Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 557: Chapter 559 Fox Visits, He Misses You

Because Fu Shengqing’s voice was particularly loud after he drank wine, even Fang Guizhi, who was sharing a meal with Bai Ruozhu in the kitchen, could hear him. She grumbled, ”This Fu Shengqing is really annoying. I think that Master Qin has quite the ambition, his words about him are too excessive. How is it that scholars from farmlands are meant to be looked down on?”

Nowadays, Fang Guizhi learned to speak formally from the Bai family. When she said this, she somewhat had an articulation of righteous words. Bai Ruozhu was amused by it and pointed at her head, saying: ”Are you planning to help Master Qin?”

Fang Guizhi’s face immediately turned red. ”Ruozhu, you’re teasing me again. Be careful with your words.”

Bai Ruozhu started to laugh mischievously.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door. A clear voice rang out, ”Is Doctor Bai home?”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched. She hadn’t seen the person yet, but she could tell from the sound that it was Senior Fox.

She had no choice but to get up and open the door, asking: ”Why are you here? What’s the matter?”

Xu Huilin saw at a glance that there were quite a few young scholars in the main hall. A smile appeared in his eyes. This made Fang Guizhi, who was following behind, shiver coldly because every time Bai Ruozhu would mischievously bully people, she would have this same mischievous smile.

”Doctor Bai has guests at home. I hope I’m not disturbing you?” Despite his question, he had already swaggered into the yard, heading towards the main hall.

Bai Ruozhu caught up with him, noticing something in his hand and knowing that he was here to give a New Year’s gift, so she couldn’t stop him.

His appearance immediately attracted everyone’s attention. First of all, he was good-looking, his crescent-shaped eyes when he smiled left a deep impression on people; secondly, he had an impressive bearing. He was wearing a high-quality, sapphire blue robe. His hair was adorned with a white jade hairpin, the perfect embodiment of a jade-like young master. A jade pendant hung from his waist, the jade was emerald green and transparent, it was obvious at first glance that it was a valuable item.

This person looked just like an aristocratic young master, hence glances of curiosity from Bai Zepei’s peers. They were all guessing why he wanted to see Bai Ruozhu.

Xu Huilin bowed smilingly towards the crowd, ”I apologize for disturbing your meal, seems like I’ve come at an inappropriate time.”

Bai Zepei stood up to return the greeting and then turned to Bai Ruozhu to ask, ”Who is this?”

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly looked at Xu Huilin, she didn’t know if she could casually disclose Xu Huilin’s identity.

”My name is Xu Huilin. I am here on behalf of my brother to thank Doctor Bai. Doctor Bai had cured my brother’s long-standing ailment, preventing him from becoming reclusive. All of us from our family are very grateful.” Xu Huilin introduced himself generously, although his words seemed not that reliable.

As he spoke, he handed the items in his hand to Bai Ruozhu, saying: ”This is a token of appreciation from my brother. Please accept it, Doctor Bai.”

Bai Ruozhu reached out to take them, her nostrils twitching slightly, and immediately knew that these were high-quality medicinal materials. A smile formed on her lips; indeed, only Jiang Yichun truly understood her.

”Please thank your brother on my behalf. I will make a visit to express my gratitude another day.” Bai Ruozhu greeted him with a bow.

But Xu Huilin looked at her and said, ”My brother says he feels stifled and wants you to check up on him again. May I know if Doctor Bai is free later?”

Bai Ruozhu wanted to laugh. Clearly, Jiang Yichun missed her. He couldn’t leave the Wu Residence, so he had made Xu Huilin come. And Xu Huilin, instead of just delivering the message, had to make a show of it in front of everyone.

”I’ll go with you right now. Please wait a moment while I get ready.” Bai Ruozhu said as she went to remove her apron. She retired to her room to arrange her hair neatly and changed into her outer clothing.

When she emerged, she found to her surprise that Xu Huilin had even joined them for a drink, and everyone’s attention was on her. They were visibly stunned.

During their previous visit, Bai Ruozhu was cooking and was dressed in work clothes, her hair simply tied up and she was wearing a large apron. It was the same this time. But now, she was going out, especially to meet Jiang Yichun. Naturally, she was dressed up, evoking stunning looks from everyone.

Fu Shengqing looked at Xu Huilin and asked, ”Where does Master Xu live? Why does Miss Bai have to dress up so formally when she’s going to his house?”

Bai Ruozhu’s face fell, was Fu Shengqing ridiculing her? What was it to him whether she dressed up or not?

Xu Huilin feigned surprise and asked, ”Isn’t Doctor Bai always dressed like this? Perhaps Brother Fu has underestimated her? Doctor Bai’s medical skills are excellent, and she also owns the largest weaving shop in Beiyu City. Surely, you’re aware of this?”

Fu Shengqing’s complexion turned notably unpleasant. Made worse by the warmth of the alcohol he had drank, his face reddened like a pig’s liver, looking extremely ridiculous.

Bai Ruozhu signaled Xu Huilin with a glance and then excused herself to everyone before stepping out of the house.

Xu Huilin hurriedly followed, looking extraordinarily polite. However, to some people, it looked as though he was being obsequious.

Zhongshu knitted his brows, wondering where this new youthful aristocrat came from. He couldn’t help but ask Bai Zepei, ”Which family does Master Xu belong to? Could he be from the rice-trading Xu family?”

Bai Zepei shook his head, saying, ”Probably not. We don’t inquire about Sister’s patients’ identities, nor would we purposely associate ourselves with them.”

His intention was obvious, they wouldn’t take advantage of his sister’s medical treatment sessions to form relationships with patients.

Zhongshu remained silent, as he continued to drink and eat. Fu Shengqing, on the other hand, poured himself another drink, his gaze filled with fierceness.

...

After they stepped out of the main gate, Xu Huilin helped Bai Ruozhu into the carriage. He followed her in while sitting behind her. As the gender segregation was not strict in Danliang country, it was acceptable for the two of them to ride in the same carriage.

”You are too heartless. My junior brother has been yearning for you day and night, and you don’t even bother to visit him. He’s been missing you so much that it hurts.” As the carriage took off, Xu Huilin started to tease her.

Bai Ruozhu cast a side eye at him, choosing not to respond to his comment. She knew it too well, ignoring him was the best treatment.

Xu Huilin didn’t seem annoyed either. He chuckled and went on: ”Are you looking down on my junior brother because he is no longer a virgin? Well, I am still a virgin, what do you think of that?” He flirtatiously winked towards Bai Ruozhu while saying this.

Bai Ruozhu knew perfectly well that she was not Mary Sue in a romantic setting where every man would fall for her. She scoffed and replied: ”You should be asking this question to Wu Wanqing. Are you afraid to?”

Xu Huilin’s expression stiffened for a moment, before he awkwardly replied: ”Just as poisonous tongued as that fellow, maybe it’s better not to talk to you.”

They quickly arrived at the Wu Residence. Xu Huilin didn’t accompany Bai Ruozhu inside. He mentioned that he had other matters to attend to. If it were not for Jiang Yichun’s compulsion, he wouldn’t have made this trip.

Bai Ruozhu smirked. She wondered who it was that wasted time drinking.

She didn’t bother to banter with Xu Huilin, and swiftly entered Jiang Yichun’s courtyard. To be honest, she had missed Jiang Yichun deeply, but...

She didn’t need to be announced on her entrance to the courtyard, and walked directly towards his house. As she pushed the door open, a large hand suddenly pulled her in, and her mouth was instantly covered...
