta glared at the monarch and roared, the sound akin to a real tiger’s roar, reminding one of his giant white tiger.

Hearing the disturbance, the guards outside rushed in, with Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun following close behind.

”Sangta, what are you doing!” Jiang Yichun bellowed, having already found the young man disagreeable.

To Sangta’s surprise, Bai Ruozhu was also present. A trace of astonishment crossed his face, but he quickly regained his composure. However, that brief change in expression and his ferocious facial scars pained Bai Ruozhu’s eyes.
