Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1726: Chapter 1721: Bitter Fruit (15)

”What are you doing!”

Scarlet scattered, black veil fluttered, and in that moment, a shocked and angry shout came through.

The head, splattered on the ground in a spray-like manner, certainly didn’t have this function, as Hilary, who was hastily distancing herself, was still complete in every way.

Fu Qian’s response was neither to reply nor to pursue, merely putting away the Clear Dream Ring casually.

That’s right, the scene of the head exploding just occurred in a dream and had already ended by this point.

The atmosphere setting is always a systematic project.

After two consecutive actions of faith questioning and death substitution, the focus naturally shifts to observing Hilary’s reaction.

But if the effect doesn’t meet expectations, the subsequent increase in strength can always be perfectly connected.

For example, utilizing his ”strange face” and ”coming from the night” characteristics, creating psychological suggestions to the opponent that he is indeed that ”it.”

Of course, none of us got scared easily.

Especially since the person in front of us, being able to uphold a failing belief regardless of seeming weak, must have some exceptional aspects.

So Fu Qian ultimately opened the available Clear Dream Ring, using a splendid headshot to elevate the atmosphere to its peak.

Speaking of which, this move could actually be used against Dorian over in the clinic.

However, considering his apparent knowledge regarding dreams, the effect might be discounted, so Fu Qian didn’t rush to expose it.

And at this moment, he believed, with continuous assistance, Miss Hilary should be able to maximize her potential in her quest-seeking action.

”What were you doing just now?”

The originally neatly arranged tables and chairs were knocked over amid a frantic search for survival.

Thankfully, opposite this, Hilary’s emotional adjustment speed was quite swift.

”An illusion? You’re misleading me!”

Noticing Fu Qian wasn’t pursuing, she quickly steadied herself after touching her still-intact head, not waiting for Fu Qian to speak and questioning herself immediately.

”Are you deliberately making me think you’re that thing in the darkness?”

The previous assessment was correct; she wasn’t merely a simpleminded fanatic, her mind spun quickly.

”But why would you do this? Even if the matter with the doll is true, wouldn’t killing me suffice?”

”If it’s purely for the sick thrill, I must say you’re the most malicious outsider I’ve encountered.”

Regaining composure, the ethereal aura of Hilary as clergy was clearly depleted, leaving her more human-like.

”Putting in so much effort just to do such meaningless things?”

”Who said it’s meaningless?”

However, facing the question, Fu Qian naturally felt no shame, even shaking his head earnestly.

”Hasn’t your speech speed increased?”

...

”Of course, I also noticed a small issue.”

As Hilary was lost for words, Fu Qian hadn’t finished, raising his hand to point beside him.

”I’ve met many people with faith, some devout, some self-proclaimed, and some revered by others... And I’ve heard of your steadfast feats, undoubtedly categorized as the first type, but—”

Fu Qian first acknowledged the other’s faith value, but a twist was inevitable.

”Facing the threat in the darkness, those I mentioned, even those seemingly unworthy of categorization among the three types, still know to seek refuge under the Deity’s feet in dreams.”

”Yet you—I didn’t miss a single action from you, and even including after your narrow escape, you never glanced over there... In my view, this behavior seems a bit inconsistent with your character setting; could you clarify my confusion?”

With the statement completed, Fu Qian even sat back down, conveniently picking up and setting the doll upright that had fallen to the ground earlier.

This wasn’t a mere freedom of conscience; the most prominent label on Hilary was undoubtedly the most devout of Akons.

And what Fu Qian had always been pondering was how to target this point.

...

The ongoing atmosphere building, with the ultimate shock, is ideally to scare the mission out, but another significant meaning lies in testing the quality of Hilary’s faith.

From the fruitful journey thus far, the situation in this place seems rather simple.

Faith in decline, apostate congregations, steadfast Saints.

And that ”it” in the darkness, undoubtedly stands as a stark anomaly, seemingly being the next target for someone like me who has no clues about the task.

Clear, but as someone who just utilized a conspiracy theory to get away, having sorted this line of thought, Fu Qian thought reversely once again—

If this place wasn’t so simple after all?

Then where is it most likely to be evident and in whose presence?

The answer seems to still be Hilary.

Being at the core of faith, and as the most distinct figure, extreme case detection is relatively easier.

And this lady, indeed seems not to have betrayed this intention.

”Ha... hehehe...”

After a round of analysis, by the third breath, the laugh brought out by Hilary carried distinctly unprecedented elements.

And simultaneously, seemingly to rebut Fu Qian’s statement, she not only gazed straight at Lord Akons’ statue but also directly moved forward, nearly touching its toes before stopping.

And as she bent her body, seemingly about to bow down to worship, she performed a shocking action.

The veil slowly lifted upward, yet she didn’t remove it, covering her eyes instead.

And the pale lips revealed beneath, slightly parted, releasing a soft, comparatively redder tongue that stretched out to touch the toes before her.

Then it went all the way up, licking the exposed calf.

It’s truly an ambiguous scene, but if a Saint does such a thing to her faith object, then it’s even more ambiguous.

The blasphemy inherent is truly provocative of infinite imagination.

”Statues, emblems, honored names... These never represent Him, even tantamount to a crude blasphemy caused by our foolishness...”

And with her tongue finally retracting, Hilary’s voice was laced with an eerie laugh.

”He has long endured all of this in His infinite tolerance, but we have failed to repent, abandonment is really too natural...”

”These things never represented anything, you agree, don’t you?”

[Containment condition achieved, ensuring there’s a native survivor of Akons, prevents the growth of Bitter Fruit]

So this place isn’t actually maintained by a Saint but rather has fallen personnel crazier than the apostates outside?

Hilary’s revealing stance and declaration are undoubtedly comprehensible, yet amidst Fu Qian’s sighs, his focus remained on the prompt sounding in his ear.

Finally, it arrived.
