Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 537: Chapter 539: Captured Alive by Li Yi, First Confrontation

Before venturing out, Bai Ruozhu had drawn a few talismans. The drawing was careless, which truly justified the name Ghost-Drawn Talisman. She thought if there really was no way out, she would get into the space. She might as well take out a talisman and shout, ”Obey the my command swiftly!” and it should sure scare these ancient people off.

By then, no one would reckon she had a strange treasure, they would just think that she practiced some sort of Taoist art and escaped using talismans.

While she was hesitating, the inspecting soldier sniffed, pointed to a woman, and ordered, ”Take her away, she smells of milk.”

The woman flushed in embarrassment and shouted in anger, ”I am a wet nurse from the Li family in Anyuan Town! What are you arresting me for? What’s wrong with a woman breastfeeding a child now?”

The soldier ignored her, continued sniffing, and the other two women’s faces changed drastically. They subconsciously covered their chests, looking at the soldier as if staring at a predator.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart skipped a beat; did she use the drug to cover her scent? Thinking about it, she immediately shook her head. It was too late. But it seemed that these people had arrested more than one woman who smelled like milk. If she was arrested, she would not be discovered immediately. It’s better not to act rashly and try to escape later.

It quickly became her turn. As expected, the soldier detected her scent and had her taken away. She also imitated the woman next to her and shouted, ”My aunt is critically ill, and I am on my way to see her. Why are you arresting me?”

A soldier snapped: ”Quiet down! We’ll let you go once our check is completed.”

Then Bai Ruozhu and the woman were taken into a yard. Only when she entered did she find that there were a lot of women standing inside with worried faces.

”Sir, these women reek of medication and milk.” The soldier with a keen sense of smell said flatteringly to the superior who walked in.

Bai Ruozhu looked at the man and couldn’t help being shocked. This man in his early thirties had a strong build, hair conveniently bundled with a jade band, somewhat softening the stern aura he exuded.

His facial features were sharp, an extremely masculine appearance, even slightly aggressive. Bai Ruozhu’s eyelids twitched. She felt that this man held an exceptional position, and it was very likely that he was the functional officer, Li Yi!

Jiang Yichun said her disguise could deceive most people, except for the likes of Li Yi and a few experts. How unlucky could she be, meeting Li Yi when she had barely acted.

”Functional Officer Li, do you need me to continue the search?” The soldier asked, fawningly.

Turns out he really was Li Yi!

Li Yi nodded, ”Continue the search, don’t miss any possibilities.”

A woman couldn’t stand the tense atmosphere, she sobbed, crying and saying, ”What do you want from us? Are you going to kill us?”

Li Yi cast a cold glance. He didn’t even need to give a stern look. But the woman involuntarily shivered all over, not daring to cry anymore.

This was an impressive aura, one precipitated from decisiveness and years of survival within piles of corpses!

This was indeed a difficult opponent. Bai Ruozhu regretted not having escaped at the city gate, it would have been much better than confronting such a person.

”Start interrogating. What’s their background? Who are their family members? Where is the smell on their body coming from? Ask everything clearly.” With a cold face, Li Yi finished speaking and turned away.

Bai Ruozhu let out a sigh of relief. He was the functional officer, a high-ranking official indeed. How could he personally interrogate these women?

The soldiers began their interrogation. Bai Ruozhu took advantage of the crowd’s distraction and gradually moved towards the backyard. As long as she moved out of their line of sight, she could think of ways to flee.

She was not so unfortunate this time. The crying and wailing women gave the soldiers a headache. Amidst the chaos, no one noticed her. She successfully moved out of the yard and ran into the deserted backyard.

After considering for a while, she pulled out a sheet of talisman. In case someone was watching from a distance, it wouldn’t be good if they saw her disappear out of thin air. Just as she was about to wave the talisman, the back of her neck suddenly tightened and her feet left the ground!

If she were not in dire straits, she would have thought it was Jiang Yichun playing tricks on her, because this act of lifting her by the collar was too much like Jiang Yichun’s!

She twisted her head instinctively and glared venomously. But her facial expression froze immediately. The one hoisting her up was no other than Li Yi, who had left early.

Bai Ruozhu almost broke down in tears. She should have taken a look at the almanac. Today was truly an unlucky day.

Li Yi snatched the talisman from her hand. With one hand holding the back of her collar and the other hand holding the talisman, he started to study it.

Luckily, his attention was on the talisman, and he didn’t pay close attention to Bai Ruozhu. He hadn’t found her in disguise yet.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart was pounding. She could hear Li Yi’s icy voice next to her ear.

”What is this? And who are you?”

Bai Ruozhu shrank her neck, showed a terrified look and said, ”Sir, spare me! This talisman was given by my father to save my life.”

Li Yi abruptly threw Bai Ruozhu on the ground. Bai Ruozhu fell flat on her butt, cried out in pain from the fall.

”Tell me, who are you really? There is no such person in this town, is there?” Li Yi asked coldly.

”I’m just passing through here. My father is an elder on Mao Mountain. My aunt is ill, and I need to visit her in Anyuan Town.” Bai Ruozhu thought that mentioning the Mao Mountain Elder might intimidate him.

Li Yi suddenly sneered, ”An Elder of Mao Mountain, having a daughter? You’re not very good at lying.”

”Look at what you are saying. Even a eunuch can find a sweetheart, so can’t my father sneak down the mountain and father a child?” Bai Ruozhu’s tone resembled a casual country woman, which earned her a disdainful stare from Li Yi.

Suddenly, Li Yi’s eyes narrowed, radiating dangerous light. He was in front of Bai Ruozhu in a flash, once again lifting her up. But this time he didn’t hold her by the collar, instead, he grabbed the front of her dress.

”Do rustic women have such bright eyes?” Li Yi coldly asked, pulling Bai Ruozhu’s face close to get a clear look.

He pulled her so close that Bai Ruozhu could even feel his breath against her face. She had a horrible feeling. It was all over; she couldn’t be apprehended; otherwise, she wouldn’t even have time to get into the space!

Thinking about this, she suddenly swung her hand. Li Yi reacted quickly and grabbed her wrist. His grip was too tight, and her wrist instantly turned purple. But Bai Ruozhu didn’t flinch. On the contrary, she seemed pleased, yes, she was smirking as if her trick had succeeded.

Li Yi’s eyes widened slightly. He quickly covered his nose, but it was too late...
