Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 878: Chapter 852: He’s Gone, He’s Gone, He’s Gone

The host, who’s good at stirring emotions but not so great at hosting competitions, finally found a use for his skills, passionately stirring emotions with highs and lows.

”Just an hour before the competition began, there was a hostage situation in our city. The assailant was extremely agitated, and in the absence of a psychological expert on the scene, our contestant Chen Xiaoqian stepped forward!”

”...Not exactly a voluntary step up,” Qian muttered under her breath.

If she hadn’t seen Lin Ze Guang being caught up in it, she wouldn’t have intervened, especially since she was wearing red today with a swoosh...

”After successfully rescuing the hostages, the judges unanimously decided to award contestant Chen Xiaoqian additional points. She demonstrated what medical ethics are through her actions and showcased the spirit of a psychological counselor, giving the public a different insight into the profession, which fits the theme of today’s debate perfectly. Therefore, the judges awarded contestant Chen Xiaoqian a perfect score!”

A thunderous applause erupted on the scene, Daxia’s face turned red with excitement, clapping the loudest.

The lighting engineer somehow found Xiaoqian’s position and gave her a spotlight, while the little figure in her heart cheered even louder.

Oh no, don’t give a close-up of the red swoosh...

”Congratulations, Qian!” Daxia gave Xiaoqian an enthusiastic hug after coming off the stage.

”I should be thanking you, your performance today was excellent.”

Xiaoqian didn’t seem as ecstatic as the others about this sudden advancement opportunity, maintaining a calm demeanor.

The rest of her family was much more enthusiastic than she was.

”But I didn’t really help you... Instead, you helped me grow in this competition, Qian, I’ve figured it out.”

”Oh? Figured out what?”

”I’ve figured out what to do with Ye Daqian’s case.” Daxia gained a lot as well, finding breakthroughs while helping Xiaoqian.

”For cases like these, whether to save or not doesn’t really matter; it’s my decision. Whether I treat or not is my own business. Follow your heart without forcefully imposing moral obligations on yourself; medical ethics are about returning to your original intentions.”

Only now did Daxia understand why Xiaoqian told her that dealing with a domestic violence case would enlighten her on how to handle Ye Daqian’s case.

It turns out that medical ethics mean sticking to doing what you believe is right.

”That’s right. If you think this person can be saved, then save them. If your conscience isn’t clear about saving them, then don’t. Only a psychological counselor who sticks to their principles can help patients out of the darkness. If you yourself can’t find your own intentions, how can you help others?”

The focus is no longer on whether to save but on the mindset with which to save or refuse.

When treating illness, you should give your all. Once treatment is over and you’re out on the street, it’s just a relationship passing by. Xiaoqian influences Daxia with her actions.

”I previously couldn’t understand the connection between domestic violence and that issue. Now I understand. When helping a victim of domestic violence, we first help her regain her self-value. As doctors, we do the same. There’s also an implicit meaning—you want to tell me not to let external voices sway me, to stick to what I think is right, much like not questioning a victim of domestic violence right away why they’re not divorcing.”

Xiaoqian nodded, indeed.

Those with heart disease are like people in the dark; those standing in the sunlight don’t understand the pain of those in the dark. The world is full of those self-righteous ones.

Standing on the sidelines, pointing fingers and morally judging everyone, spouting all sorts of audacious words.

You’re a doctor; you should do this and that. Exhaust yourself at your post for praise; that’s what you’re supposed to do. This person may be a murderer, but you have to treat them because you’re a doctor.

You get abused but still don’t divorce; are you foolish?

How big a deal is it to not get over it; all mental illnesses stem from being too petty...

In Xiaoqian’s eyes, out of five people on the bridge, at least two could be doused with water and be that self-righteous type.

Daxia understood long ago never to critique others because there’s no identical life experience, and no pain can be truly empathized with. Even two seemingly similar events will result in different reactions due to personal character and upbringing environment.

The self-righteous are best at speaking without caring for the pain of their back.

”What I wanted you to understand is exactly this. Your long-term empathy is your strength but also your weakness. If you can’t rationally ignore external distracting voices if you can’t detach emotionally after treatment, then over time, accumulating other people’s pain bit by bit will make you miserable. If you fall, what about your patients? Your family?”

Prune away the excess branches, leaving only a sturdy trunk to grow upwards. Preserving your original intent equates to helping countless patients.

As for those external self-righteous who think they’re omniscient and critique freely, let them try to save the world with their words in their imagined virtual reality.

Xiaoqian was feeling gratified about Daxia’s growth when her phone rang with an unfamiliar number.

”Is this Chen Xiaoqian?”

”Who are you...?”

”Don’t ask who I am. Be careful, someone might deliberately give you low scores in tomorrow’s contest.”

With that, the call ended.

The voice was deliberately lowered, but Xiaoqian found it somewhat familiar.

Who could it be... Oh! It’s her!

Xiaoqian remembered; it’s a voice she had heard throughout her three years of high school.

It was the homeroom teacher!

She gave Qio Yu Xuan a mocking smile and shook her phone, ”Having a soft heart sometimes brings unexpected surprises, doesn’t it?”

Hahaha! The little figure inside her clapped exuberantly, and Xiaoqian felt triumphant about winning back a point.

Qio Yu Xuan kept watching Xiaoqian and others leave, while Aka ran over, sweating profusely.

”Boss! You’re too shameless! You came to watch Qian’s competition yourself but sent me on an errand!”

She arrived late, missing Qian’s extraordinary performance. After sneakily enquiring, she heard Chen Xiaoqian was the star of today’s event.

It was a pity she missed it; Aka felt it was a huge loss.

”But I’m still a bit worried. What about Qian’s competition tomorrow? Will those people let her go? I’m so nervous; you mustn’t send me away tomorrow! I want to stay and watch our great Qian! We should grab a front-row seat together tomorrow; I’m sure it’s going to be spectacular!”

Aka spoke energetically, both nervous and a bit excited.

Worried Qian would suffer yet having a hunch Qian wouldn’t let them succeed.

”Just you.”

”What?”

”Tomorrow, you come alone; I’ll save you a spot.”

”Boss, aren’t you watching? It’s such an important competition, and you’re skipping it? Didn’t you say before that Qian’s third match would be the most exciting and crucial? You even anticipated how she’d crush her opponents. Why aren’t you watching? What are you going to do?”

”Book me a flight back; I’m leaving.”

Aka turned into slanted eyes.

The battle is at the gates, and the boss wants to leave?

”But didn’t you—”

”It’s unnecessary to watch; she’s won.”
