Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 570: Chapter 572: Dengdeng’s Impressive! Scaring Away the Bad Auntie

Bai Ruozhu’s heart couldn’t help but race as she heard her mother chatting warmly with Wu Wanqing.

Her mother must think that Wu Wanqing is the daughter of Mr. Wu and must be fond of her. But considering that Wu Wanqing had spoken about Jiang Yichun’s memory loss and had used the poisonous insect detoxification as a way to get close to him, could she really refrain from spilling more to her mother?

The thought of Wu Wanqing being so close to her son, combined with her mother’s apparent lack of guard against her, sent Ruozhu’s anxiety up another notch. Although she and Jiang Yichun had not established for sure that Wu Wanqing had cast a spell on him, her gut told her that Wu Wanqing was very dangerous!

”This child is really adorable, may I hold him?” Wu Wanqing asked softly from outside the room.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly yelled from inside the room: ”Mother, are you taking Dengdeng outside? Let me see Dengdeng, I miss him so much!”

She was still recuperating from her injuries and couldn’t make any abrupt movements or talk loudly. But her outburst led to another fit of coughing, leaving a sweet metallic taste in her mouth.

Hearing the commotion, Lin Pinger hurriedly brought Dengdeng into the room, chiding her, ”I brought the child to you, what’s the rush? You’re not a child anymore, you should learn to be steady.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t hold Dengdeng now so Lin Pinger sat next to her with Dengdeng. Seeing his mother, Dengdeng whimpered and started to cry.

”Good boy Dengdeng, mommy isn’t ignoring you. Once mommy gets better, she will take you out to play every day.” Bai Ruozhu comforted her son lovingly.

Just then, Wu Wanqing walked into the room and said anxiously, ”Ruozhu, you mustn’t hold the child, otherwise, your injury might get worse. Let me hold him.”

”No need!” Bai Ruozhu blurted out in her anxiety. Lin Pinger looked taken aback at her side and glared at Bai Ruozhu, hinting that she was being impolite.

Bai Ruozhu quickly corrected herself and said: ”This child is a handful, it wouldn’t be good if he peed on Miss Wu, he has even peed on the third young master before.”

Wu Wanqing’s face changed slightly, not sure whether she was worried about being peed on, or unhappy at the mention that the ”third young master” had been peed on before.

Lin Pinger agreed and quickly added: ”Yes, it would be embarrassing if he dirtied Miss Wu’s clothes.”

”It’s nothing, you are being too polite.” Wu Wanqing recovered quickly and smiled gracefully at them.

Bai Ruozhu did not want to make unnecessary conversation, so she pulled Lin Pinger’s arm and asked, ”Mother, didn’t father come with you? Did you visit Xiaosi? Is he feeling better?”

She knew Xu Huilin would have made arrangements to take care of Xiaosi, but she still wanted to see him.

”Your father went to accompany Xiaosi, he’ll come over later. The doctor said Xiaosi has to stay in bed too, you can go see him once you’re a bit better.” Lin Pinger said with a sigh.

Bai Ruozhu nodded. Now that they were all patients, no one was in a position to visit the others.

Wu Wanqing, who had made no move to leave, seemed to be patiently listening to the mother-daughter conversation. Seeing that they had paused, she smiled at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Why don’t I see you asking about my third senior brother? It was for saving you that his internal injuries flared up. He almost lost his life, but he has good luck.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled back and said: ”I’m well aware of his condition. He also needs to stay in bed, so I’ll go see him when I’m a little better.”

She realized why Wu Wanqing came. Wu Wanqing must have been concerned about Jiang Yichun using his inner strength. But since Jiang Yichun returned alive, she wanted to determine what had happened. She probably thought Jiang Yichun might have told Xu Huilin something, but it didn’t seem like Wu Wanqing found her answer from him.

Of course, Bai Ruozhu would not be foolish enough to tell her the truth, so she just laughed and said, ”The good are naturally protected by heaven. The third young master is probably one of those with remarkable fortitude.”

