Chapter 404: Chapter 251: Diagnosis Confirmed, Too Late! Removal of the Right Eyeball

Wu Ting was so young that Dr. Qian never imagined he would know a procedure like pericardiocentesis.

Dr. Qian wasn’t sure if the patient would even make it to the hospital.

Just then, the patient’s condition worsened. He suddenly lost consciousness, and his limbs began to convulse.

Dr. Qian called out to him a few times, but he was unresponsive.

”Old Xia, how much longer until we reach the hospital? The patient is fading fast! We need to perform a pericardiocentesis immediately, or I’m afraid he won’t make it.”

As he spoke, the patient’s breathing began to stop. His carotid pulse vanished, and his pupils dilated...

”Almost there, almost there! Five more minutes!”

As Dr. Qian grew frantic, Wu Ting began rummaging through the first-aid kit on the side.

Neither Dr. Qian nor the driver understood what he was doing.

Wu Ting found a sterile connecting tube, a sterile hemostat, a transparent dressing, sterile scissors, a disposable sterile drainage bag, and then a 5ml syringe.

Next, he pulled out a safety pin, injectable lidocaine, atropine...

Seeing this collection of items, Dr. Qian instantly understood.

”Director Wu, are you...?!”

”Given the patient’s condition, he won’t make it to the hospital if we don’t perform a pericardiocentesis right now. Dr. Qian, you keep applying pressure to control the bleeding. I’ll handle the pericardiocentesis!”

By the time he finished speaking, Wu Ting had already improvised a complete set of instruments for the procedure.

Dr. Qian was both astonished and deeply impressed watching Wu Ting so skillfully and swiftly assemble a full pericardiocentesis kit.

’At a critical moment like this, to calmly assemble a makeshift pericardiocentesis kit from the available materials... it’s truly incredible!’

’Dr. Qian knew how to perform a pericardiocentesis, but he always relied on the pre-packaged kits prepared by the hospital. Who could possibly improvise like this in such a critical situation, assembling a kit from a first-aid box in mere moments and even creatively finding substitutes for missing tools?’

’Does City First Hospital run constant pericardiocentesis drills? Otherwise, how could someone as young as Wu Ting be this proficient?’

But right now, the more skilled Wu Ting was, the higher the patient’s chances of survival.

”I’m leaving it in your hands, then.”

Dr. Qian resumed providing emergency care for the vascular injury.

Wu Ting began the pericardiocentesis.

Wu Ting carefully percussed the patient’s chest, located the border of dullness, and decisively selected a puncture site!

At the left sternal border, just below the xiphoid process, Wu Ting disinfected the skin. He skillfully clamped the rubber tubing on the puncture needle and began insertion at the chosen site!

This was an incredibly difficult blind pericardiocentesis, performed without any visual guide!

It was a technique dared only in the most dire emergencies. In a hospital, it would always be done with ultrasound guidance; otherwise, the risk of damaging surrounding organs was far too high.

Under normal circumstances, Dr. Qian would never have let Wu Ting take such a risk. But the situation was critical; they had no other choice.

Wu Ting advanced the needle with intense focus, relying entirely on tactile feedback to guide his hand, and precisely pierced the pericardial cavity.

Feeling the feedback of the heartbeat against the needle tip, Wu Ting withdrew it ever so slightly. His movements were incredibly delicate and masterful.

’Watching up close, Dr. Qian was floored. Wu Ting’s technique was absolutely textbook-perfect. The key was his economy of motion. There were no wasted movements; everything was executed in a single, precisely controlled step.’

’How on earth does this guy do it?’

’Dr. Qian had only ever seen such consummate skill from the most senior directors in emergency cardiac surgery.’

With Dr. Qian watching, Wu Ting attached the syringe to the rubber tube, released the clamp, and slowly began to aspirate the fluid.

Wu Ting was successful on the first try!

”Perfect!”

Dr. Qian couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration.

After aspirating a full syringe, and before detaching it, he meticulously clamped the rubber tube again with the hemostat.

’Dr. Qian marveled at Wu Ting’s meticulousness and calm technique. That small detail prevented air from entering the cavity.’

At the same time, Wu Ting unhurriedly recorded the volume of fluid aspirated and set aside a specimen to be sent for analysis later.

These steps were critical for subsequent treatment, showing just how thorough Wu Ting was.

Flawlessly, Wu Ting completed the pericardiocentesis and perfectly relieved the patient’s cardiac tamponade.

Once the aspiration was complete, he removed the needle, covered the site with sterile gauze, applied pressure, and secured it with medical tape.

Just as he finished, the ambulance pulled up to the entrance of the Emergency Department.

’Dr. Qian had no doubt in his mind. If it weren’t for Wu Ting’s quick thinking in assembling that kit and his swift, skilled intervention, the patient would have croaked before they even made it to the hospital!’

Thanks to Wu Ting’s timely intervention, the patient’s vital signs began to stabilize!

However, he wasn’t out of the woods yet. The even more perilous tasks of suturing the wound, performing effective CPR, and addressing other internal organ damage lay ahead.

「After the ambulance arrived at the hospital.」

The female professor had also arrived at the hospital. Her husband, meanwhile, had been taken into police custody.

News about the professor and the graduate student was quickly leaked by an insider onto the university’s online forum.

It turned out that the victim was the professor’s graduate student, who had been admitted to her research group by recommendation.

The professor had been very good to this student; they had known each other since his sophomore year.

According to a classmate, the student’s grades originally ranked him outside the top several hundred. It was only after he started a relationship with the professor that she gave him high marks, vaulting him into the top one hundred.

Furthermore, the professor had helped him participate in various competitions and win numerous awards, which is how he qualified for admission by recommendation in the first place.

Through the professor’s maneuvering, he was ultimately able to secure a spot in her research group.

The professor was 43 years old, while the student was 25.

The student was supposedly quite naive and genuinely in love with the professor, so he couldn’t help but post many photos of them together on social media.

Before the incident today, the student and professor had spent the entire morning out on the town, shopping, eating, and having fun. They even watched a movie together in a private ”couples’ screening room.”

The photo the student had posted showed his hand intertwined with the professor’s, with two movie tickets resting on a table.

The professor took excellent care of herself and had delicate, smooth-looking skin, which was why her younger lover was so infatuated with his ”older woman.”

She wasn’t just skilled, gentle, and worldly—she knew how to take the lead.

It was no wonder the young student was head over heels for her.

In fact, the two of them made no effort to hide their relationship within their research group at the university; it was an open secret among their peers.

No one expected the professor’s husband to find out, which led to today’s tragedy.

In response to these revelations, Jinggang University officials immediately launched an investigation to verify the facts and promised to issue a public statement.

「Emergency Department.」

Director Shen Guofeng, Director Zhou Bo from General Surgery, and Associate Director Shao Yuqiao from Cardiac Surgery had all rushed over immediately.

When they heard over the phone that the patient had a stab wound to the chest, severe hemorrhaging, and cardiac tamponade, all the directors were extremely worried.

After all, Dr. Qian was the only doctor in the ambulance. Just managing to control the bleeding with direct pressure would have been a feat in itself. With the added complication of cardiac tamponade, the patient’s death was almost a certainty.

Considering how much time had passed since the initial call, they weren’t sure if there would even be time to perform a Pericardiocentesis once the patient arrived at the hospital.
