Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1728: Chapter 1723: Bitter Fruit (17)

”Interesting point of view...”

It seemed that because Fu Qian’s proposal was too constructive, Hilary’s tone softened a bit, even pulling down her veil.

However, regardless of how things had changed, the eyes, brimming with countless emotions, and the shiny knee of the statue next to her highlighted the difference from before.

”Based on your description, I can think of a person named Sara, though I can’t imagine why she’d be wearing a wedding dress.”

”Also, if she is still around, her residence is quite far... you should avoid getting lost on the way.”

Hilary gestured towards the seamless darkness outside, casually providing an address.

”Thank you.”

Fu Qian politely expressed his gratitude, somewhat restoring his image as an outsider and swiftly took his leave under Hilary’s watchful gaze.

...

The distance was indeed somewhat extensive, but unfortunately—

The darkness continued to fall behind him, while Hilary’s described location was already in plain sight.

Despite there being no light emitting, Fu Qian could distinctly confirm that one of the rooms in the building in front of him had a live presence quietly nestled within the shadows.

It certainly seemed like he hadn’t found the wrong place.

But why it was said to be unfortunate—Fu Qian glanced back one last time before heading upstairs.

He had traversed nearly half of the town, yet the legendary unspeakable ”it” never showed any trace.

True, he wasn’t in a hurry to seek out that terrifying figure, but he wouldn’t mind an encounter along the way.

Unfortunately, it seemed the entity had a busy schedule or perhaps his outsider status wasn’t well-received?

Judging by the current conditions, locals clearly held some special significance here.

Knock, knock!

Regret did not delay Fu Qian’s actions; the next moment he was already on the second floor, knocking on a door painted deep green.

This area belonged to the outskirts of the town, with not only the layout being a bit more chaotic, but even the buildings being slightly shorter.

From the arrangement, Miss Bride Sara’s residence seemed relatively spacious within, though there was graffiti and dirt on the door that wouldn’t clean off.

She surprisingly possessed a few traits reminiscent of a Dream, being the only one not to light up in the darkness all along the way.

Seemed not only to be unafraid, but perhaps even enjoying this atmosphere.

Absolutely, just to this extent.

The moment the knocking sounded, a screeching sound of friction came from within the door.

And without needing to open the door, Fu Qian could clearly understand that the person he was searching for was holding her breath and staring this way after nearly falling over.

...

Knock, knock!

On this desolate soil and faith-thwarting ruins, in the suddenly descending night when someone unexpectedly knocked, even considering ”it,” the unspeakable tales passed around, the fright was evidently not trivial.

With this in mind, Fu Qian gave an extra two seconds for the other party to mentally adjust before knocking again.

”Who—”

”Outsider.”

The question that the other party had painstakingly formulated was answered in an instant.

”...I don’t know any outsiders, what do you want with me?”

It was clear that Fu Qian speaking coherently reassured the person inside.

Though compared to Hilary, she was clearly less welcoming.

”If you don’t open it, the door will be kicked down.”

Fortunately, Fu Qian was quite adept at handling such a situation.

Crack!

By instantly making a promise, he made the person inside realize the true danger of human nature, and soon footsteps approached, eventually pulling the door open from within.

Indeed, there was no lighting equipment, but aided by the streak of impure darkness coming from the window, it was easy to discern that the person behind the door, long hair tied up, wearing a white long dress, was indeed Miss Bride of the church quartet.

Yet this time, her exposed neck and back didn’t have those fine scars, replaced instead by pearly skin dotted with red specks and ulcers.

”Hello, Ms. Sara.”

Greeting her, Fu Qian didn’t rush in but instead lifted the doll from Hilary again to show.

...

Bang!

Unexpectedly, the person inside didn’t utter a sound while retreating at a much quicker pace than when she had come, amidst the chaos sowed.

But there was no doubt that she wasn’t trying to escape.

Soon, a flame flickered to life, weak but instantly melting away the surrounding shadows.

”That is... Hilary?”

Gripping the lampshade tightly, Ms. Sara immediately narrowed her eyes at Fu Qian’s unfamiliar face, yet her gaze instinctively landed on his hand.

Hilary’s appearance seemed quite classic; she recognized it after only a moment’s hesitation.

”Yes.”

An item familiar to both parties can always bridge distances, whether alive or not.

Casually admitting Sara’s guess, Fu Qian finally stepped inside with the doll, even turning to close the door behind him.

”You came from Hilary? She told you my address?”

Continuously watching Fu Qian’s every move, though the doll appeared eerie, the potential for communication instinctively made Sara relax.

While questioning, she even moved aside to right a lounger, leaning her entire form against it.

Clearly she had been maintaining the same posture in the dark earlier.

”I don’t know what she told you, but I usually don’t work at home.”

Assuming that unseemly position and without requiring any further prompting from Fu Qian, Sara’s tone began evolving towards the demeanor witnessed in the therapeutic Dream, even naturally adopting the Fallen essence of Dark Hilary.

And though she wore a bride’s dress, Fu Qian didn’t find anything incongruous.

The marks on her shoulders and back undoubtedly held some industry-specific significance.

So understanding her statement of ”not working at home” was completely uncomplicated.

”Why are you wearing this outfit?”

Unfortunately, Fu Qian wasn’t interested in sharing extensive emotional journeys.

Placing the doll aside, he exaggeratedly went straight to the point.

”Why ask this?”

And the effect was fairly notable, with Sara exhibiting a touch of world-weathered emotion, couldn’t help but sit up a little straighter at that moment.

”Because Hilary said, she can’t think of a reason for you wearing that outfit.”

Fu Qian’s answer remained direct.

And evidently, it brought considerable resonance.

”Because... the child needs a father.”

After a moment of contemplation, Sara’s facial features and even her entire body swiftly shifted to a dreamy posture, even gently tilting her head and cradling her lower abdomen.

”The child inside...”

And accompanying the trance-like soliloquy, her not-so-prominent belly unexpectedly moved slightly.
