Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 124: Heading to Jiangcheng! Three First-Tiers!

In the rented business car, Lin Yu sat in the passenger seat, looking at the five carefully selected members of the Zheng City Branch of the Marauders filling the remaining seats. He nodded in satisfaction.

Although renting a business car was expensive, it wasnʼt his own money being spent, so Lin Yu didnʼt feel any heartache.

It had to be said that a single man who bought an unfinished development zone would indeed have some savings.

After successfully impersonating Heavenly Artisan, Lin Yu had conveniently taken his inheritance too.

It was about a hundred thousand in savings - the facial recognition program tied to mobile banking obviously couldnʼt recognize the changes from [False Face].

Lin Yu felt this was what he deserved.

Of course, more valuable than the hundred thousand savings were the [Tools] dropped by Heavenly Artisan!

The Death Game was one where players dropped equipment after dying in reality.

Based on the total equipment the deceased possessed, about twenty percent of their tools would drop - [Consumable Tools] might drop but werenʼt counted in this calculation.

This was exactly why the Marauders encouraged members to kill other players in reality, while Order strictly prohibited it.
Because the rewards for killing other players in reality were truly substantial.

Take Lin Yu for example - he had just inherited three tools from Heavenly Artisan.

[Multi-function Screwdriver: As the name suggests, it has all the functions a screwdriver should have. It can also serve as a backscratcher, ear pick, nail clipper and microphone.]

[BBE-300: Created by ”The Creator”, this is a reusable self-destruct robot with a follow function.]

[White Safety Helmet: Protects your head, significantly reducing blunt force damage while greatly decreasing mechanical failure rates when operating machinery while worn.]

Aside from the [Multi-function Screwdriver] which was rather questionable, both [BBE-300] and [White Safety Helmet] were quite powerful.

Lin Yu couldnʼt help but sigh in relief that he had managed a surprise attack and quick resolution - a prepared mind against an unprepared one.

Heavenly Artisan, having joined a major organization and experienced over a dozen instances, had deep reserves. In a fair fight, Lin Yu would have had a hard time gaining advantage.

Just that self-destruct robot alone would have given him serious trouble.

And these were only about one-fifth of Heavenly Artisanʼs tool reserves - he likely possessed around ten tools in total.

This was probably the remaining number after selling off some outdated ones.

Of course, while impersonating Heavenly Artisan, Lin Yu could actually use more tools than just these three.

He could also use Heavenly Artisanʼs [Class Tool · Tools].

And...

There was also Heavenly Artisanʼs most important frontal combat tool - the [Bone Crusher].

Lin Yu was quite certain that hammer should still be in Li Nianʼs hands.

This was also the purpose of this trip.

He looked at the other six Marauders, cleared his throat and spoke:

”Although youʼre all here for the money, Iʼm extremely grateful youʼre willing to take my payment.”

”After all, this trip will likely mean crossing swords with that ʼMaster Thiefʼ...”

”And itʼs not just the Master Thief from the Free Alliance - that bastard who hired a detective to find my hideout, injured me and called Order is also from Jiangcheng according to my investigation. I absolutely wonʼt let him off.”

Lin Yu put on a gnashing-teeth expression as he spoke.

”That guyʼs ID is ʼMay Mayʼ, profession is ʼDoctorʼ, and also a ʼFirst-Tierʼ.”

When assigning the mission earlier, Lin Yu had already explained what needed to be done.

Go to Jiangcheng, try to kill that Doctor who attacked him and called Order.

And put pressure on ʼA Nianʼ who was also in Jiangcheng.

Now with added emotion, Lin Yuʼs emphasis undoubtedly deepened everyoneʼs impression.

Almond, who was driving, spoke up:

”Hmm... If that Doctor is only First-Tier, I wouldnʼt worry. After all, counting me, Red Fuji and yourself, we already have three First-Tiers on this trip.”

Red Fuji was a short-haired man sitting behind Almond, dressed in a very flashy style with lots of metal decorations on his clothes and wearing extremely thick boots.

He was another First-Tier expert from the Marauders besides Almond - he happened to be in the underground rest area at the time.

He seemed acquainted with Heavenly Artisan, directly and readily accepting the invitation without much self-introduction.

Lin Yu had quietly used the Maraudersʼ app and forum to cross-reference and find some basic information about him.

Red Fujiʼs profession was ʼMusicianʼ, a typical ʼSkill Typeʼ, with the ability to play a pre-prepared 30-second audio clip.

The cooldown was short - only one hour in instances, extended to two hours in reality.

On the forum, Red Fuji had a 7500-point bounty posted by Order - slightly less than Heavenly Artisanʼs.

After Almond finished speaking, Red Fuji proudly added:

”From what you said, that guy should be a lone ʼbounty hunterʼ without any organizational backing.”

”The Order members were called by our Zheng Cityʼs Furbollo.”

”Two against one this time - weʼll definitely help you take him down. I donʼt want your money then, just let me pick two tools from what he drops!”

Lin Yu nodded at Red Fujiʼs words: ”Exactly, with you here Red Fuji, I feel much more assured.”

”Hey hey, you two arenʼt counting me in?”

”Am I not First-Tier? Huh? Am I not First-Tier?”

Almond complained loudly.

The remaining three in the back seats hadnʼt been promoted yet, but those who came for the money all seemed to be acquaintances of Heavenly Artisan, probably from the same circle, speaking quite casually.

One young woman jokingly teased: ”Sister Almond, without you, we couldnʼt even get to Jiangcheng!”

”Youʼre actually crucial!”

Almond muttered: ”Fine! Everyone looks down on me, huh?”

Among ordinary professions, those directly enhancing combat ability were actually few.

ʼSoldierʼ, ʼKillerʼ, ʼEnforcerʼ etc...

But most professions, upon reaching First-Tier, could provide some frontal combat abilities through their two advancement paths that synergized with original capabilities.

The ʼDriverʼsʼ original ability was ”Information Type” - obtaining a real-time ”route map” in their mind marking potential dangers along the path.

The two advancement directions were [Accelerator] and [Brake].

The former was a ”component” that could be installed on any object or [Tool], temporarily turning it into a drivable vehicle.

For example, attaching it to a roadside stone post would make the thing sprout two wheels.

The [Brake] could stop a moving objectʼs momentum.

Both abilities could serve some purpose in combat too.

So the reason Almond wasnʼt good at frontal combat was simple.

”Then how about Red Fuji and I support you this time, and you take on that Doctor?”

Lin Yu looked at Almond with a smile.

Almond shrank her shoulders.

”Better not... I... really donʼt like seeing blood.”

Despite having joined the Marauders.

Almond was an out-and-out ”coward”.

Even more cowardly than Furbollo.
