Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 899: Chapter 873: Don’t Look Down on People Waiting at Home

Liumei answered the phone; it was her real mother calling.

”Liumei, have you eaten?”

”Not yet, why?”

”Your dad, he was diagnosed with something yesterday; he needs surgery this week. Are you coming back?”

”Ah!” Liumei was shocked.

”What is it? Is it serious?”

”A polyp, not serious. Just needs to be removed with high-frequency electrical coagulation. It’s not serious, but your dad thinks not to tell you, fearing it will delay your career outside. I thought since your business hasn’t opened yet, it’s not a big deal. If you come back, your dad will be happy and can focus on recovering, so I called you.”

Liumei felt her nose tingle at her mother’s cautious tone.

”Say no more, I’m coming back right away.”

”If Fugui’s work isn’t busy, can he also come? If he’s busy, then it’s fine.”

Liao Fugui has always been well-regarded in Liumei’s family. Her adoptive and biological parents like this guy. He’s solid, not wealthy but very reliable. For daily life, you need someone like him. Marrying a wealthy businessman isn’t as stable and happy as marrying a steady intellectual like Fugui.

He’s considered a semi-son-in-law.

”He’s... very busy.” Liumei glanced at Fugui’s leg but still turned it down.

”Liumei, what’s wrong with your dad?” Mrs. Yu, who was nearby and overheard, walked over to ask.

Liumei handed her the receiver and turned to pack her luggage. It was less packing and more like grabbing her wallet and ID to leave directly.

”Liumei, I’ll go with you,” Fugui said from his wheelchair.

”Don’t come; seeing you hurt will only make my parents worry more. I’ll go back alone.”

Liumei said and walked out. Qian signaled to Yu Minglang, and Yu Minglang quickly followed.

”I’ll drive you.”

The night was late; even for someone trained in martial arts, it wasn’t safe. A girl outside should always be cautious.

”Bro, no need, you have work tomorrow. I’ll drive myself back.”

”Enough talking. Let’s go.”

Yu Minglang followed her out directly. Qian originally wanted to follow too, but Xiaoqiang held her back.

With several hours of travel rushing ahead, she wouldn’t be of much help there.

Fugui watched Liumei leave, feeling anxious.

He understood Liumei’s character; if she didn’t want him to come, and if he did, she’d literally kick both him and the wheelchair back.

But why did it feel off?

Mrs. Yu, who had already hung up the phone, saw that only worried Fugui and Qian were left and spoke to comfort them.

”Fugui, don’t worry, I asked carefully, it’s really not serious. Liumei just went back to calm her dad down, don’t fret.”

Fugui felt unease he couldn’t describe. He always worried about Liumei, so he looked to Qian.

”Liumei’s been in a bad mood these days. I think it’s because of my injury. Now with her dad ill, I worry about her emotional control.” Fugui had studied Liumei’s character; she’s direct and can get emotional easily. This is a low point in her life; with things happening back-to-back, she is exhausted. Fugui doesn’t want to miss this moment.

”It’ll be alright. Liumei’s not a child; she should be fine. Don’t worry.”

Qian’s words didn’t comfort Fugui but made him more anxious.

Mrs. Yu cooked two simple dishes for dinner; the night was dark as ink. Everyone hadn’t eaten all day and was hungry.

Fugui couldn’t bring himself to eat, hurriedly took a bite, and wondered where Liumei was now, if she was close to home, or whether to call her.

Qian took the initiative to do the dishes while Mrs. Yu chatted with Fugui when his phone rang.

”Liumei! Where are you?” Fugui hurriedly picked up, anxiously asking.

”Liao Fugui, Liao Yunchang.”

Huh, why so formal? Fugui was stunned.

”I’ve thought it over carefully. We are not compatible. Let’s not meet for now.”

”What?” Was he hearing things?

”I said, let’s not meet for now! You can treat me as a backup while looking for someone better. Who knows when you’ll return!”

Liumei seemed emotionally out of control, and after speaking, she hung up.

Fugui called back, but the phone was off.

He was worried not because of her rambling nonsense, but because he could tell she was crying.

Qian had just finished washing the dishes and came out, only to hear Mrs. Yu’s anxious voice stopping him.

”Fugui! You can’t move your leg!”

Qian saw Fugui maneuvering his wheelchair towards the door.

”I have to go see her. No, I can’t rest easy!”

”What happened?” Qian, just done with the dishes, didn’t hear clearly.

”Something must’ve happened to Liumei. I have to go; I think her mood is out of control.” Fugui said anxiously.

If nothing was wrong, why would she suddenly quote, ’who knows when you’ll return’ and say temporarily not to meet?

Their relationship was so good, and nothing fundamental happened before. For her to say this now, surely something has happened.

After listening to the entire story, Qian frowned.

”Wait, let me call Xiaoqiang to find out what’s going on.”

By then, Yu Minglang had already parked the car. Liumei, with red eyes, rushed into the house, crying all the way.

Xiaoqiang was just about to report the situation to his Qian, but Qian’s call came first.

”What’s going on? What triggered her?” Qian asked bluntly.

”From the moment she got in the car, she was silent until her phone rang. I heard her say ’master,’ and then nothing. She silently listened and cried. Before I could ask what was wrong, she directly called Fugui.”

The whole thing happened suddenly, and Yu Minglang couldn’t stop her. Now Liumei is like gunpowder, ready to ignite at the slightest spark.

”Master... Damn!” Qian cursed under her breath.

That old superstition, her again!!!

”Why did her master tell Liumei to break up with Fugui?”

Though not explicitly said, the talk of ’who knows when you’ll return’ and ’looking for someone better’ shows reluctance to break up but feeling compelled to mention it, right?

Yu Minglang couldn’t understand why, when the whole family wished for Liumei’s relationship, someone would deliberately cause trouble.

”I don’t know the exact reason, but it’s probably that same old superstitious nonsense. Damn her!”

Qian was so angry she cursed.

”Her uncle is our dad, give dad a break...” Xiaoqiang was speechless; was his wife confused with anger?

”Wait for us. We’ll be right over.”

”Can you drive over all the way here?” Yu Minglang regretted not bringing Qian along in the first place, so now she had to go through the trouble.

”Don’t underestimate me. Wait for me!”