Wu Wanqing smiled and nodded, but she didn’t say more as she seemed lost in thought, probably trying to decipher the meaning behind Bai Ruozhu’s words.

Lin Ping’er, who had learned that the ”Third Brother” in Wu Wanqing’s mouth was her savior, listened happily, thinking to herself that she had indeed read people right. Who other than those genuinely caring for Ruozhu would risk their lives for her?

Suddenly, Lin Ping’er sniffed and started laughing, ”Oh dear, this little rascal has made a poop.”

”Mom, did you bring the diapers?” Bai Ruozhu asked urgently.

”Yes, I did. I’ll change him now. You sit tight, Ruozhu. We don’t want to exacerbate your injury,” Lin Ping’er said, pressing on Bai Ruozhu who was about to get out of bed.

Wu Wanqing too caught a whiff of the stench. She didn’t have kids of her own, and handling toddler poop wasn’t something she took well to. The sight of Dengdeng’s pants pulled down, revealing a lump of yellow poop, made her adamantly sure she couldn’t stand it any longer.

”Well, I’ll leave you guys to it. I’ll go check on Second Brother first,” Wu Wanqing said, and left as if running for her life.

Bai Ruozhu watched her leave, giggling to herself. Just a poopy diaper was enough to make her run? Clearly she’d never been a mother. Besides, these days Dengdeng only drank some rice gruel and ate a little egg yolk or vegetable mash. His poop wasn’t even that smelly.

Once the diaper was changed and Dengdeng was comfortable again, he began to babble nonsensically. Bai Ruozhu caressed his little head, thinking: you naughty boy, you scared off that annoying woman with just a single poop.

When Bai Ruozhu heard no one outside the room, she whispered to her mother: ”Mom, try not to get too close to Wu Wanqing in the future, and don’t let her hold Dengdeng.”

Lin Ping’er looked at Bai Ruozhu in surprise, asking: ”Why? Isn’t she a good woman? I felt she was very humble and virtuous.”

”She said a few things to me privately, attempting to ruin my relationship with my savior,” Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and spoke in a lower voice, ”Also, she cultivates bugs. Don’t let her touch you guys, and don’t consume anything she has provided.”

Lin Ping’er jumped in fright; she didn’t precisely understand what cultivating bugs meant, but she could tell it wasn’t a good thing.

”Just now, her maid served me tea, and I’ve already drunk it,” Lin Ping’er turned somewhat pale as she said this.

Bai Ruozhu reached out to check her mother’s pulse. Regrettably, she was unfamiliar with insects and therefore couldn’t comprehend anything specific.

She thought for a moment and then said, ”She probably won’t dare to act recklessly. Later, I’ll find someone to help you check. So, don’t let her outward appearance dupe you.”

Lin Ping’er nodded forcefully, ”I understand. Henceforth, I’ll try to make excuses to avoid her.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed in relief, and played with Dengdeng for a bit. Dengdeng always tried to snuggle in her arms, but she had been seriously hurt and couldn’t breastfeed him after having her medicine. Hence, she had to divert his attention and keep him away from wanting to feed.

”If it becomes too much, just stop breastfeeding. We can hire a long-term wet nurse for Dengdeng,” Lin Ping’er said, looking at her daughter with concern.

Bai Ruozhu considered her mother’s words, ”I am still able to express milk. It’s just that I am worried about the medicine affecting Dengdeng. Once I stop taking the medicine in a couple of days, I’ll be able to breastfeed him again. By then, I can make up with some soups to promote lactation. Everything will be back to normal soon.”

”Daughter, I am just worried that it’s too hard for you,” Lin Ping’er sighed.

”It’s okay, I still don’t trust others feeding Dengdeng. And since he has started solid foods, we can slowly stop the night feeds. So, it’s not that hard for me.” Bai Ruozhu said, poking Dengdeng’s little hand with her finger, finding his tiny dimples amusing.

At this moment, footsteps echoed from the outside. It was Bai Yihong who had come over. When he saw that Bai Ruozhu was awake, he opened his mouth to say something but eventually swallowed his words.
