Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 868: Chapter 842: Second Brother Thinks She’s Outstanding (Thanks to kateliu for the Heshibi + more)

Mrs. Yu still thought Qian would use all sorts of excuses to refuse. In fact, when Mrs. Yu brought up having kids, it wasn’t because she expected to have a granddaughter right away; she just wanted to hint at Qian a bit. Who would have guessed Qian would be so straightforward and say exactly what she wanted to hear?

”Oh, good, that’s good. Leave the matter of hiring a nanny to me. I’ll start picking one for you right now. Actually, by that time, I might have retired, so I can help too, haha, this is great.”

Mrs. Yu repeated ”good” several times, her joy evident.

Xiaoqiang still wore a dumbfounded expression until Qian mischievously tossed the chewed bones into his bowl, smiling as she asked him,

”What, you weren’t ready to be a dad yet? Didn’t want to have kids so early?”

”Yes, yes, yes! I want!” Yu Minglang said ”want” several times, letting out a silly laugh. To hide his happiness inside, he casually put the bones she had passed on into his mouth.

It was no surprise he cracked his teeth.

Dayi saw how happy her mother-in-law was and laughed along.

Actually, she already knew that Qian wanted a baby. The last time Qian went to the bookstore, she had bought a lot of books about preparing for pregnancy.

Because of Qian’s surprise revelation, Mrs. Yu and Xiaoqiang remained highly enthusiastic, especially Xiaoqiang, who happily volunteered to wash the dishes after dinner and even hummed a tune.

On the way home, Dayi held the already asleep Panpan, looked at her brother-in-law’s profile as he drove, hesitated, and asked,

”Do you like kids?”

”Panpan?” Her brother thought she was asking about Panpan.

Dayi shook her head, ”What I mean is, Minglang seems really happy today, so do you—”

”Don’t want them, too much trouble.”

Her brother decisively refused, glancing sideways, ”Having Panpan is enough. If mom says anything else to you, just let her talk to me.”

Dayi was different from Qian. Although Qian had taken two years off, her professional skills were well-recognized, and having kids wouldn’t be too tough for her. But Dayi was still in school and had to take care of Panpan daily. Her brother wanted to find a nanny out of concern for her, but the frugal Dayi was reluctant to let him. She was always the one managing home affairs.

If they had a child now, Dayi would surely struggle a lot, and her brother didn’t want to put her through that.

But his response directly made Dayi misunderstand that her brother didn’t like kids, leading to a moment of silence on her part before she dropped the subject.

”Are you taking the stage tomorrow too?” her brother asked her.

”Yes, I’m Qian’s assistant. When she is answering questions, I need to prepare the materials and assist Qian as the secondary debater. I’m a bit nervous... Big Brother, do you think I can do it?”

Dayi heard that the assistants for the debate tomorrow were either experienced workers or Ph.D. holders. If Qian was the least qualified and lowest-educated participant, then Dayi was the least qualified and lowest-educated assistant.

”You can do it.” Her brother said and then gave her a deep look, ”I think you’re very competent.”

Dayi blushed immediately.

Even though they’d been together for years, her heart would still race upon hearing his praise.

”Just perform normally, no pressure.”

The unspoken next sentence from her brother was: after all, this is Yu Laomao’s wife’s competition...

Dayi nodded seriously, ”For Qian, I must do my best.”

No one expected Dayi’s words to come true. In Qian’s second round, she did remarkably, thanks to Dayi.

In the evening, Xiaoqiang hugged Qian while sitting at the bay window watching the moon—well, actually, the clouds covered the moon tonight, so there was none, but the two still snuggled up close.

Mrs. Yu stayed over tonight. The old lady was highly excited by Qian’s words and even had a glass of fruit wine out of joy. A bit tipsy, she stayed in Qian’s pink guest room.

”Qian, won’t your coursework be a problem next year? Will it be too exhausting?” Yu Minglang, having calmed down, started thinking about the practical issues.

His dear Qian was still a student. Many have had kids while pursuing their Ph.D.s, but would it be too tiring for her? If having a baby would make her exhausted, he’d rather wait a bit longer.

”Dayi, the full-time housewife, never says she’s tired, and I don’t cook or anything. How tiring can it be?”

Qian genuinely felt too embarrassed to act pampered.

Compared to others, her days already resembled those of a wealthy lady.

The housekeeper would soon be in place, and she wouldn’t need to handle cooking or laundry. Xiaoqiang was very active at home too. Qian was confident that the little schoolwork wouldn’t be a problem for her. Although having a baby and raising a child would indeed be tiring, compared to a typical housewife, Qian felt she already had it much easier.

”I feel that, in my mind, you should...” Yu Minglang paused.

Showing an expression of wanting to say something but hesitating to speak.

Qian was in a good mood today, and seeing him act so hesitantly made her feel amused.

”Feel free to speak. I pardon you in advance.”

”I feel you should be the type carrying an expensive designer bag instead of a woven laborer’s sack, all dressed up and shiny, and on weekends, you’d take a dog to the salon and chat with a group of women, bragging about who knows what. You suddenly talking about having kids takes some getting used to.”

Yu Minglang sincerely felt that his wife had the air of a natural-born wealthy lady. So when the wealthy lady mentioned putting having kids into her daily agenda, both Yu Minglang and Mrs. Yu were particularly delighted, feeling they were scoring a particularly good deal.

”Wealthy ladies don’t have kids? Also, I don’t like keeping dogs, and who told you that having kids conflicts with enjoying life or carrying a laborer’s... Hey, that’s an LV bag. You’ve got me sidetracked. What I mean is, enjoying life doesn’t conflict with fulfilling my duty as a mother.”

With their financial condition so good, saying she didn’t want a baby felt a bit pretentious.

Qian watched Mrs. Yu’s eagerness and thought of her own mom, who was deeply influenced by traditional views despite being in her menopause. She wasn’t worried at all about who would take care of the child if she had to go out and work after the baby was born.

Maybe the two grandmas would even argue over who would take care of the kid.

Of course, Qian decided that she would try to be present for her baby as much as possible during the crucial first two years, making up for the companionship she owed her child in her previous life.

”Thank you, Qian,” Yu Minglang was particularly moved, burying his face into Qian’s shoulder, feeling especially blessed.

”Silly, why are you thanking me?” Qian thought, could it be that she’s been too harsh on him normally so that being slightly nicer to him moved Xiaoqiang this much?

As for Mr. Qio, Qian didn’t give him a second thought.

She had no intention of becoming Mr. Qio’s disciple, nor had she considered where to study next year. Her mind was entirely focused on staying in Lishi, living lovely little days with Xiaoqiang, and having a baby, feeling utterly happy.

But plans never keep up with change. No one could predict what would happen later, bringing so many difficulties to Qian’s plan. But that’s a story for another time.

The next day, Yu Minglang went to the military early, a bit regretful for not being able to accompany his wife to her competition, but nothing could be done about his duties.

He could only put effort into breakfast preparation.

When Qian got up and saw the breakfast on the table, she was speechless, but Mrs. Yu, who had just gotten up, was amused.
