Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 419: Chapter 419: Dengdeng is a Little Money Freak

If she were in the modern world, Bai Ruozhu would suggest her to undergo root canal treatment, followed by filling the tooth. But in ancient times, with limited conditions available, she could only combine Chinese acupuncture to help the old lady relieve her pain initially.

”Alright, madam, close your mouth and relax. I’ll start the acupuncture to help with the pain,” Bai Ruozhu spoke softly, gently massaging the old lady’s cheeks, appearing as if she was not exerting much force.

Madam Meng closed her mouth and looked at Bai Ruozhu with a hint of surprise. She had merely been lightly touched, and already she didn’t feel as much pain!

In just the blink of an eye, Bai Ruozhu had taken her acupuncture needles and started the treatment. With each insertion, Madam Meng’s facial expressions seemed to gradually relax.

Seeing his mother no longer frowning, Meng Liangshen knew the treatment was effective, which further increased his respect for the Bai siblings.

Jiang Yichun watched them, secretly nodding. He knew how to treat toothache as well, but there’s no need to one-up his lover, right?

Madam Meng’s face showed a happy expression as she grinned, ”I feel much better, this miss really is a divine doctor.”

Only then did Bai Ruozhu pay respects to Madam Meng, ”Madam, I am Bai Ruozhu. The acupuncture treatment just now was only for pain relief. Its effect is temporary, but it doesn’t solve the root issue. If Madam does not want to be in pain anymore, further treatment as well as tooth filling needs to be carried out.”

”Mother, the toothpaste you use daily is also developed by Miss Bai,” Meng Liangshen said from the side.

Madam Meng, having heard this, took another good look at Bai Ruozhu and commented, ”Who would have thought someone your age would already possess such great medical skills. Truly a prodigy. As for my tooth, do whatever you think is best. Just make sure I don’t have to endure such pain again. It’s truly unbearable.”

Bai Ruozhu was pleased when Madam Meng showed she trusted her. If the patient did not trust her, there would be no point even if she had the solution.

She got paper and a pen from a maid in the room and wrote a prescription for Madam Meng, who was suffering from red and swollen gums due to an external pathogen. Her overall health needed to be taken care of as well.

Then, after some consideration, she added, ”By chance, I’ll be staying in Beiyu City for the next few days. I will prepare some ointment which you can apply on the affected teeth every day. Combining it with the medication will yield a good result.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Meng panicked, ”Are you not a Beiyu City resident? Do you plan on leaving again in a few days? If you leave, then what about my teeth?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh at the old lady’s expression, as if she was going to be abandoned. Indeed, they say the elderly are like children, and Madam Meng was certainly like one in this case.

”Madam, there is no need to worry, you will still need treatments in the coming days. By the time I move to Beiyu City, I should have found the dental filling materials. Once your teeth are no longer swollen and painful, we can perform the filling much more effectively,” Bail Ruozhu reassured her.

Upon hearing these words, Madam Meng seemed relieved, ”So you’re moving to Beiyu City, then hurry, do you have a place to stay?”

Before Bai Ruozhu could respond, Madam Meng directly addressed Meng Liangshen, ”Liangshen, make sure to show more support towards Doctor Bai. After all, she helped solve your mother’s biggest worry.”

Meng Liangshen thought to himself, ’even if you didn’t ask, mother, I would still be supportive of Miss Bai. Now, she is an important figure that even the Imperial Court values.’ Of course, this information was confidential, and he couldn’t tell his mother. However, his mother’s words were a good reminder. If Bai Ruozhu frequented the Meng Residence, then there would be an excuse for it.

”Mother, rest assured. Miss Bai’s brother is Xie Dun’s favorite pupil, I should have given them more support from the start,” said Meng Liangshen.

Upon hearing this, Madam Meng asked, ”Then when will the Xie Dun return? I miss having the dimsum made by that maid Hongxiu.”

Bai Ruozhu almost laughed out loud. It’s amusing how the old lady, who was in agonizing toothache just moments ago, was now craving for dimsum. She wanted to remind the old lady of some things, but decided not to interrupt for now. She would remind the nanny who was looking after Madam Meng later when she’s about to leave.

”Soon, it won’t be long,” answered Meng Liangshen hurriedly.

Having suffered the pain for the entire morning, Madam Meng began yawning once the pain was gone. Everyone took their leave, and Bai Ruozhu mentioned that she’d visit the next day to deliver the ointment to Madam Meng.

Overjoyed, Madam Meng reached into her jewelry box, pulled out an East Pearl necklace, and stuffed it into Bai Ruozhu’s hand.

”At my age, I can rightfully be called your grandmother. Take this necklace as a toy, and don’t you dare refuse.” As she said this, she pretended to scowl.

The East Pearls were round and full. Just a glance revealed their high value. Bai Ruozhu was a bit embarrassed, but seeing the seriousness on Madam Meng’s face, she could only bow in thanks and accept the East Pearl necklace.

At this moment, Little Dengdeng in Bai Zepei’s arms woke up; a perfect coincidence. He remained asleep while the old lady cried out in pain, and woke up as soon as rewards started to be given. If he isn’t a little money freak, what is he?

Noticing his mother wasn’t the one holding him, Dengdeng became upset and started to cry. This made Bai Zepei a bit embarrassed, as he, the second uncle, was being blatantly rejected.

Fearing that Dengdeng crying loudly would disturb the others, Bai Ruozhu quickly went forward, took him back, and whispered, ”Good boy, mom is here, don’t cry.”

Only then did Madam Meng notice the baby. Her eyes immediately brightened as she beckoned Bai Ruozhu, ”Is he your child? Bring him here for this old woman to see.”

Bai Ruozhu had no choice but to bring Dengdeng over to Madam Meng. Perhaps because he had seen a strange old lady, Dengdeng wasn’t crying anymore. He just stared at Madam Meng with his big, sparkling eyes, looking as adorable as ever.

The elderly are naturally fond of children. Consequently, Madam Meng was fully captivated by Dengdeng. She took one of his little chubby hands and tried to give him a kiss, which made Bai Ruozhu incredibly nervous.

Fortunately, the old lady simply wanted to show her affection and didn’t do anything too ”enthusiastic.” She let go of Dengdeng’s hand, and turned to her nanny, ”Give this child the new longevity lock we just got. There’s still plenty of time to get another one for Hongxiu’s child.”

Hearing that the present was originally intended for Yu Hongxiu, Bai Ruozhu immediately felt embarrassed. Plus, she had already accepted the East Pearl necklace, how could she accept another gift?

”Madam, I really can’t accept any more from you. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be right,” Bai Ruozhu quickly said.

”I am giving it to you because I want to, and I am giving it to this child because I want to. The child is cute, what does a small lock matter?” With that, she ignored Bai Ruozhu’s protests and, taking the longevity lock from the nanny, handed it directly to Dengdeng to play with.

A maid, standing nearby with a smile on her face, chimed in, ”I told you earlier, Madam, that you were too impatient. But it turns out your impatience has been fruitful; the gift has been put to good use.”

Dengdeng didn’t seem to be afraid of strangers and was flipping the lock around curiously in his hand. He soon began laughing.

”Look! The little boy is so happy!” said Madam Meng, overjoyed.
