Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 547: Chapter 549: The Second Brother is Surely Made for an Officer

A cry of surprise rang out from the yard, ”Ruozhu is back, let me open the door!”

Bai Ruozhu recognized Fang Guizhi’s voice and couldn’t help but burst into laughter, then a series of footsteps sounded as Fang Guizhi rushed to open the door.

”Wow, Ruozhu, you finally came back. Did you encounter any trouble in Fengye Village?” Fang Guizhi asked as she grabbed her arm.

Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong informed everyone that Bai Ruozhu had gone back to Fengye Village to discuss matters with the clan leader.

At this time, everyone in the family rushed over, pulling Bai Ruozhu left and right to ask questions, Lin Ping’er holding Dengdeng also came out of the room.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes reddened at the sight of Dengdeng. She didn’t bother talking to the others, rushing over and taking Dengdeng from her mother, tears streaming down her face.

Dengdeng had suffered a lot in the past few days. He didn’t like drinking milk from bottles at all, though he still kind of liked playing with bottles. But how could it compare to his mother’s milk?

So, upon seeing his mother, Dengdeng cried pitifully. His small head kept burrowing into Bai Ruozhu’s chest, clearly expressing his desire: I want to feed!

Bai Ruozhu sniffled, raised her head and said to Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong: ”Dad, Mom, I’ll go back to the room for a while, I’ll come out to see you later.”

Lin Ping’er’s eyes also reddened, she said, ”Go quickly, the child has not been willing to drink the nurse’s milk these days, he has lost weight.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, brought Dengdeng back into the room to feed him. Over the past few days, she had been milking herself, which had resulted in a decrease in her milk supply. After eating for a while, Dengdeng became somewhat dissatisfied, even raising his small hand in a fit of anger.

Bai Ruozhu was both amused and moved by his little temper, she whispered: ”I thought you missed your mom, turns out you just wanted to breastfeed. Such a typical little foodie, with a surprisingly large temper.”

Dengdeng ignored her, switched to the other side and continued to eat. His reddened eyes were especially heartrending.

Bai Ruozhu, stroking Dengdeng’s small head, felt her heart soften again.

”Good baby, it’s mom’s fault, tomorrow I will take you to play with the man who wears the mask, okay?” Bai Ruozhu whispered.

Of course, Dengdeng wouldn’t respond to her, he fell asleep while eating.

Whenever Dengdeng fell asleep, Bai Ruozhu would place him back onto the Kang, block it with a quilt and pillow on the outside, and then busy herself in the yard. But today, she couldn’t bear to put Dengdeng down, so she took him directly to the main hall.

Seeing her carrying the child over, Lin Ping’er knew that she couldn’t bear to be away from the child. She pointed to the Kang beside her and said, ”Put Dengdeng there, let’s talk softly.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, she could also watch the child this way.

Everyone else in the room couldn’t help but lower their voices. Fang Guizhi, who was most at ease with Bai Ruozhu, pulled her aside and asked, ”What exactly did you go back to Fengye Village to do? You were away for so many days. Don’t you know that Dengdeng cries at night when he can’t see you and it takes a long time to soothe him to sleep?”

Lin Ping’er hastily patted Fang Guizhi, signaling that she shouldn’t have said this. Wasn’t she making Ruozhu feel bad?

Seeing Bai Ruozhu’s eyes reddening again, Fang Guizhi couldn’t help but stick out her tongue, chiding herself for speaking too quickly.

Bai Ruozhu made up a few sentences on the spot to get rid of the people in the room, but facing her parents, she had to fabricate another set of explanations. It was really hard work.

”Why were you away for so long? You didn’t even send a message home. Your dad and I were worried to death. We even asked your second brother to inquire at the Meng Residence twice,” Lin Ping’er whispered.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head slightly, ”Mom, let’s not mention this again. The task is finished. I rushed back and didn’t have time to bring you anything.”

Bai Yihong quickly waved his hand, ”Don’t bring anything, otherwise it will be hard to explain if they ask.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, even if she wanted to bring something, she couldn’t.

Then, she chatted with her parents for the afternoon, mainly asking if anything had happened during her absence. She couldn’t ask whether Li Yi had found her home, but she just asked if there were any strange people or events, saying that she was afraid of Hua Xiangrong’s competitors doing something underhanded.

Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong both shook their heads, saying that nothing had happened. Apparently that counterfeit Yun Xiaorong was doing pretty well. Fang Guizhi had surreptitiously gone to take a look, the stuff there could not be compared with the Hua Xiangrong of the Bai Family, but the prices were about half as cheap, so naturally, there were people who were tempted to buy because it was cheap.

”Apparently the things inside all use the simplest needlework techniques, but they copied our styles. For example, making scarves, shawls, and such.” Lin Ping’er said, curling her lips in clear displeasure.

Bai Ruozhu patted her mother’s hand, saying, ”It doesn’t matter, we are originally serving high-end customers, his actions won’t affect us.”

Lin Ping’er nodded, as if all the crocheting techniques were known among their own people.

By dusk, when Bai Zepei returned from the Study Palace, his face changed immediately upon seeing Bai Ruozhu, and then he coldly called Bai Ruozhu into his room to talk.

”You were having a good time out there, enjoying yourself and forgetting to come back, weren’t you?” Bai Zepei said with a cold face.

Bai Ruozhu knew her second brother had misunderstood, and couldn’t help but say with a bitter smile, ”Second brother, if only you knew how complicated this matter is. But this time I really did the right thing. I did a great favor.”

Bai Zepei raised his eyebrows, ”Tell me about it.”

Wu Yunfeng didn’t allow Bai Ruozhu to spread the word, but Bai Ruozhu knew that her second brother knew the importance, so she told him about her trip to Xuantian Mountain. Only, she omitted the dangerous parts, afraid it would upset her brother.

”I originally wanted to go to Meng Residence for help, but the messenger was blocked on the way. Luckily, I ran into the daughter of the senior official of the Ministry of Public Affairs on the way. Fortunately, Li Yi has now fled to Xuantian Mountain.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Bai Zepei’s eyebrows knit tightly, ”Don’t mention this to anyone else. The highest official in the Ministry of Public Affairs is the History officer, followed by two Public Affairs officers on the left and right. The position of the Right Public Affairs officer is very high. If this gets out, the Ministry of Public Affairs will lose face, and others will take advantage of this.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly nodded, secretly admiring the sharpness of her second brother’s political acumen.

”I’ll find a way to explain to the Meng family. They won’t specifically ask you about it. You should visit the Meng Residence tomorrow, and think about what to say to Madame Meng.” Bai Zepei said.

Bai Ruozhu got a headache just thinking about having to concoct another story.

When she came out of her second brother’s room, she saw Fusa standing in the yard in a daze, as if she had something to say. Bai Ruozhu gave her a smile, these few days must have been hard on Fusa. She saw Bai Ruozhu but couldn’t mention it, and had to hide it from Bai Ruozhu’s parents; she must have been holding it back.

She went over and linked arms with Fusa, saying, ”Let’s take a walk in the backyard.”

Fusa quickly nodded her head. When they reached the backyard where there was no one else, she anxiously asked, ”Ruozhu, what happened that day? You scared me to death!”

Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment before saying, ”Some bad guys wanted to catch me, so I couldn’t come home for a while, for fear of implicating you. I sent a letter to the city lord, asking him to send someone to the shop to pick me up. This matter involves high-ranking officials at court, so don’t mention it to anyone. As far as anyone else is concerned, you haven’t seen me these past few days.”

Fusa was so anxious her heart was thumping. She nodded vigorously and said, ”I know, I didn’t tell anyone, I’ll forget about this now!”
