The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 664: Chapter 664 Absolutely Cannot Laugh, Must Hold It In!_1

Killian Jaramillo sighed with relief upon hearing Carson Flores speak like this.

She didn’t mind revealing that Carson had saved her, as she felt tremendously grateful to him, but she didn’t want to bring him any trouble because of it.

Carson had saved her, but he didn’t take any credit. Instead, he casually spun the truth around, turning it from him saving her into her saving him.

This man is truly magnanimous!

”Sister Killian saved you?”

The look of wariness in Francisco Smith’s eyes eased slightly, and he smiled, ”Sister Killian is kind-hearted and often helps fellow disciples; it is indeed her style.”

Killian’s face stiffened slightly; why did Francisco’s words sound a bit sarcastic?

After all, she was the one being saved!

Killian looked at Carson worriedly, her eyes filled with a hint of remorse.

Carson indeed smiled naturally, ”Yeah, Miss Killian is indeed enthusiastic. Not only did she save me, but when I inquired about alchemy, she also kindly offered her advice.”

A look of pride crossed Francisco’s face as he said boastfully, ”Sister Killian is among the most outstanding alchemists of the younger generation in the Four Great Sects, no, the entire realm. Even many elder alchemists can’t compare to her!”

Carson replied with a smile, ”Indeed, she is truly admirable.”

Killian’s cheeks flushed slightly; in front of Carson, she had hoped to boast that among all the alchemists Carson could seek help from for alchemy, she was the best. However, coming from Francisco, the words seemed significantly distorted.

Killian hastily interjected, ”Carson, I’m not that amazing. But if you need any elixirs or help with alchemy, you can come to the Thousand Swords Sect to find me. As long as I have time, I can help.”

Francisco was taken aback, his expression a mix of surprise.

Killian was not so altruistic. Although she occasionally helped with alchemy, she certainly wasn’t the type to offer free aid to just anyone. On the contrary, her alchemy services were quite expensive.

After a moment’s thought, Francisco relaxed, perhaps because he had just praised her so highly. She said it just for the sake of keeping up appearances.

Didn’t you catch the underlying message in Killian’s words?

”As long as I have time...” isn’t the implication that if you come to me and I don’t want to help, then I just won’t have the time, being busy with other matters?

Of course, Francisco didn’t realise that Killian’s words could also be interpreted differently.

As long as you come to me, no matter what I’m busy with, I will definitely make time to help you.

Carson responded with a smile, ”Good, if I need help, I will surely trouble Miss Killian.”

Although Francisco felt there was likely nothing between Carson and Killian, he couldn’t help the instinctive wariness as he inquired about Carson’s background.

”Carson, right? My name is Francisco Smith, a disciple of the Crane Sect, and I am... good friends with Sister Killian.”

For a moment, Carson almost couldn’t keep from bursting into laughter.

Good friends?

Sister Killian?

You’re a highly esteemed individual; this is just too sycophantic.

It seems Killian has flatly rejected you, relegating you only to the position of calling her Sister Killian, let alone more intimate names like ’Killian’ or ’Su Su’.

From this title alone, it’s clear she doesn’t fancy you at all, granting you no room for wishful thinking, yet you still refuse to give up, clinging to the idea of ’good friends.’ You must have felt awkward even introducing yourself that way.

Don’t laugh!

Hold it in!

Carson controlled the emotions bubbling inside him; he knew very well that laughing would solidify him as an enemy.

After the pleasantries, Carson shifted the conversation to the matter of the rescue and looked around, ”Why don’t I see the person who called for help? Could it be that they sent out the distress signal and then left?”

Francisco took up the conversation, ”It’s unlikely. We got here pretty quickly. In such a short time, they shouldn’t have just left, right? Plus, we haven’t seen any signs of a fierce battle. Could someone be playing a joke?”

Killian frowned, ”Who would make a joke with a distress signal? Aren’t they afraid of severe punishment afterward?”

Carson looked up at the white-haired old man in the sky and asked in a low voice, ”Who is that?”

Killian answered, ”That’s Uncle Ishaan Roth from the Crane Sect, at the Mid-Nascent Soul stage.”

Francisco’s expression held a touch of pride, ”Uncle Roth is concerned about my safety, which is why he joined us. Seeing the distress signal, he came to check, but he didn’t expect to run into Sister Killian.”

Carson nodded, asking no more, his gaze sweeping around and then settling on a towering ancient tree in the distance.

The tree must be thousands of years old, with a trunk so thick that hundreds of people might not be able to encircle it. Numerous roots burrowed into the soil, with many exposed on the surface. The root system seemed to cover the entire valley.

The tall trunk of the colossal tree was at least a thousand meters high, its countless branches and lush leaves blocking out the sky and covering much of the vast valley.

On the tree’s trunk and branches grew numerous blood-red roots, entwined around the trunk or hanging in the air like thick crimson ropes. Dense and innumerable, they appeared unsettlingly ominous.

”What a huge tree!”

Carson murmured in awe, ”This tree must have lived for thousands of years; at this age, it could have become sentient, right?”
