Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 528: Chapter 530: Leave in Three Days, Being Watched by Someone

Wang Tuhu began to cry, a manly butcher to cry such tears, surely would draw mockery, yet no one in the crowd laughed at him. Some soft-hearted women even shed tears in sympathy.

Wang Tuhu cried as he kneeled on the ground. He also urged Kankan to kneel, and together they knocked their heads three times on the ground before Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu quickly stood up from the diagnosis table, rushed over to help them up and sternly said, ”I simply lent a helping hand, don’t kneel before me. Otherwise, it would be seen as cutting my life short, and my master would blame me.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Tuhu and Kankan painstakingly got up. Both of them had been sobbing so hard, their expressions filled with gratitude when they looked at Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu was touched, though she was also feeling a headache. She rubbed her temples and said, ”Don’t have the child cry anymore. His body is weak right now – what if he passes out from crying too much?”

When Wang Tuhu heard that this involved his son’s health, he immediately stopped crying. He pocketed the silver that Bai Ruozhu had given back to him, putting his arm around his son’s shoulder, he said, ”Kankan, stop crying. Keep this favor in mind. When you grow up, you must repay it.”

Kankan earnestly nodded. Bai Ruozhu beside them said nothing, knowing that after this farewell, perhaps there will be no more ”Doctor Zhuhua” in the world.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at Kankan’s hand and breathed a sigh of relief. She was the one who had bandaged it. She had a unique technique, and if it had been unfastened and re-tied, she would definitely be able to tell.

But Wang Tuhu brought his son over. It was probably time to change the bandage, right? The sutures on the wound hadn’t dissolved yet. What if someone saw them while she changed the dressing under their watchful eyes?

Thinking this, she said, ”Wang Tuhu, bring Kankan to see me later to change the bandage. His wounds are severe and need to be rinsed with a specific soup. I’m out of herbs right now. After I’m done with the consultations for the day, I’ll buy more from the pharmacy.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Tuhu hurriedly said, ”How could I let you make the purchase? Just tell me what herbs you need, and I’ll go buy them.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and gently shook her head, ”I’d better go.”

On hearing this, Wang Tuhu became anxious, ”It’s fine, let me at least do this much, right?”

Bai Ruozhu then had to take out ten taels of silver from her bosom, saying, ”Then take this silver to buy the herbs.”

Wang Tuhu was instantly deflated, realizing that she wanted him to stay back because the herbs were expensive and feared he might not be able to afford them. Wang Tuhu was almost moved to tears again.

”The medicine is brewed into a soup and will not be used just once. Getting you to pay the full price wouldn’t be fair.” After Bai Ruozhu finished speaking, she went back to her seat and continued seeing patients.

The people behind her realized that Doctor Zhuhua was paying out of her own pocket, and the medicine she used for Kankan was incredibly expensive. Thus, they all came to admire Doctor Zhuhua even more.

In reality, Bai Ruozhu feared that he would promptly make the purchase and then have her change the dressing- something she couldn’t do in public.

While Bai Ruozhu busied herself treating people in the Vegetable Market, a shadow passed by the street corner. A hunched and frail beggar, but from beneath his shaggy hair, a pair of keen, vigorous eyes shone bright.

Zhuhua, as rare as bamboo blossoming. Only she dared to enter this place. She was indeed the bravest woman he had ever seen, so bold that even he couldn’t help but admire her.

Bai Ruozhu had a feeling that she had stirred up the powers of the town. With her title as Doctor Zhuhua becoming so renowned, if Jiang Yichun didn’t hear the news, instead offending the underground powers of this place, she was going to be in serious trouble.

Thus, when the day turned dark, she stood up and said to those nearby, ”I’ve been offering free consultations for three consecutive days - it’s time I moved on to the next place. Thank you all for your care in these past few days. Until we meet again.”

She deliberately said this for those keeping an eye on her to hear, showing her intent to leave and a lack of desire to threaten any faction’s status, ensuring her safety.

Many people expressed reluctance and tried to persuade her to stay, but she shook her head, saying, ”These are my master’s rules. I can only see patients in one place for three days before moving on. Sorry.” She spoke with a Jianghu air, and with that, she folded her fist in her palm as a gesture.

The crowd didn’t press the matter. They all felt it was a pity, yet understood she couldn’t always be there providing free medical care for their town alone. Thus, they were resigned to the situation.

Seeing that it was time, Bai Ruozhu said to Wang Tuhu who was waiting at the side, ”Let’s go. Once the herbs are bought, Kankan’s bandage can be changed.”

Wang Tuhu quickly expressed his thanks and followed after her.

She went straight to the pharmacy and bought quite a few herbs. In the end, she paid nearly forty taels of silver. Wang Tuhu watched on, astounded, thinking that medical treatment really was expensive.

Once the three of them left the pharmacy, someone set their sights on Bai Ruozhu. However, seeing Wang Tuhu by her side, they didn’t act rashly.

Upon returning to the inn, Bai Ruozhu gave Wang Tuhu several herbs and asked him to borrow a stove from the kitchen to brew some medicine. Once done, he was to cool the medicine soup with cold water before bringing it up. Meanwhile, she took Kankan to her room to examine his wounds.

Kankan, with wide eyes watched Bai Ruozhu, asking, ”Doctor Zhuhua, they say you’re a disciple of a fairy. Is that true?”

Bai Ruozhu felt uncomfortable lying to a child. She had to rationalize to herself that since she was apprenticed to a modern ”grandpa” who was separated by several centuries and even millennia, he could be considered a fairy.

She nodded without saying much.

Kankan then asked, full of anticipation, ”Can I be your disciple then? I want to heal and save people, so that everyone will respect me.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but smile, revealing a set of pure white teeth, ”You’re already thinking of earning people’s respect at such a young age?”

Kankan earnestly nodded, ”And if I knew medical skills, perhaps my mother wouldn’t have died.” As he spoke, his gaze dimmed.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart clenched. This poor child. His mother had died while giving birth to him. How could he have possibly helped?

”If you genuinely want to learn medicine, you should go and find a doctor to study under. Don’t fear hard work. Learning medicine cannot be mastered in a day or two. You need to be dedicated,” Bai Ruozhu softly said.

Kankan nodded seriously, but soon, he felt drowsy and closed his eyes.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t afford to waste time. After anesthetizing Kankan, she carefully unwound the bandage on his wound. Since some scabs were stuck to the bandage, there was some pain when removing it. She immediately applied acupuncture to temporarily numb Kankan’s pain while she gently used alcohol to wipe it. After dissolving the scabs, she was then able to fully remove the bandage.

Kankan’s wound was healing very well, even better than what Bai Ruozhu had expected. On the one hand, she had used high-quality medicine, on the other hand, the child’s foundation was good, and the metabolism of new cells was also fast. The recovery was faster than most adults.

She carefully wiped off the herbs from earlier, thereafter applying some darker-appearing new herbal powder. Coupled with the dim candlelight in the room, even if Wang Tuhu saw the dressing change later, there wouldn’t be much he could distinguish.

Shortly after, Wang Tuhu came back with the medicine. He couldn’t help but curiously glance at Kankan’s wound. Although the wound was covered in medicinal powder and wasn’t clear, it wasn’t as horrifying as he’d feared. This greatly eased his anxiety.
