Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 422: Chapter 422: Is the Senior Brother the Son of the City Lord?

”Here comes Miss Bai. Come, let me introduce you. This is my eldest daughter-in-law, also the Lady of the City Lord.” Mrs. Meng was laughing very kindly. She beckoned Bai Ruozhu to come closer. Bai Ruozhu understood that this old lady wanted to touch her pet, Dengdeng, again.

She quickly paid respect to the old lady, saying, ”Greetings to the old lady.”

Then she turned to Mrs. Meng, also saluting, ”Greetings to Mrs. Meng.”

Mrs. Meng seemed to be a quite serious person, her face didn’t show much smile. She nodded slightly to Bai Ruozhu and said, ”I appreciate your help with the old lady’s toothache. Please tell Nanny Lu if you need anything.”

”Yes.” Bai Ruozhu guessed that she didn’t like others rambling, so she quickly agreed and then saw that Mrs. Meng was smiling at her. She reluctantly held Dengdeng and walked over.

At this point, Mrs. Meng got up and said, ”Mother, take care. I’m going to take care of the household affairs.”

The old lady didn’t care much about formalities, she waved and said, ”Off you go, tell my grandson Hong to visit his grandmother when he’s free!”

Mrs. Meng paid respect to the old lady again, ”I will remind him.”

Bai Ruozhu was secretly pondering. The ”Hong” mentioned by the old lady should be the son of Meng Liangshen. He should be of considerable age. If he were younger, he would have come to pay respects with his mother. He must be a young master with a distinctive character.

Once Mrs. Meng left, the atmosphere in the room became more relaxed. It seemed that all the maids and Nannies in the room let out a sigh of relief.

Bai Ruozhu took out the ointment and gave it to the old lady, saying, ”Old madam, apply the medicine immediately to avoid relapse.”

”Yes, yes, give me the medicine right away.” The old lady said.

Bai Ruozhu opened the medicine box and took out a thin bamboo stick with a polished head and a round end. She picked up a little ointment, and carefully put it into lady Meng’s mouth, applying it to the cavity in her decayed tooth.

Since the nerves in Mrs. Meng’s decayed tooth were exposed, applying the medicine had to be done very carefully. Even the slightest touch would cause severe pain.

”After applying the ointment, don’t eat or drink anything for half an hour, or else the ointment will be washed away and it won’t be effective.” Bai Ruozhu said, ”Last time I heard Nanny saying that the old lady had an ointment that was very effective. I wonder if there are any left for me to examine? Even the box that contained the ointment will do.”

Nanny Lu immediately said, ”I will bring the medicine box to Miss Bai.”

The old lady had her mouth slightly open, as though she couldn’t speak conveniently. Bai Ruozhu almost laughed. She managed to hold it back and told Mrs. Meng, ”The old madam can speak normally. Just try not to lick the ointment. If you accidentally lick it off, just apply more.”

Upon hearing this, the old lady immediately stopped acting like a stone statue. She laughed happily and said, ”Your ointment is very refreshing and comfortable! And you don’t have to stay still for a long time. It’s much better than the one I used to use.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed after she heard it, ”This ointment only has the effect of reducing inflammation and heat in the body. It needs to be used in combination with oral medicine. Only after filling the tooth can the use of medicine be completely stopped.”

While they were talking, Nanny Lu found the medicine box and let Bai Ruozhu examine it. Mrs. Meng looked at her expectantly, asking, ”Can you make this kind of medicine?”

Bai Ruozhu sniffed it and frowned.

”If the old lady is willing to trust me, don’t use this kind of ointment in the future.” She shook her head as she spoke. In this era, there are very few specialized dentists. Even dental diseases are not taken seriously, which is why such a thing could fool Mrs. Meng of the City Lord’s Residence.

Mrs. Meng looked surprised, ”Is there a problem with the ingredients?”

”This ointment is mostly for numbing. It’s like a local anesthetic. It can numb the nerves, skin, and flesh. Have you ever felt numbness in your tongue or cheeks, and found it difficult to move after using it for a while?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

The old lady nodded quickly, ”That’s exactly it.”

”While this can relieve pain, it’s only a temporary solution. If you always use it in your mouth, it may cause numbness all over your mouth and nose. Over time, it can cause facial paralysis and even affect your brain.” Bai Ruozhu continued.

The old lady and the Nannies and maids in the room were all startled. Nanny Lu looked annoyed, ”How can someone give such a dangerous thing to the old lady?”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t know what the problem was. After thinking for a while, she said, ”The person who gave it may know that this medicine can relieve pain. But this medicine is very rare and few people can use it for a long time. In general, after using it for wounds, there are always times when it’s not needed because the wounds heal. But toothache often recurs. The other party may not have thought that the old lady would use it so frequently.”

The stern expression on the old lady’s face gradually disappeared. She sighed and said, ”Toothache is not a disease, but when it hurts, it’s really unbearable. I might as well have this damned tooth pulled out.”

”That’s a quick fix, but if it causes the other teeth to loosen, or the adjacent teeth to fall out, it will be inconvenient for you to eat in the future.” Bai Ruozhu hurriedly said. It was not a good time for the old lady to have a tooth extraction now, because it could easily lead to other complications.

The old lady touched the side of her face where the decayed tooth was located, and said to Bai Ruozhu, ”I trust you. I won’t use that ointment recklessly in the future.”

Bai Ruozhu was very relieved to hear this. It’s always easier to treat a patient who trusts her.

Then, she talked to the old lady about oral hygiene. Everyone else in the room listened too, including the young maids, who took notes. Because as Bai Ruozhu said, teeth should be taken care of from a young age in order to avoid suffering when old.

While everyone was talking enthusiastically, suddenly, a page outside reported, ”Old lady, the eldest Young Master has come to see you.”

The old lady was initially sitting on the kang. Upon hearing this, she immediately intended to get up and go greet him. Nanny Lu hurriedly went to assist her, while Bai Ruozhu quietly retreated to one side.

Shortly, the eldest son, Meng Hanhong, walked in. Bai Ruozhu quickly glanced at him and was immediately entranced. She instantly lowered her head, afraid that her reaction would be noticed by others.

Wasn’t the eldest son the very same person she had just met who, according to Jiang Yichun, looked like a cat but was actually a fox? However, would the son of the Anxi Governor, Meng Liangshen, and the Lord of Beiyu City, need to work in such a dangerous department as a clerk? This was absolutely illogical!

Meng Hanhong came into the room and paid respects to the old lady, ”Grandmother, I heard you had another toothache. Are you feeling better now?”

Mrs. Meng loved this grandson very much. Otherwise, the grandmother wouldn’t have gotten off the bed to greet her grandson. Hearing that her grandson had come to visit her, she laughed so enthusiastically that the wrinkles around her eyes became deeper.

”I feel a lot better, thanks to the divine doctor your father found for me.” At this point, Mrs. Meng just remembered and hurriedly introduced to Meng Hanhong, ”This is the Divine Doctor Miss Bai.”

Meng Hanhong looked at Bai Ruozhu, showing a hint of admiration in his eyes. However, he did not seem surprised, as if he were meeting Bai Ruozhu for the first time.
